FIGHT TKC: KANSAS CITY MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS IS DOING A GOOD JOB AMID CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC LOCK DOWN!!!

For the record, this is NOT a political endorsement . . . TKC has only done that twice, both times were very early in the history of this blog. Word to House Of Pain: Once was to protect voting rights and keep a guy with mental issues out of office, the other endorsement was for a fellow admirer of urban Black Irish culture. Jump around.

But I digress . . .

RESOLVED: KANSAS CITY MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS HAS DONE A GOOD JOB IN TRYING TO PROTECT THIS COWTOWN FROM CORONAVIRUS!!!

Basically . . .

The ban on local events of more than 50 people simply reinforces directives from the CDC and hopes the community will invest in protecting our most vulnerable residents from the Coronavirus, which has claimed thousands of lives across the world.

There's an argument that the mayor was slow to move but let's not forget that in the absence of accurate testing there hasn't yet been a reported case in KCMO. Moreover, the Mayor is using his social media presence on Facebook & Twitter and even his mobile phone to warn stubborn local party people that threat is real and the lack of "social distancing" has the potential to impact the entire community.

Putting Kansas City on lock down was a good idea and while it's correct that the Mayor could do even more . . . The reason we believe his performance has been impressive is that HE IS LISTENING TO CONSTITUENTS and putting public safety first.

Follow-up:

FB Livestream: ‪Mayor Lucas, Governor Parson, local emergency management, health and law enforcement leaders are hosting a media availability now, following a #COVID19 briefing in Kansas City.‬

Fox4: Missouri Governor Mike Parson says sixth person in state tests positive for COVID-19

Fight me in the comments and we'll post some of the most thoughtful replies for Tuesday . . .

  1. agree +100.

There are other mayors in Missouri and Kansas who haven't lifted a finger. Maybe they don't care about their residents. At least Quinton is TRYING to do his job.

What you should point out is that most of the people who hate on the mayor every day don't even live in Kansas City. Some of them aren't from anywhere in the area, they aren't part of this community and should be blocked.

I always here that argument, the truth is that people who live in Johnson County also pay the E-tax and that gives us more than a right to weigh in on the mayor. Because he's stealing our money!

  12. BREAKING!!!!!!!

Mayor Selfie-Q made a personal call (pleading) to TKC asking for a show of support in this time of crisis.

What is the purpose of this blog? To counter the rose-colored controlled-media narrative found nearly everywhere else in this region, or to serve as an independent and necessary critic of the status quo?

FACT: Mayor Lucas, then Councilman Lucas, was on-board with all the big wasteful boondoggle projects (KCI single terminal, downtown convention hotel, ToyTrain, corporate giveaways, etc.) Yes, he stipulated slight disagreements a few times, but in the end, went with the flow and screwed taxpayers.

FACT: Wishing to protect KCMO corporate interests behind the Big 12 tournament, just days ago he was saying the "show must go on." Then he got the tap from above that this "virus thing" was on a national roll-out and there was absolutely NO fighting it. This is the biggest thing in this country since 9/11, and what no one is uttering is that it's a "planned event." Where did the legislation "Coronavirus Relief Act" come from that Congress just rammed through?

Americans are going to get screwed AGAIN because they still trust the media and the federal government/corporate oligarchy/military-intelligence community. You are a slave Neo!

  35. Look as a Mayor I think Lucas is terrible. But at least he is repeating and pleading to the public what people much smarter than him are saying to do. Those of you who think this blog is a totally Kansas City Mo thing are just simply pushing your desires into an area that does not exist or deciding how Tony should operate what's essentiality is his. Kansas City mean Kansas City Metro Area as a whole. Hell I have lived in JoCo my entire life, in partnership on ground in KCK and KCMo both and tell people all the time when I travel I live in Kansas City. I don't say I live in Johnson County of any of those cities because 90% of the people 150 miles from here probably have no clue where the majority of those towns are. But everyone one more or less knows where Kansas City is rather they understand there is a kansas and missouri side or not.

When you pay any tax based on earnings or owned property to an area you have a right to speak out on government actions in that area. You may not have voting rights but you do have rights to speak out. Those of you who say those living in JoCo have no right to speak out against KCMo are among the first to weigh in with trash talk or what ever when an issue happens in say Prairie Village, Olathe or Leawood.

