TKC BLOG COMMUNITY QUESTION: DID PREZ TRUMP KILL KANSAS CITY STAR?!?

The so-called Kansas City paper-of-record is fighting for survival amid the overall decline of print media in the digital, social media era.

Remember that we noted rearranging the deck chairs and recent editorial moves last week and then retired reporters and media "experts" chimed-in with their two-cents despite the fact they haven't seen a newsroom in a decade.

Here's a quick run-down on probs confronting McClatchy, the Star's parent company:

Seeking Alpha: The company will shed about 30 positions as it consolidates some editing and management regionally.

Breitbart: Fake News Industry -- How McClatchy Uses False Stories to Attract Investment amid Financial Woes

NediaPost: McClatchy Given 18 Months To Become Compliant With NYSE Listing Standards

These links are more productive than angry, marginally employed blogger blathering as the short sellers are moving in behind the scenes and hedge funds prep to play corporate raider with the faltering stock.

But it's the newsroom foibles which entertain most Kansas City media denizens . . .

Tony Berg moving to Witchita is just kinda sad . . . It's almost as pathetic as all of the crusty former workers bringing out their old grudges against the new KC Star Prez Mike Fannin just because he doesn't wanna be their drinking buddy anymore . . .

Better than that . . . Kansas City insiders offered a great perspective on dead tree decline given their recent coverage. Here's the word . . .

"It seems like ever since (Prez) Trump, they have been printing whatever they wanted even if it's not connected to reality whatsoever. They're so desperate to fight against him that they've destroyed their own credibility in the process. And that influences their other coverage that just seems like political talking points nowadays . . ."

To be fair, all media have taken a hit in the Prez Trump era which has actually been kind to our blog community of complainers.

Here's a sampling . . .

Fox News: Lindsey Graham calls out media to their faces, says reporters want to 'get' Trump

Daily Caller: DONALD TRUMP, JR - I’m Not Taking A Civility Lesson From Media Hypocrites

Newsweek: Fox News Anchor Criticizes Donald Trump's Attacks on Journalists - 'It's a Problem'

Politico: Trump provokes outrage by calling impeachment inquiry ‘a lynching’

Hill: White House to cancel subscriptions to New York Times, Washington Post after Trump remarks

And so, tonight the question is:

HAS THE KANSAS CITY STAR BECOME WHAT THEY HATE AND TURNED INTO A BOMBASTIC PURVEYOR OF POLITICAL RHETORIC TRUMPING FACT?!?!

The bright side, either way their former workers and future firings will have plenty of time to thing about this question as the "journalism" (lulz) job market isn't EVER going to get any better.

Developing . . .

  1. They were already dead when he got there. Maybe they just didn't know it yet.

Can't give the guy TOO MUCH credit.

    1. Star has always been a crap paper. But now people actually have options and other stuff to read. Check your NEXTDOOR site if you want to see something that really impacts you. Twitter has better pundits. Facebook is for your family and friends and Instagram is the best celebrity magazine out there. People don't need the newspaper to tell them what to think. Why should anybody pay for that?

      No thanks.

  4. The KC Star is a tabloid, not a newspaper.

  5. Even an amateur detective could see that this was a suicide.
And the editorial board included a "Do Not Resuscitate" order.
So the last published page will be an obit.

  6. The Star killed itself. They endorsed Hillary Clinton with over forty years of corruption. Readers know they are the mouth of the Socialist PARTY. AND History will repeat itself. Hillary may get back in the 2020 race and They will endorse her again. I am

I'm not a Trump voter. I want to vote for the Democratic candidate in the next election but I have to admit that he has mastered the media better than any other president since Ronald Reagan. When you look at how much his supporters love him, he has truly found a way to bypass the filter.

  10. I have never liked Trump. However if he killed the stinking Star then he is my hero! What rude ad takers over the years when you called in stuff for sale. Rude!

  11. The National Enquirer is more truthful than the Star. They have shown their political leaning in a 50/50 country for decades. Instant way to fail in business, alienate half your customers. Get out the butter, they're toast.

  13. Did anyone notice that Trump today tweeted that "George Washington violated the Constitution by continuing to run his own business while he was President too"?

In other words, Trump ADMITTED that he "violated the Constitution TOO"!

How could he put a newspaper out of business when he's to dumb to keep from admitting his own guilt?

