KANSAS CITY MAYOR & COUNCIL PASS TENANT 'BILL OF RIGHTS' TODAY BUT THEY'LL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT 2020!!!

It's a somewhat watered down version with a few important changes . . .

The measure puts some conditions on how landlords can handle a prospective tenant's rental payment history. It bars landlords from denying renters who have a criminal record, just on that basis alone . . MONEY LINE: ADVOCATES WILL HAVE TO COME UP WITH AROUND $1 MILLION TO FUND THIS PROGRAM.

That's a huge payoff for a group asking for a litany of freebies.

From KC Tenants on their victory:

"Over 115 supporters witnessed the KCMO City Council pass a historic KC Tenants Bill of Rights this afternoon. After almost two months of deliberation and negotiation, both parts of the Tenants Bill of Rights package — a resolution and an ordinance — passed, the resolution with a 12-1 vote, and the ordinance with a 10-2 vote and one abstention . . . "

"Our entire community should be proud of our KC Tenants Rights package and what it will mean for the nearly half of all Kansas Citians who rent their homes,” said Mayor Quinton Lucas. “Since becoming mayor, my office has worked with KC Tenants on this package, which demands safe, quality and affordable housing for Kansas Citians – and I’m tremendously proud of the result. This process is an outstanding example of how legislating should always be done: through crafting smart and deliberate policy, providing ample opportunity for community input.”

“Growing up, my family experienced bouts of homelessness, and I know how it feels to have a hole in your window for weeks during the dead of winter, with seemingly no recourse,” continued Mayor Lucas. “These policies will change how we do business here in Kansas City, and will be a national blueprint for empowering tenants in communities across the country.”"

  1. In other words, this goes away when the money for protesting does.

  2. So the council passed a bill that allows felons to be your neighbors.
Say hello to more drug houses and sex offenders and violent criminals
as your neighbors. And KC wonders why we have a crime problem.

  3. The result of this will be higher rents for everybody. If you think landlords are just going to eat the costs of compliance (more deadbeats ducking the rent), then you must be a libtard.

  4. rent just went up. Criminals getting priced out

  5. Should people protest that white, Asians and Hispanics are not represented equally ? Seems the photo indicates only Blacks.

  6. Fuck the owner occupants and neighborhoods, tenants can fuck up your whole neighborhood and have the public defend said behaviour. Unbelievable. This isnt a blueprint. Its a shit stain on KC.

  7. OK Boomers.

What a bunch of entitlement I'm seeing here. This is a great day for Kansas City, we're finally fighting for affordable housing and holding property owners accountable for their actions.

    2. I guess you guys are just going to cry into your soup and wait to die. Sorry, this is a good proposition for Kansas City and we should support it, not just sit around and whine about it. People deserve to have good housing. That's all this legislation does.

  8. HOUSING IS A HUMAN RIGHT

    Deal with it.

  9. Oh no! There goes the neighborhood.

  10. No reason to rend to these bums. They are cutting the throats of their own people.

  12. Landlords, will do business in other City's and Towns, they, have most of Missouri and Kansas to work with, There is a sucker, born every minute. They will sell Kansas City properties ,Rent to own, or Contact for deed. And the Tenants will have to repair there own home.

  13. More nonsense from KCMO. Don’t deny that pedophile from renting next to the daycare, that wouldn’t be neighborly. These people all look like bent dimes in the coin return of life. I wouldn’t rent to any of them anyway.

  14. 6:30, you and Ren sound like tards. Housing is not a right, it is a privilege. Of course to you freebie grabbers, I’m sure a Lexus and lobster and champagne are human rights too, especially when you don’t have to pay for it.

  15. So now smile selfies Lucas and the gang have passed:
A rental property ordinance that is estimated to cost over $1 million to administered WITHOUT ANY WAY TO PAY FOR IT.
And a "free" bus program which is estimated to cost over $8 million/year WITHOUT ANY WAY TO PAY FOR IT.
This is starting out to be an administration even more based in fantasyland and make-believe than the Slyster.
    The giant sucking sounds continue.

  17. When your city council represents a very small percentage of the city population, you risk an exodus of those who feel they have no representation. This is especially true when you have a state line running running next to your city. Long term risk? You could end up like East St Louis.

    ReplyDelete
  18. This might be a good thing. It could mean much higher rents in the shithole ghetto. It’s possible a lot of our ghetto residents would have to relocate to a cheaper shithole like St Louis.

  19. PLEASE! KCMO is SO dysfunctional when it comes to holding property owners accountable, there are an endless number of examples whereby a negligent/absentee owner has been allowed to avoid responsibility for years upon years.

You can own a house/building in KCMO, severely neglect it to the point of a cave-in, get court continuance after continuance, maybe pay a small fine every few years, and the City will let you slide forever.

    1. But who is renting this kind of home? This tenant bill doesnt address that at all. WTF are you talking about?

  20. Telling people what they can and can't do with their property is Government Tyranny and that is what you just witnessed in KC. Sad day for ignorant people who have no idea what they have just done. Making landlords be responsible is one thing, but this is way different.

  21. Watch now for legal action to take place that will get this ordinance put on hold. Sure it passed today but putting into play will be another whole issue.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I see a pattern here. More legislation that's all sizzle and not steak. Look at the ordinance, there's no THERE there. And they have to raise one million. That's not exactly a victory.

  23. Communism Kansas City style
Watch the movie Dr Zhivago and the scene were the communists move a bunch of people into his house by force. Telling him he has no right to own a big house

    1. ^^^ I was going to say socialism, but why split hairs?

It's the culture of entitlement and it's running rampant in KC.

    2. Jason j. The only difference between socialism and communism is the amount of force used

  24. Sure it passed but will it be enforced?

  25. It's called ACCOUNTABILITY and we need more of it in Kansas City!

  26. FUCK YOUR COUCH!! They be sitting on new porches now.

  27. Why do these tenants rent from slumlords? Why don’t they just move to Southern Joco. There are a lot of nice places out there, better schools and low crime.

LMAO everywhere except within the ranks of local politico's.

  29. In the end I question if we'll ever see this legislation take hold. It seems like something that has good intentions but isn't really rooted in reality. The million dollar figure is curious and I'm not sure having private donations fund city departments is legal.
