TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY WINNERS AND LOSERS RANKED AFTER VOTERS REJECT MLK BLVD & SAVE THE PASEO!!!

A historic vote is complete and Kansas City now stands as not only one of the most violent towns in the nation but also home to the most racially divisive discourse in the American Heartland.

Once and for all, whilst lame political hacks attempt to downplay the culture war implications. There's no denying the racial conflict inherent in this vote and provincial concerns about preserving local history are unconvincing and contrived.

KC doesn't really care about the past as Historic KC will gladly attest whilst standing next to one of many piles of rubble that were once landmark buildings torn down by developers eager to make a few bucks.

Hence, here's a glimpse at some of the headlines across the nation this morning:

New York Times: Kansas City Voters Remove Martin Luther King’s Name From Boulevard

CBS News: Kansas City votes overwhelmingly to remove Martin Luther King Jr.'s name from historic street

Daily Beast: 70% Vote to Remove Martin Luther King’s Name From Kansas City Street

To wit . . .

OUR BLOG COMMUNITY OFFERS THE OFFICIAL KANSAS CITY RANKING OF WINNERS & LOSERS AFTER VOTERS BOLDLY REJECTED MLK BLVD!!!

Consider this quickie list a starting point for discussion and we WELCOME more suggestions from "many sides" of this argument.

THE WINNERS

Our favorite drunken, Irish politico once said that victory has a thousand fathers but none of them are the plebs who actually hit the pavement and got this vote started. Accordingly, here's a glimpse at the people who really garnered a boost after last night's returns.

THE GREAT WHITE NORTHLAND

Our blog community drilled down into this vote and while the margin is EPIC overall -- Don't overlook the impressive fact Clay & Platte County sided with the Save The Paseo by an OVERWHELMING margin even greater than Jackson County . . . Question 5 garnered 77% approval in Platte County and a whopping 81% victory in Clay County.

The Northland doesn't always vote big but this HUUUUUUUGE margin was a clear signal to the urban core about an issue that had little to no impact on our suburban neighbors.

KANSAS CITY MAGA VOTERS

Our thesis last night that was proven correct: Save The Paseo was a MAGA, populist, and politically incorrect vote.

The grassroots campaign touted their diversity constantly, annoyingly but the demographics of their voter support closely matches the same path to victory as the Prez.

Argue their intentions all day but to deny their kinship with the MAGA social media tactics is to ignore the very real possibility (likelihood) that the Democratic Party doesn't have a true populist candidate other than that lovable, ailing, socialist curmudgeon Senator Bernie Sanders.

Meanwhile, Hillary is thinking a lot harder about running again than anyone would dare admit.

CLAY CHASTAIN & KANSAS CITY CITIZEN INITIATIVE PETITIONS

More than anybody else . . .

CLAY CHASTAIN AND CITIZEN INITIATIVE PETITIONS WON LAST NIGHT!!! THE GRASSROOTS DEMOCRACY TOOL OF THE PEOPLE SERVES AS THE ONLY IMPLEMENT TO PUSH BACK SHADY BACKROOM DEALS!!!

Over the past 25 years Clay Chastain has used KCMO citizen initiative petitions more than anybody else and MSM has dismissed and decried this tactic. Today the outcome of this vote proves the viability of the democratic strategy.

THE LOSERS

There's more than enough blame to go around but these public figures seem to be taking the most heat or burden following the vote . . .

VISIT KC SELLING THIS TOWN NOW TAGGED AS RACIST ACROSS THE NATION

Already Missouri is on the NAACP NO-LIST and the vote to rebuke MLK Blvd doesn't make this town seem any more appealing to people of color.

Again, the motivation behind the Save The Paseo effort was complex but in the end the altruistic intentions touted by supporters are just more rhetorical garbage for the news cycle. When all is said and done, voters rejected MLK Blvd and the signs will come down. #Causality #Aristotle

REV. DR. VERNON HOWARD AND URBAN CORE KANSAS CITY BLACK CLERGY

Dr. Howard denounced racism and privilege he claimed motivated many of the Save The Paseo supporters and that statement ignited a firestorm of citywide rebuke.

Moreover, this vote shows us that the power of the Revs to turn out the vote from their own community has faded since the civil rights era.

The African-American clergy didn't inspire a majority of Kansas City voters to do anything but join the ranks of their grassroots opposition.

Finally . . .

THE QUINTON LUCAS COUNCIL COALITION

Again, Mayor Lucas wrote and championed the legislation to rename The Paseo and this was an OVERWHELMING VOTER SMACK DOWN OF HIS POLICY. His strongest allies on the council voted right along with him and now their influence takes a very real hit. Expect to see more challenges to their power in the very near future as the VOTER HONEYMOON FOR MAYOR Q IS NOW COMPLETE.

