NEWSFLASH: KANSAS CITY CONVENTION HOTEL PICKED ONE OF THE WORST MOMENTS IN AMERICAN ECONOMIC HISTORY FOR GRAND OPENING!!!
This plan was doomed from the outset but taxpayers financing this monstrosity was always a slap in the face to voters given the clandestine and sleazy way it was pushed forward without a vote and betwixt council terms.
Here's a quick look at the future for the big convention hotel industry:
UST: About 80% of hotel rooms in the US are empty amid the coronavirus pandemic, new data says
CNBC: Empty hotels ‘keep the lights on’ by converting into coronavirus quarantines, emergency housing for first responders
Curbed: Hotels should be used to house the homeless: advocates
Here in KCMO we're keeping some hobos at a local flop house whilst the Convention Hotel sits EMPTY and might be put to better use during this crisis.
Developing . . .
It will be a great Trump revival. Just watch.
ReplyDeleteOn TV.
From Home.
While they extend the quarantine.
It should never open.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a boondoggle!
ReplyDeleteBurke and Sly hotel will never achieve profitability.
ReplyDeleteLike the Vista, it will fail.
And take how many millions of taxpayer dollars with it, or will we have to give them $15 million a year to stay open like the power and light district???
ReplyDeletethat dump will be 80% empty most the time even after it opens. Kansas City did not need this huge tax supported white elephant.
ReplyDeleteMonumentum, all the way down to hell.
^^You're really boring. Maybe try to reconnect with your family? Bore them instead of us. Please!
ReplyDelete^^ You're really an idiot. Maybe try to reconnect with your family? Bore them instead of us. Please!

ReplyDeleteWorst timing?
The guy who tore down Mission Mall just before the economy collapsed and who still, to this day, hasn't been able to rebuild.
Oh, yeah.
Worst.
I'd say the Lowe's Hotel timing was worse than the Mission Mall boondoggle. The Mission Mall redevelopment issues have little to do with the economy at large and a lot to do with a developer who is grossly underfunded and in way over his head. The hotel was always a questionable idea and the city should never have participated in the funding, but to be fair, even if it had been a good idea the convention market is now dead and will be for the next 18-24 months, and hotel occupancies are off 80%-90%. Even the best positioned hotels are in a bad way now.
DeleteJust another sucking chest wound on the KCMO taxpayers.
ReplyDeleteAdd it to the constantly-increasing debt that is increasingly being used for operations.
Eating your seed corn.
How much of this kind of momentum and success can KCMO "afford"?
Where's GopherKC to put the usual spin on this fiasco?
^^^ he’s probably shining sLIE and q’s shoes under a desk somewhere!
ReplyDeleteit doesn't seem like the frenetic business travel of recent times will ever come back to the same level.
ReplyDeleteit was manic.
now, it's over.
maybe we can help KC by voting for this new fire tax and then they can move money to pay for this beautiful building
ReplyDeleteMost tonyskansascity readers stated this year's ago including myself. But we didn't no,it would be this bad.
