TKC SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! KANSAS CITY BLACK CLERGY FADING AS DOMINANT URBAN CORE POLITICAL FORCE?!?!

This week marked the passing of a titan in Kansas City urban core faith life, politics and cultural history.

Kansas City Pastor And Civil Rights Leader Wallace Hartsfield Dies At 90

His legacy, influence and power to inspire and lead his community should be remembered and honored.

But this post is about the future and here's what we can't help but notice . . .

THE RISE OF KANSAS CITY GENTRIFICATION AND MORE DIVERSITY IN THE URBAN CORE HAS THREATENED THE BALANCE OF POWER FOR THE LOCAL BLACK CLERGY!!!

A PERFECT example to prove our point . . .

The Save The Paseo vote served as a milestone that very well might mark the beginning of the end for this faith-based political power structure.

The voting deets tell the whole story:

"From the Kansas City Election Board unofficial results . . . Of the 11 majority Black wards in Kansas City, "Save The Paseo" won six of them. And if you combine the vote total for all 11 wards . . . "Save The Paseo" won 50.58% . . . The proponents of MLK failed REPEATEDLY both in the petition process and in this campaign."

A few more things to consider . ..

- There are far more votes in the 5th district than the 3rd - Southeast KC is now the real "east side" as African-American communities have also been impacted by income stratification and Black residents with more money to invest in homes have moved to Raytown, Grandview and Lee's Summit.

- The role of the Church is in decline throughout the nation and in the African-American community as well. For quite some time, political leadership in urban communities is no long longer strictly faith-based.

- Latino, Asian, Indian and Arab immigrants (along with a great many artsy white people looking for cheap land) are moving into the 3rd District at a rapid pace and sparking a greater ethnic diversity. These aren't patrons of Black Faith communities and as the immigrant neighborhoods mature, they're unlikely to hold the same political interests or allegiance to the will of the Revs.

Finally, since that controversial Rev who allegedly choked his assistant according to tawdry allegations, the KC Council hasn't hosted a faith leader from the urban core for more than half a decade.

For these reasons and many more . . . KC might be witnessing the end of an era and a political reality to consider as we continue to fight over the fate of a street named for MLK . . .

Developing . . .

  1. Well, it's good to see that you're giving Save the paseo some credit. Their best achievement was getting a coalition across different neighborhoods together even if some of their ideas were dopey and their resolution was voter petition was very sloppy.

  2. They have lost their compass like democrats who chase the money while forsaking their constituents.

  3. I recall back in the day -while driving thru the ghetto on election day -- and seeing church transport vans being used to ferry Democrat crack-heads to the polls

It's a funny irony of history that the Civil Rights Leaders used the Teachings of Jesus to such great effect. Kunta Kinta, & the others, were not Christians when they were brought here against their will, though once here, they were forced, coerced & brainwashed into joining the Jesus Cult.

Still, though they were Christians, they had to attend their own churches & weren't welcome in the White Churches. This is how the African American ministers first came to power, ironically because of the unChristina behavior of the white ministers.

Non-whites have always tried to decide who the black leaders should be, which is of course, silly if they actually understood anything about leadership.

I think your requiem is premature.

    1. Could be more of observation than a demand. Seems your suggestion that Black ministers are still in power, if you're white, would be the same thing you Tony of.

  6. As long as KCMO voters continue to elect cowards who have no particular reasons for running for city council or mayor other than "to be somebody" and are empty vessels waiting for someone to tell them what to do, the usual suspect revs' tactics of intimidation and demand will continue to work just fine.

  7. Don’t forget the sketchy Black preacher that lobbied Police to thrown homeowners out to replace them with East Patrol we hi how now sits outside of its service boundaries. That is somebody who should have taken a dirt nap way before now. These sketchy preachers lost faith from the community and Black clergy are nothing more than perverted relics of what was once an honorable position in the community. If these were the types of preachers had in the 50’s and 60’s, the Black race would still be in Jim Crow bondage. Hartzfield was good in his day but that was a very long time ago.

  9. This is America. The constitution says we must have a separation between church and state.

    ReplyDelete
  10. ^^^ No, @7:06, it says the Federal Government cannot establish a "National Church".

Any doctrine toward "Separation of Church and State" has stemmed from Court interpretations of that restriction, and can easily be overturned by other Courts at any time.

The Constitution is readily available online, check for yourself.

  15. CREDIT TO SAVE THE PASEO for helping to free Black people from the notion that Black preachers represent the political will of all Black people. This conversation is the last hurdle to true freedom from society painting this broad notion that Black preachers represent an entire race of people as if to believe that blackness is a monolith. Black people are as diverse as any other race of people with differing beliefs. There is no such thing as a Black leader. Save the Paseo helped tremendously in helping to lift this religious veil of fraud.

  19. What has happened for decades the black churches not all but too many where pimped to get votes for crooked Democrat candidates.

Mayor cleaver church in the 1990s was allegedly the center of voter fraud where candidates names were left of ballot. Ballots displayed union logo.

Sclc organization James tindal and others back when allegedly took money to support dishonest dems including Claire mccaskill and Republican senator kit bond whose name appeared on freedom inc literature. Fooled many posing as Democrat on ballots but truth hid he's Republican.

Voted in overwhelming for years hiding fact he was a Republican in black wards.

Folks get in to d.c. push money back to projects that allegedly benefited James b nutter back in the day and certain law firms who had hand in this evil that controlled black precincts..

Only needed politicians to pass money to pet projects controlled by outsiders as a front....

Mccaskill knew of voter fraud allowed it because of her position as prosecutor.

Pastors offered deals from allegedly keeping their kids out of jail to financing for churches.

Election board crooked as heck.. insuring outcomes for folks who didn't really get the votes..

For years ballots always reported late in black wards always... white wards always in timely.. freaks allegedly making up difference from double punching ballots too adding ballots against honest candidates who won't eat the cow manure.

Kcpt pbs did story about black churches and pastors taking gifts to allow crooked dems to speak in churches to gain votes.

Freedom inc caught raiding senior citizen buildings for absentee votes then switching votes allegedly to control outcomes.

Unfortunately some dumb black pastors went for this allowing crook politicians to sway votes knowing these folks would destroy the city for personal gain for the bigger crooks who put them up to running.

The white churches or mixed churches don't allow politician to make speeches.

Once certain pastors who want power bite the forbidden fruit and sign up to do evil they will become indentured servants to the machine..

The machine has dynasties who have parents in politics then passed on to the kids.. a ritual offering their first born into this scam.

God is the real power... they forfeit their own souls for this false power. What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul.

  21. This Byron Funkgeezer is a self appointed white apologist to all the non-white, non-Christian and non-straight groups that have suffered so much under all the advancements of past and present society.

Byron Funkgeezer fails to realize and admit that these so called oppressed groups are most always their own worst enemy against acheivement and success.

Byron Funkgeezer comments never, never discusses personal responsibility and accountability in dealing with the here and now.