  15. I voted for Obama, but didn't want to put Hillary in office because of all the dishonest actions she took to destroy emails and devices after a court subpoena. Total B.S. So, I voted for Trump, and continue to be amazed at how Democrats and the media are hanging onto every word that Trump says, hoping that one or two words will undo a duly-elected president. He adds a "too" to a sentence, then he's guilty and should be thrown out of office. As Joe Biden would say, "Come on, man!" The shady behind-doors sessions that Schiff is leading will just make more independents move to Trump's side. The Republicans have never pulled this kind of crap on a Democratic president. It's not right, and the Dems need to be taught it's not the way to serve America by losing in 2020.

  17. JUST THE FACTS MA'AM

On the superficial surface(what passes for news)the story has always been that Big Media and Trump are at war. It began as soon as Trump announced his candidacy for the 2016 Republican nomination. They reported he was a joke, and had absolutely no chance. They couldn't give him enough attention!

During the Republican debates, he was always positioned front and center, and dominated the air-time. From a field of 17 candidates, Trump picked them off one at a time, with the media's assistance.

Then it was Trump versus Hillary in the final debates leading up to the vote. By this time, the entire "Fake News" narrative was in full-swing to polarize working-class Middle America against the Liberal Coastal Elites supporting the Clinton Crime Cartel, with nearly all Corporate Media publicly in the Clinton camp. Of the nation's 100 largest newspapers, only 2 endorsed Republican nominee Trump in 2016 (and one was owned by Sheldon Adelson).

But the truth? You can't handle the TRUTH! You reside in a world of illusion. You may criticize the media for blatantly promoting one national political party over another with their daily dose of broadcast propaganda, but you don't realize the bigger game of manipulation at-play, and you keep returning to their 24/7 feeding trough of "news" stories. You're a voluntary consumer slave to Big Corporate Media, and they know all the tricks to push your buttons.

Maybe you hated Hillary Clinton in 2016 with decades worth of valid reasons, but your only other major party alternative was a thrice-married, philandering, NYC real-estate/reality television personality with multiple business bankruptcies, who socialized with the likes of Bill Clinton and Jeffrey Epstein, and who started talking about running for President in the 1980's on the Oprah Winfrey show, and said she could be his Vice President.

YOU'VE BEEN PLAYED SUCKERS! ALL OF YOU.

  18. It isn't healthy for democracy if the media is controlled by a political party, which is the democrats in the current case. It is no different that state media in a dictatorship. They, democrats even what the government to control social media.

The democrats misrepresent (see adam schiff) the facts knowing that the media will give them a pass. It is destroying our country.

  21. The KC Star should print their BS on toilet paper, I would buy it and wipe my ass with it! They would sell a shit ton more print on ass wipe paper than they ever will in the form of a news paper. Their time is up, they need to admit it and move the fuck on!

  22. 11:46...the internet is where the truth goes to die.

  23. If the Star was more objective and less pink it might still be worth reading. Back the president no matter who it is, after all he's the leader and he won beeches.

  24. Of course he killed it. He kills everything he touches...the presidency, democracy, the constitution, the Kurds, the rule of law, etc...etc... so on and so forth....yadda yadda yadda...

  27. The Star is so desperate for subscribers they actually paid me to try the Star for 3 months with home delivery on Sunday and Wednesday. I noted that the local news was sorely lacking compared to the old Star. Apparently the Star has closed all its local bureaus. Moreover the political coverage was so biased that the Star would go out of its way to dig up or make up dirt on any Republican like the Democrats in Congress are doing to Trump. The final straw was when the Star missed delivery on 2 of the first 4 newspapers. I had enough and announced I would not renew.

    ReplyDelete
  28. If the star focused solely on keeping city hall accountable they might be on to something but instead they just slurp the local politicos buttholes and embarrass themselves. I can't think of the last thing the star was right about

    ReplyDelete
  29. weird, except the Democrats in Congress aren't making up dirt on Trump @9:50. See, the "dirt" generally comes from guys like William Taylor, who happens to be a 50 year government employee who served under both Republicans and Democrats, attended West Point, and served in Vietnam. Yet, here we are with dummys like you taking the word of a guy who lies everyday about some of the most mundane shit in addition to some whoppers.

Seriously, pull your head out of your fucking ass. Bitch about the Star and their slant coverage all you want (I mean, just don't read it). But give us a fucking break with this dirt bullshit on POTUS.
