TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! TOY TRAIN REVENGE!!! EMERGENCY ORDINANCE INTENDS TO FINANCE $185-MILLION KANSAS CITY STREETCAR EXTENSION!!!
There's one last slap in the face coming from City Hall amid a legacy of voter suppression and property tax gentrification along Kansas City's embattled streetcar line.
As always, the MOST AWESOME AND RESPECTED denizens of our blog community get first word:
TKC TIPSTER: "Mayor & Council end their term on a spending & borrowing spree"
Here's the damage . . .
Check the evidence FIRST on TKC;
Ordinance #190510: Stating the intent of the City Council to finance the streetcar system expansion project in an amount not to exceed $185,000,000.00; establishing Fund No. 3440, the Special Obligation Series 2020B Fund; estimating revenue and appropriating $9,100,000.00 in Fund 3440, the Special Obligation Series 2020B Fund; authorizing certain streetcar-related agreements; approving a plan of finance for the streetcar expansion; designating requisitioning authorities; authorizing the Director of Finance to close project accounts upon completion; declaring the intent of the City to reimburse itself from the bond proceeds for certain expenditures; and recognizing this ordinance as having an accelerated effective date.
What does it mean?
Notice the ordinance is unsigned and pushed forward after the election with little recourse offered to voters. This is the same way Mayor Sly passed the controversial convention hotel.
To wit . . .
STREETCAR SUPPORTERS SEEK HELP FROM CITY HALL TO FUND THE TOY TRAIN EXTENSION WITH A BIG MONEY REQUEST WITHOUT VOTER CONSENT!!!
This the end of the line for Mayor Sly following a questionable career championing development over neighborhood interest that has now been rejected by the local electorate with the defeat of his endorsed successor Jolie Justus.
Let's not forget that this angle basically admits there's no funding coming from the feds after the Trump administration has turned its back on streetcar projects across the nation.
More fun facts . . .
More than 50K voters rejected any streetcar expansion without CITYWIDE voter approval first.
This streetcar phase II plan was basically rejected by voters back in 2014 as well.
With CONSTANT FED FUND REJECTION, toy train supporters are BREAKING their promise and reaching directly into the pockets of KCMO taxpayers by way of bond financing.
Of course we'll get flack from this but an EPIC BOND ASK like this one basically represents a tax increase or, at the very least, an allocation of resources & credit that could be used in other places that, many believe, need more attention than this gilded streetcar line.
Finale . . .
More than anything, the fate of this sneaky, emergency streetcar cash grab reveal to voters if Mayor-Elect Quinton Lucas is serious about his effort to curb expensive real estate speculator freebies and listen to neighborhoods over Downtown hype.
Developing . . .
If Quinton Lucas supports this, then he betrayed everything he ran on and all the promises he made to voters.
ReplyDeleteThe real end of the line is the bankruptcy of Kansas City.
DeleteProperty taxes just went up another 200 percent. Momentum!
ReplyDeleteDitto for Jolie Justus, and every other member of the Council.
ReplyDeleteThis seems criminal to me.
ReplyDeleteMaybe, an unaffiliated lawyer could ask a judge to impose an injunction, & stop this.
Wow. A sham so obvious even a retard like Byron knows how bad it is.
DeleteWhat a shame for KC, Mayor James really wanted to give everything he could to this streetcar and he doomed Jolie Justus because of it.
ReplyDeleteVote No Quinton! Please!
ReplyDeleteAh that explains it no wonder our property tax assessments went up 450%
ReplyDeleteJust put it on the tab...............
ReplyDelete^^^^ LOL!
ReplyDeleteClassic Kansas City, this was illegal when Sly did it with the hotel and it should be illegal now. Hope the council has the courage to stand against it. Somehow, I think this they're going to use the same strategy they did last time. Old council blames it the old council and the gravy train keeps running.
Just meet the new boss.
ReplyDeleteSame as the old boss.
KCMO residents and voters are the suckers ONCE AGAIN!
Even any idea of "representative" government is a fantasy.
It never changes.
How many cops could you hire for $185,000,000? How many potholes could you fill?
ReplyDeleteIf this goes through, you can of course expect the price tag to hit $300,000,000
$200,000,000 would actually make a dent in the pothole inventory.
ReplyDeleteVindictive SLie gets in one last jab and screw job at the residents of KCMO for not electing, JoLie, his chosen one. The failed fair weather toy train was rejected once and SLie did not accept the will of the people. Now he tries to get funding without the consent of the people and they need to force city hall, by way of petition, to put this on the November city wide ballot. Apparently the county and SLie are in the same bed and managed to get the real estate taxes astronomically raised.
ReplyDeleteDo these pukes drive down the same streets I do in KC?
ReplyDeleteJesus!!!
Fix the fuckin streets, hire more cops.
Unbelievable ...
isn't this just the initial money that was already promised by the vote?
ReplyDeleteThis isn't additional money to cover the amount the Fed won't match. Is it?
If it is then this won't stand. How could the city just double the amount the TDD zone is on the hook for? If I lived in that district I'd be pissed.
KC residents are clueless. They don't even give a shit that the city is issuing the bonds on behalf of the TDD district. So we got that risk going for us.....which is nice.
Gotta keep that momentous momentum momenting!
ReplyDeleteSo I guess that TDD funding is running out.