Instead of looking to place blame on someone all the time we instead should look at ways to prevent such from happening in the future and set into place our own practices to not only protect ourselves but to protect those around us. One thing I have noticed of late is the number of people thinking they have the right as an American citizen to be protected from everything and anything but are unwilling to pay for such or actually doing what is necessary for such to happen. To much Me Me type thinking and not enough of looking out for All Of Us takes place much to often.

Sadly most Americans have an attention span the size of an ants brain. We could and can learn from this crisis but we won't. It will be the top of everyone's thinking till it is over and forgotten even quicker. When the cost of providing what everyone wants hits the taxpayers pocketbook the screaming will start for it to stop. Too many want everything handed to them but just are not willing to pay or work for such. Lots of steps could have been taken to slow or even lowered the overall outbreak of this virus but we all know the mass majority of you all wouldn't have liked it or been willing to pay for it all. You simply can't have it both ways either we step up and do what's right all the time or we deal with things of this nature that upset the flow of life off and on. America needs to start working together and not against one another.

    ReplyDelete
  36. will the missouri-kansas border be closed?

Instead of maintaining the city streets, police, water and other basic services, the City Council deferred spending on these basic service items so that general fund monty could be spent on projects which benefit a very small portion of the City.
18th and Vine, Jazz Museum, 3rd District projects, Linwood grocery, MLK renaming. In 2019 the City even let expire a $2 million annual expenditure for trash pick-up.
It is tragic what happened under James leadership.
I pray Lucas will turn things around.

Clearly neither are fit to handle a worldwide pandemic, much less know where the United States is on a map. This is the best what DNC offers? Must be bad joke! They just think about for themselves. They don't care about America. They just want to rule the World. Don't worry they can't beat Trump. Biden doesn't realize how easy history can be found online. Most people practically fell out of their seats when Biden said he'd treat the COVID19 the way they treated the H1N1 virus in 2009. It was a major failure on the part of government and we've learned what "not" to do.. It's obvious why Sanders has stayed in the race. Barack Obama and Joe Biden waited until millions were infected and thousands were dead before declaring a public health emergency concerning swine flu, the H1N1 virus,Bernie Sanders along with the other democrats never pushed them to do something earlier,So you liberals go ahead and lie about Trump's expedited efforts all you want but what the Obama Biden administration did is documented truth.

  67. Thousands of Americans were stuck in large crowds in US airports for hours after President Donald Trump announced a ban on travel from many European countries and the US.

Photos showed people standing shoulder to shoulder, while others had to wait for up to seven hours to be screened.

Travellers said people with symptoms or diagnoses were not properly separated, workers did not appear to have protective gear, people in the queue were sharing objects, and healthcare workers used incorrect terms such as "China flu."

Health experts and state politicians have criticized the crowding and said it could help the virus spread.

Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Thousands of Americans flooded US airports over the weekend after President Donald Trump abruptly announced a ban on travel from European countries in a bid to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The ban — which came into effect on Friday night for 26 European countries, and will do so for the UK and Ireland on Monday at midnight — does not stop US citizens and some other groups from entering the country from Europe.

As an increasing number of European countries went into lockdown, and airlines issued warnings of reduced flights, many Americans rushed to fly home, in some cases paying up to $20,000 to travel.

But once they reached the US, they faced long lines and densely packed crowed as they waited for hours to go through customs and get health screenings.

This was among the many public-health issues on display as health authorities advise people to stay far apart to stop the spread of the virus that has now killed over 6,500 people and infected more than 169,000 worldwide.

Jeremy Konyndyk, a senior policy fellow at the Center for Global Development, tweeted in response: "Good God. You could hardly invent a better scenario for superspreading events."

So what we see here is thousands of people who did use one lick of common sense putting everyone else at risk. But oh hey lets blame it all on Trump.

    ReplyDelete
  68. ^^^ Uh, what you just described is exactly Trump's fault.

Why did he order a policy implementation without needed communication, preparation, and resources???

There is no excuse, NONE, to have people stacked up in customs lines waiting for a "screening". That was the result of Trump's order.

It's was not unexpected. The same chaos happened when he tried his first travel ban in 2017. Airports were overwhelmed and had no idea what to do and it was a result of zero planning from the Trump administration. They have no idea what they are doing and are criminally bungling the needed response.
