KANSAS CITY MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS ORDERS CORONAVIRUS CRACKDOWN ON EVENTS OF MORE THAN 50 PEOPLE!!!

Sunday night preview of how the rest of this week will go . . .

KCTV5 reports: "Events and gatherings with 50 or more people with not be allowed in Kansas City for the next eight weeks, according to Mayor Quinton Lucas.

"This decision was announced after the CDC released new guidance on Sunday afternoon in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Such a thing can be done under the authority of the mayor's state of emergency proclamation.

"The mayor said that other local communities through the state will also be taking action."

Here's the Tweet confirmation:

Forgive us the question but this deserves a mention . . .

IS THE MAYOR PROVIDING ANY DETAILS ABOUT HOW THIS COVID-19 CRACKDOWN WILL BE ENFORCED?!?!

Other cities across the globe have issued fines and tickets but so far MOST people aren't being locked up for being jerks during the pandemic.

More explanation:

KMBC: "Lucas said educational institutions, daycare facilities and business operations are exempt."

Local newsies are still trying to figure out if this applies to bars & restaurants.

So far this is more like a strong suggestion from politicos in Missouri and Independence and the public hasn't shown a lot of willingness to comply.

More deets:

KSHB: KC Mayor Lucas, Mo. Gov. Parson sign-on to limit gatherings for 2 months

KC Biz Journal: "Independence Mayor Eileen Weir said her city is discouraging gatherings of 50 or more, but says decisions about private businesses haven't been reached yet."

In the end, this will decision will mostly be up to locals and their better judgement as to how they'll comply. Most Kansas City denizens are naturally homebodies so a few lucky souls might not even notice.

Still the health info from the CDC is useful and worth considering.

Developing . . .

  3. So what about employers that have more than 50 people working in the same space? A work environment is no different than any other place, is he just trying to screw businesses up to the point of losing big money? For two months?

  4. How the fuck can he enforce this? He can't. So he is shutting down P&L, Westport,Knuckleheads etc....What is going to do arrest everybody? It's wedding season, is that outlawed? Funerals and balloon releases? IDIOT.

  11. This is a time when KC should come together and Mayor Lucas has been right to show us all that we need to be vigilant in protecting ourselves and our community. He is simply following the rule for the CDC and showing us that a few simple steps will not only help us but also our entire city. Hats off to Mayor Lucas, he is rising to the occasion and doing a great job!

  16. Shame on all of this negativity. The guidance is from the CDC. If you don't want to obey the rules and put yourself and the community in jeopardy, I'm sure that the mayor will set up consequences from the KC Health Department. But if you love this city and respects your friends and neighbors, you will follow the lead of our mayor. Do ignore this advice is dangerous and wrong. We should all be thankful that Mayor Lucas is taking this kind of bold action. Thank you Mayor Q!

    1. If you run a business you have to be licensed by the city. If you're fined then and the health department takes action against you, you'll have a hard time staying in good standing to maintain those licenses.

  19. This isn't a policy made up by the mayor. This was the CDC recommendation that he will implement.

Too bad Trump won't let CDC make these recommendations when they were really needed. This should have been implemented last weekend if not earlier, but Trump won't sign off on them. His message is still "relax" and we're doing great.

There has been no closure decisions made by the White House. It's been states, cities, school districts and companies to figure it out on their own.

  22. If you are not open the city won't get any taxes, license fees and the health department can concentrate on HIV and STD. They fixed that. Fucking idiots.

  26. We are going to have to adapt to a very different way of living for a while. It will be awkward, inconvenient, uncomfortable and quite possibly expensive if these jerks keep buying up basic items and price-gouging. We have got to do our part (we all know what those things are, right?) to stay healthy, help each other, and survive not only the damn virus itself but the fear and panic it's causing. If you're scared, that's okay and it's a normal reaction to a very abnormal situation. Wash your hands, avoid crowds, take care of yourself, both physically and spiritually, and pay attention to what the real experts are saying. Yeah, I know, easier said than done. Peace to you all.