ReplyDeleteQuinton the lying queer will see that this gets approved
ReplyDeleteI have told people to stop forwarding me posts from this blog but they insist on keeping the misdirection and cynicism of this "community" going and passing it around all through City Hall. It's amazing that people will believe negativity over so much that we have achieved. Millions of riders, rave reviews from people across the nation and ongoing support from the voters of Kansas City. This post says to me that people are afraid of the streetcar's progress. As for the voters that you cite I think you will find those those elections we're influenced by the same kind of people who ascribe to the tkc negative view of Kansas City. Voters missed a chance to keep the city's momentum going with Jolie Justus but I think this is a second chance to continue downtown progress and make sure that our city remains best in the Midwest.
ReplyDeleteYou lost GOPHER BOY. Deal with it.
Deletetaxpayer ripoff. Nothing less. Send it BACK.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Quinton will talk his way out of this one. That's what he does, he says one thing and doe another.
ReplyDelete"I think you will find those those elections we're influenced by the same kind of people who ascribe to the tkc negative view of Kansas City."
ReplyDeleteUmmmm. Are you saying the voters/taxpayers are too stupid to understand what they're voting for, gopher? That's rather insulting, don't you think?
Hey sQuinton, change the street name back to Paseo.
ReplyDeleteThis mayor and council should be held criminally responsible for doing this in the last 35 days of their tenure in city government. So now we get 185 million for a lousy streetcar and 400 million for bike lanes? Way to fuck the people of KCMO S'liar James.
ReplyDeleteIt is time to stop construction on the new KCI. We can't afford it. We can't afford to finance the NFL draft party in 2023. We can't afford to fix sewers in the Brookside/Waldo area. We can't afford to have a zoo, or fire department, or police force, or water department or trash pick up either. Time to file bankruptcy!
ReplyDeleteWill we still have the OPEN SPACES art festival this year?
ReplyDeleteI hope we still have the OPEN SPACES festival this fall.
ReplyDelete^^^ Sure we'll have Open Spaces this year, but the location will change to mesh better with the Momentum we have going on!
ReplyDeleteIt will be held in Oppenheimer Brothers Memorial Park at 12th & Walnut, Downtown.
After all. don't forget...
the lights are so much brighter there,
you can forget all your troubles
and forget all your cares,
if you're DOWNTOWN...
A picture is worth a thousand words. From day one, Sly James has been nothing more than a boob. Constantly clowning for the media and all about a good time with no grasp of reality whatsoever. Unbelievable that the fool was elected once, much less twice. It speaks volumes about KCMO, its residents and its priorities or lack thereof.
ReplyDelete"Voters missed a chance to keep the city's momentum going with Jolie Justus"
ReplyDeleteSour grapes much, gopher? Are you aware the voters and taxpayers are currently paying your salary? You might not want to antagonize them too much.
By the way, the election was not even close. Get over it.
The street car is for tourists! (its not a functional mode of transportation for KCMO residents period!) The creators, designers, and the politicians who made it happen thought it would make KC hip and cool! What would be hip and cool is, if there wasnt a homicide 3-5 nights a week, what would be hip and cool is, if there wasnt 75,000 evictions in KCMO last year, what would be hip and cool would be: if you could drive down a KCMO city street and not need a weekly alignment on your car due to potholes and street neglect! What would be hip and cool would be a 911 system that answers the phone in less than 10 minuets, What would be Hip and Cool would be a Fire department that opened their books to the citizens to prove they steal from the tax payers, what would be hip and cool would be a police department that actually took crime in this city seriously, what would be hip and cool would be a city of voters who are sick of the BULLSHIT in this city and hold all of the city govenment accountable, demand transparency in every move they make! That would be Hip And Cool, anything less is the joke that KCMO IS!!!
ReplyDeleteIt oils be hip and cool if you moved to St Joseph, faggot.
Delete9:24 can’t afford to live here anymore. Walmart cut his hours.
Delete11:02, you are a faggot that lives in St Joe who loves to rub oils on men? I guess if you werent drunk your post might have made some sense, enjoy your man booty faggot!
ReplyDelete11:14 - Whos hours? and what does Walmart have to do with it, if you live in KCMO you are a voter, if you dont vote I dont give a fuck what happens to you or yours, and if you are a voter and dont hold who you vote for accountable, the status of the city is on your shoulders!!!
ReplyDeleteThe mentallity of 11:02 and 11:14 is why Kansas City Missouri sucks as much as it does, a city full of retarded voters! I dont live in your shit town so I really could care less, but its sad to watch you sorry fuckers from the sidelines!!! Kansas City could be a great city if it wasnt full of morons and killers!!!
ReplyDelete11:25 You mean it could be a great city if it wasnt filled with corrupt city leaders and the voters who drink their kool aid and vote for them is what I think you meant!!!
ReplyDeleteAND NOW YOU KNOW WHY KC PROPERTY TAXES HAVE GONE SKY HIGH TO PAY FOR THE STREETCARS
ReplyDeleteGo4KC, it isn't about the "momentum" or keeping KC the biggest little town in the Midwest, its about VOTERS and we said NO and you jerks keep just ignoring the will of the voters. IT IS TIME TO RECALL OR VOTE AGAINST ANY INCUMBENT!!!!!
