TKC MUST READ!!! THE QUAFF FACT CHECKS DISGRUNTLED WORKER & KANSAS CITY SOCIAL MEDIA HATERS!!!

We talked a Kansas City restaurant ruckus at the outset of the week . . . A few hundred dweebs on a glorified message board targeted a beloved local institution and spread a nasty kitchen rumor with very little basis in fact.

What we learned is that "making the front page of Reddit" is pretty meaningless and their war against longstanding local biz was put down by an army of loyal customers who enjoy the old school vibe at The Quaff despite ongoing complaints from some hipsters who don't find it trendy enough for their liking.

Now . . .

CHECK THE QUAFF SMACKING DOWN DISGRUNTLED EMPLOYEE UNPROVEN ALLEGATIONS!!!

What we like here is that the language of the post isn't PC and obviously wasn't put together by a PR pro but it speaks to their clientele and refutes a great many Internets denizens attempting to stand up for the integrity of chicken strips.

Checkit:

The Quaff responds to Reddit allegations:

Ok Everyone this is what is going on:

We appreciated that everyone has given us the benefit of the doubt.

We Had a girl start Monday, she got fired 15 min into her shift. She decided to write a terrible review and submitted it online.

Our kitchen is spotless. Feel free to come by and check it out for yourself ANYTIME rather than listening anyone and their review online.

Feel free to spread the word, since ton of people (most who have Never even been to the Quaff) seem Hell bent on destroying 73 years of tradition and hard work.

Thank you for your attention and continued support.

  1. The quaff is a great place to get a drink after work. Always has been. Too bad so many online don't really like to "Buy local" when it's out of their peer group.

No room for old bar & grill in NEW KC downtown. All business must be vegan friendly.

    3. Haha you pathetic whiner. What maybe 3 vegan places including crossroads and a few dishes at some other resteraunts but that's too many for your wounded pride.

  2. Support the Quaff, it's been in the Bonino family for years, they are a hard working and proud Italian - American family with deep local ties.

It's a great place and deserves the benefit of the doubt. They have supported downtown when there was no downtown to speak of.

Shame that the Interet targeted them. Thank you for posting this TKC.

  3. The Quaff was my neighbor for 27 of the 30 years I have lived in Kansas City, that is til I was "gentrified" out of Q'Hill.

I never had the pleasure of meeting the #1 Bonino, but was always welcomed by Joe, Newt, then Anthony, Phil, and over the years Carl, Ralph, Animal, so many others.

Generations of friends and families have joined together for the good times at this fine 73 year old establishment, sustained by one concept, "everyone is welcome". It is and will always be a winning recipe for success. Whether blue collar, white collar, factory worker, banker, lawyer, broadcaster, even other service workers from another bar, gay, straight, single, married, all are able to sit side by side for a cold drink of their choice and enjoy a few hours of escape from the harshness of everything outside.

A little worn? Sure. A little dusty? Maybe. But it will be there for a long time after these polished pits of social engineering and the hipsters with their manufactured personalities trying to force their way in are long gone.

Did she take a shit on the bar?

  5. If internet bullying is so gauche why do Tony's Nazi scum keep on doing it to Kansas City?

  6. Because some dumb ass young girl couldn't take a few minutes of work. THe QUAFF has been around for years, sure it might be a bit dusty, but it has a long standing reputation not like the one in the west bottoms. It will survive but a long standing crowd.

  8. We can sit side by side and get drunk. To forget the harsh realities of Killer Shitty.

  13. From Tony Bonino (AKA Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men)
Son, we live in a world that has bars, and those bars have to be run by people with serious fucking attitudes. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Buttigieg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for this woman, and you curse the successful KC Gumbas. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that her firing, while tragic, probably got a lot of people cold beers and hot food fast, and in the future too ; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, helps the drinkers of Kansas City.

You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at Anton’s Steakhouse, you want me in that bar -- you need me in that bar.
We use words like "honor," "service, no bullshit from fucking anyone." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending a full service morning to 3 am bar. You use them as a punch line.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps while we are still open for business and then questions the manner in which I provide it.
I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went to Gram and Dun. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a big fucking loan to afford a bar on 10th and Broadway. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think you're entitled to!

  14. are these lofty descriptions of a bar I am reading on here of the same place I am thinking of - the quaff, on broadway I think? cause that place is a shit hole. usually nostalgia kicks in only after a place is gone ...

    1. Radish, a fancy gentlemen like yourself isn't accustomed to a real bar. Please stay in Prairie Village. That's about your speed. Kind of the point of this post. Don't turn a KC bar into your country club, stay there and EVERYBODY will be happy.

  16. I luv the Quaff! The wait staff is friendly and very attentive. It's not the Bristol, but the food is delicious and very affordable. Don't even get me started on the drinks. Those are delicious and plentiful for the price. Patrons meet up with a group or come by themselves. Everybody just minding their own business having a good time. Sorry somebody lost a job. I hope that given another chance at another job, they will choose a more positive behavior.

  17. I use to go to bars in KC and the Quaff was one of the best. It is still run by the same people and I know other people that continue to go there and love it. I suspect it is one of the original gastro pubs still in existence. It's not an Overland Park or Leawood bar, or a Fairy Village bar. It's a good ole bar. I am thinking of going back for a beer and a burger. Hell it's only 11 PM now so I'll go there tonight.