    They're businesses.

  29. If gopher was so concerned about the public maybe the city itself should implement some sort of phased time off for the thousands of city employees who are out in the public everyday, the biggest employer in the city has the highest chances of spreading the virus.

Not saying I wish any Virus would take ignorant selfish young people out, but they need to get - in their own terms WOKE! This virus isnt about you younger people because the death rate doesnt effect your age bracket, Which is why you still go to bars and have no worries of contracting it, But it could effect your Grand Parents and great Grand Parents, but if I had to guess you only care about how much money they might leave you once they die. Sad deal!!!

The TKC community said there would be no problems.

With only a couple weeks until March Madness, most of the games will be played as scheduled, with the exception of the opening round in Spokane, Washington and we'll see about Sacramento and L.A.

UMKC basketball just cancelled their Saturday game in Seattle.

Royals opening day looks to be in doubt.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ready? The First cases of Corona.... California...Ny....Nj....Washington State....Washington DC. All are run by Democrats!!!! Now spreading all over. The areas in America showing the most cases are places under democratic control or countries with poor health care. It's a different strain of the flu and that's all it is. Till the world cleans it's nasty ass up more of it will show up.

    ReplyDelete
  48. CDC, epidemic response, and border control policy are all nationally controlled and run by Trump's executive. Pandemic response is run by the federal government, period. States rely on the feds as the source of info, direction, and testing.

If you're determined to troll, at least be a tiny bit credible and show a little intelligence. That is really weak, even from the MAGA crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm a agricultural engineer and we are very well versed in epidemics and pandemics. We are on the front lines in the war against avian flu, swine flu, anthrax, listeria and e coli. I'm thinking the cases in Australia are the exception and not the rule due to Australias close proximity to Asia. But what I think is more telling is the lack of corvid19 activity in Africa, Mexico, Central America and South America. As we all know, corvid19 is a corona virus as is avian flu, swine flu, the yearly flu, virual pneumonia and common cold. Most corona viruses do not do well in warm weather. Due to the lack of activity in Africa Central and South America I'm thinking its true of this one too.

The other thing I find interesting but have no explanation for is why is this disease virtually unheard of in India? I don't understand that one myself.

Due to this as well as the steps our government is taking, by August this is going to be a foot note in history.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Not so sure about that warm weather theory. It's just as likely the travel patterns are lighter to low number continents. Europe and US to China routes carry more people than South America and Africa to China. As you said, Australia had significant cases during their record hot summer.

If it is weather related, July & August could be a slow down, but like Spanish flu, it would come back here with a vengeance next fall and winter. It certainly won't be a footnote.

  51. I guess I am a skeptic. Sorry but I don't think we are all going to die. Remember when Ebola was what was going to kill us all, and the media kept showing the piles of body bags that were prepared for the fallout. Then a month later it was totally forgotten. I wish people could just go about their lives until this plays out. I'll worry when there is a significant death toll like nearing a million or something. A handful of deaths out of 320 million Americans and we are in panic tearing down our society and costing our economy billions in the wake. It all just seems fishy, a little too well timed if you ask me.

    ReplyDelete
  52. No one has said "we are all going to die".

But to reinforce that narrative, you have to dismiss the "small" fatality numbers until we hit a very cruel figure. Which will happen if we all "just go about our lives" and spread it to every corner of the country. Listen to the doctors and scientists and read about pandemic curves.

1 million virus deaths would be absolutely horrific, but that barely moves the needle for you? And even that conjures a fishy conspiracy of some type.

    Jesus, help us.

  54. I'm no fan of gopher, but he is right about Lucas---he's doing what he can. I can only imagine what Sly would be doing if he were still mayor--using the crisis to justify more streetcars, hotels, and apartments downtown.

And Jolie--she'd have brownshirts on every street corner enforcing social isolation while approving every apartment project she could get her hands on.