And so . . .

Let's not pretend this question is settled.

The search is on to find another street to rename after beloved civil rights icon MLK as the debate promises to continue into an already tumultuous 2020 election year.

Developing . . .

  8. "There's no denying the racial conflict inherent in this vote and provincial concerns about preserving local history are unconvincing and contrived."

This is total bullshit. Most of the people affected by the change (i.e., those living on the Paseo) opposed it. Had the City Council followed the rules, they would never have reached the required majority of residents to enact this name change.

This vote had NOTHING to do with race, and a city that has elected two black mayors in a row (both of whom faced white opponents) should not be accused of racism based on this one vote.

Shame on those who are trying to make this something it is not.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Had the City Council followed the rules

ROFL very funny. They haven't followed any rules for eight freaking years and still are not.

  12. Tony, you're an idiot on this one. I voted yes because I didn't like "special interest groups" railroading something illegally through City Council. If they can do it with something as small as a street name change, what next? How much is that going to cost me as a taxpayer next time?

I don't like how things were pushed through with the streetcars or the airport and I don't think City Council listens to what their actual constituents think.

Message sent loud and clear yesterday. Now let's work to fix up the ALREADY EXISTING MLK Park and put in a fountain, statue and some decent playground equipment. A community gathering place that would really make MLK proud and not renaming a historic street that has sentimental value for a lot of people.

This whole thing was a stupid waste of time and money in my opinion.

  13. I hate Trump but I voted to Save the Paseo.

Trump will lose and the Paseo will be around long after his term is up!

  14. Manny Abarca is a BIG Loser. People will remember his racism accusations next time he runs for office. Maybe he should look into getting a real job for once in his life.

    ReplyDelete
  15. True statements above...it was not about race, it was about the City Council not following a legal process, and it bit them in the ass in the end. Hell, you really want the city council to start LISTENING to the citizens, force them to be like other cities and have their meetings in the evening when the citizens can actually attend. But nope, they work bankers hours so they can do sneaky crap like this.

The only real winner, though, was MoDOT. Notice how they had not changed any of the signs on the interstate exits yet? They sat back and waited to see if they would even need to spend the money, unlike the City, who in their infinite wisdom must now pay labor to put the old signs back up! At least they weren't completely dumb and kept the old signs...

    ReplyDelete
  30. It had nothing to do with Q, TKC, Clay the Gad Fly nitwit or the SCLC. It was a rebuke of the Council for ramming a stupid change down the voters throats. The Paseo is on the Registry of Historic Places for God's sake. Rename 6erd street of just clean up MLK Park.

The loser is this blog which got it all wrong.

  32. Many reasons to be happy about this result but what makes me happiest is thinking about the midday KMBZ duo. I was car-captive Monday when they were taking tons of calls on this and for a half-hour, I don't think I heard a single one in favor of continuing to honor MLK('s loser family with tons of money KC could better use elsewhere) with this name change. And, even though the callers didn't sound like a bunch of elderly racists; indeed they had great points on how procedures were not followed and why The Paseo was a terrible choice for the rename, the hosts (esp. Jamie) sounded annoyed beyond belief that this was even on the ballot. "Ya, why don't we just vote on everything!!! Like the street car....?" lol

    Yes, lets.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Stop the streetcar expansion.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I would like to see how the people that live along The Paseo voted. Is there a place to find out how those districts voted? I don't think it is a race thing at all, it was that the then city council did not follow their own procedures.
I also think that Tony is wrong in posting a picture of the president at the top of the article. He has had nothing to do with this issue. He didn't issue any comment before or after the vote about it. Put S'liar's and Q's pics in its place, this is squarely on them.

    ReplyDelete

  55. One of the many lies from the Save the Paseo folks -- who apparently equated naming a street after an American hero who happened to be black with destruction -- is that the council did not follow the rules in deciding to make the change and did not take the opinion of the public in its deliberations.

Over a year of discussions and public meetings were held. The Council is NOT required to obtain the permission of a percentage of the residents to make a change -- but held those hearings anyway.

The fact is that the Council believed that honoring this uniquely American hero with our unique public highway. that there is no bad time to do the wrong thing. The fact that the electorate chose otherwise is unfortunate -- and the motives of many of the voters is more so.

