KANSAS CITY BIKE/WALK SEYZ PRICEY PATHS WILL SAVE EAST SIDE?!?!

Time and time again our blog community has pointed out some conflicting and inconvenient facts regarding this brand of advocacy . . .

Very often, bike "enthusiasts" stridently push for public funding and then provide "consulting" services to accomplish those aims. Of course, we're certain their heart is pure and they're advocating for the greater good . . .

Nevertheless, the argument that cycling access is part of a movement will create urban renewal is questionable at best an also represents part of the same developer & gentrification schemes this town has endured for nearly a decade . . .

Bike/Walk KC: Bike paths aren’t just for cyclists

This isn’t simply a discussion of where crashes are happening . . . These crashes are part of a broader pattern of safe, accessible transportation isolation:

A map of US Census data shows that many parts of the East Side have more than 30% of households without an automobile. Like most maps of disparities and disinvestments in Kansas City, it’s easy to see where Troost Ave is located. The neighborhoods the Star is concerned about are the parts of our city that need more transportation options than most.

The discussion around bike paths should mimic the reality of bike paths: that they are part of a broader discussion of multimodal transportation, and that they mean safer streets for everyone in Kansas City.

You decide . . .

  4. Riding a bicycle in the urban core?
Even bus passengers put their lives on the line daily.
Do the people who propose this nonsense ever even leave the safety of their own homes?
    Hahahahahaha!!

  5. I'd love to ride a bike...but if I have neighbors in my apartment breaking in stealing my food, my medicine,, my clothes, let alone money. What mak s you think my bike would be safe? I would be. Replacing a bike just as much as I have to tras bags or coffee. This is a senior reality. Give me a safe home before a bike trail.. Paint me a safe home. Try one that's affordable. No, I , a senior and female here in KC am not feeling very safe. Don't want to get shot over a bike. No change till you make change.

  6. This bike lane crap needs to stop. We're Americans and we like our cars. If I wanted to live like an urban hipster, then I'd be in NYC.

  7. She would get raped if riding on the bike path, and the rape kit would never be processed. Who are you trying to kid? Crime is rampant. Forget bikers and bike lanes. 1 out of 10 drivers is impaired - do you want to get run over while on a bike? Trust me, nothing will happen to the driver that hits you - their attorney will just say you were outside the bike lane. Bike & die!

  8. I hate the bike boys. Simplistic thinkers spending lots of tax dollars, with density as their God.

  9. But but we have a gazillion dollar bus system that goes up and down the streets in the hood every ten minutes

  10. Lord have mercy please don’t ruin paseo with a bike path. Nobody but self anointed bike activists want them. People who actually get around town on a bike don’t want them. The stakeholders living in the area don’t want them. East sliders would rather see basic infrastructure, large item and litter remediation, police, sidewalks etc etc. And take care of the existing bike lanes before wasting tens of millions on new ones (most of the money sucked up by consultants and community development non profit hustlers anyway ). Seriously most streets and bike lanes haven't seen a street sweeper in years. This rant comes from a guy who rides to work every day and rides all over the city but what do I know I’m not a planning nitwit or a bike activist genius.
    Thanks,
    Radish

  11. I live on a street where there are bike lanes and they are 99% never used. It’s a waste of money. Two bycyclist I saw recently were riding down the sidewalk. It is just a waste of money. White people shouls stop telling Eastsiders what they need. Cash? Sure. Bike lanes? Doesn’t even top the 100 most needed.

  12. I was already raped at my old shitty apartment. Can't find decent safe affordable senior housing. Kit never processed. Pretty please with sugar on top, do your job, do the right thing. As always, nobody gives a damn and won't do nothing but give lip service and take care of the rich and screw the poor. Guess it was my fault for being an old dumb broad...smh.

  14. North Kansas City residents deal with Bike Lanes the way everyone should!
The dumbasses at NKC City Hall put in bike lanes in front of the Post Office, but everyone just ignores the street markings and parks in the (totally unused: bike lanes.

Bike/Walk KC will say anything to push their money grabbing agenda. KCMO has more pressing needs for the money Bike/Walk KC wants. Several needs have been expressed in the above posts. Getting Kelly and councilman Bunch to buy in on these pressing needs will be impossible because they are just after $$$ for their narrow minded agenda.

  17. This city council had best distance themselves from this BS. I think voters are on edge with all the drama going on these days and will likely take it out at the voter box in the next election. These bike paths are rarely used, impede traffic, are dangerous and certainly not worth the taxpayer funds it costs to install and maintain,
