KANSAS CITY HALLMARK SUFFERS VALENTINE'S MASSACRE!!!

Massive shut downs across the nation loom . . .

Behind the KC Biz Journal paywall, this quote seems to sum things up:

"A Hallmark spokeswoman said the company is reshaping operations to cut costs, overhaul its retail business and drive more online sales."

Behind their paywall, the WSJ boldly proclaims the truism that people have stopped sending greeting cards.

And so the company will combine its card and retail businesses in an effort to redirect resources to bolster online offerings and hope to shift from cards to digital sales . . . Take a look at how their progress is coming along:

Hallmark stores are closing in 12 states amid card struggles

It's a tough time to be in the greeting-card business. Papyrus is closing all 254 of its stores in the US and Canada after its parent company, Schurman Fine Papers, filed for bankruptcy citing "the general downturn in the brick-and-mortar retail industry."

  10. If you buy a greeting card, go to the dollar stores … so much cheaper. Everything is overpriced in the Hallmark stores. And the small, carved wooden sculptures might be the lamest line of products I've seen in a long time in any retail outlet anywhere.

  11. That's the Willow Tree Figurines at Hallmark. The artist who makes them, and making a mint off of them, must have known someone in high places, to get that gig, and I don't mean the Almighty.
