KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City's mayor said he wants to help businesses along one key metro avenue. A number of storefronts along Troost Avenue are in need of sprucing up. Economic development show stores with bright, modern facades attract more customers.

  7. Lucas and the KCMO gang look like they're trying to keep up with the Democratic presidential candidates vying too see who can promise to give more free things away.
    Of course, the federal government can print money and its borrowing power is almost unlimited.
    KCMO, on the other hand, can borrow and give away only so much before the lines cross and even MORE is siphoned from basic services to paying for past debt.
    Bankruptcy happens slowly and then very quickly.
    And the KCMO financial vortex is swirling.