But, democracy means that the voters are free to make bad decisions. Look at DC.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Phil: you are totally wrong on your comments. The City council was bullied by Reed, Clever and the Ministers for the 8 votes they needed for passage. The basic idea of the council honoring an American hero is fine but the implementation of this idea was the PROBLEM.
Separation of Church and State is the foundation of our system. The east side ministers receive tax breaks and should not be involved in policy.
The Council should have never taken this step and they have created a situation of even more division in the City and have now embarrassed this City on a national level.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Any refund due the city on the $400,000 paid to the King "family" for use of the name?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Mr. Cardarella, the Council WAS REQUIRED by the City Charter to "obtain and to have verified the approval of 75% of the Property Owners whose property abuts the thoroughfare in question" and designated the Planning and Zoning Department as the entity that verifies and certifies the correctness of this documentation. Also note that the Charter makes no distinction between "boulevards" and "streets" using the inclusive word "thoroughfares".
Do not take my word for this, the Charter is available online, read it for yourself. This approval documentation and its verification was not obtained by the Council prior to the vote on the name change.

I understand that it is your desire to protect the reputation and defend the actions of a particular Councilperson, but the facts are that that Councilperson and others on the Council did not follow the City Charter's requirements. PERIOD!

An elected official MUST obey the rules, or, should they make the deliberate choice to flaunt them, must be prepared to accept the consequences of their actions.

I also take offense at your claim that there were "many lies" - HELLO, POT!

The injured class and those that represent them (or have an interest in keeping them down) have overused the term to the point that anything and everything is racist. When you say I am racist what I hear is I have a opinion different from yours. The term has no stigma for me. Sorry, that is your creation, live with it or come up with a new term for shock value.

Quite a trick for such a "white" part of town, isn't it?

I would invite any of you residents who live south of the River to actually spend some time in the "Northland", and to see for yourselves how diverse the population is.

Don't misjudge the facts that we have a growing population and economy (36% of KCMO population paying 62% of KCMO Tax Revenue) and functioning School Systems. Visit the "Great White Northland" and see for yourselves.

Cardarella wrote, "..there is no bad time to do the wrong thing." He spoke his truth for a change on that one!

On Tuesday's vote to reverse the corrupt Council action, Cardarella, whose wife (Shields) grandstanded after the Council ignored the public, wrote "The fact that the electorate chose otherwise is unfortunate." 80. The MLK foundation does not turn around and invest the royalities back into the KC bkack community, it goes more to something like educating all those fiscally minded dumb white ppl.

What would make black kids go to school more? Black african history? Do not think anyone knows much about it to teach it, besides what a dick head belgium and other coloialists were/are? Or would that just make blk students more pissed off?

Go back farther in black histry than MLK,

    Teach them about Ogoun,

and maybe that the unconscious impetus to wearing all those gold chains? Or would that backfire too? Teen girls get into fights, with guns, at basketball games. Teen blk girl shot and killed another teen black girl at a fckn basketball game. Her quote? "i let the fire go."

black flks even conveniently forget how involved their black african brothers were in selling them to all the slave traders and still do in the present day.

as long as black people kill far far more of one another in the US than the police, their complaints about the police are going to remain ridiculous to a large portion of the white community.

Maybe black africans, or some of the black african immigrants, should send some representative to US schools to give them some knowledge of themselves beyond the what little they really know about the history of slavery, and teach history long before MLK.

for some reason a big self confidence booster is for young black men to run around and make videos of themselves waving guns around. If blk pissed off kids stopped the shit with their guns and killing one another, pretty sure police would be less likely to fear for their safety when dealing with the black community.
    -----------Ogun-----------------------
In Yoruba religion, Ogun is a primordial orisha who first appeared as a hunter named Tobe Ode. Orisha to descend to the realm of Ile Aiye ("Earth"), to find suitable place for future human life. In some traditions he is said to have cleared a path for the other gods to enter Earth, using a metal ax and with the assistance of a dog. To commemorate this, one of his praise names, or oriki, is Osin Imole or the "first of the primordial Orisha to come to Earth". He is the god of war and metals.

  82. Ha! What a bunch of FUBAR frauds all those race hustlers, Revs, and fools like Phil are! Killa Shitty is already designated as Rayciss! Damned dummies must have forgotten about the NAACP's advisory, a couple years ago, that warns blacks to be cautious of travel throughout the entire state of Missouri.

3:56 is at first, referring to King Leopld (Read Leopod's Gold), when Belgium ruled parts of Africa and took not gold, but RUBBER out. The occupation was the inspiration for Conrad's "Heart Of Darkness" (Which begat "Apocalypse Now")

The rest is a plea, for admission, from blacks, that it was blacks that sold so many slaves to the New World and the acknowledgement of that fact, might set some people free from the lies and the narratives that have destroyed the black race - especially, since 1964.

The comment actually makes sense. At least to me.

  84. They'll want to name some street after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Make it one that people don't live on, because it will be a real bitch to have to type or write that mouthful on an envelope. That alone is justification for having to get approval from 75% of property owners.

    1. Except many of those buyers were fellow Africans, when there was something as sophisticated as commerce going on. More often it was tribal bloodshed, rape, and enslavement of the other savages.

Sorry. Wakanda is not only fictional, it's a hilarious parody of real African history.
