TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! ELEVATORS AT JACKSON COUNTY COURTHOUSE FAIL BUT EXECUTIVE FRANK WHITE'S OFFICE REFUSES TO CALL KCFD FOR RESCUE!!!

Growing complaints about disrepair at the Jackson County Courthouse have put the Executive's office on the defensive.

More importantly . . .

INSIDERS WARN: MOST OF THE ELEVATORS AT THE JACKSON COUNTY COURTHOUSE ARE BROKEN AND SKETCHY!!! A FEW OF THEM HAVE STALLED BUT COUNTY OFFICIALS REFUSE TO CALL KCFD FOR RESCUE AND RISK AN OSHA COMPLAINT!!!

Unbeknownst to most office workers, every time the KCFD makes an elevator rescue call, they have to notice the local Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in order to document the incident. That documentation threatens put the County on the hook for a big money repair given so many recent problems.

It gets worse, here's the word according to Courthouse Insiders regarding a recent stall that left workers trapped for far too long.

"On Friday afternoon, the Jackson County Courthouse was down to one working elevator. Of course it stalled and the workers were stuck for two hours. Mobile phone reception inside the building is poor, so the employees were forced to wait on county maintenance staff for rescue rather than call first responders. KCFD could have helped and safely extracted these folks within minutes but the workers were discouraged from asking for outside help and instead were given ladder access to the next floor by maintenance. The situation was more precarious when the elevator slipped a couple of feet during the rescue . . ."

And now the political background . . .

"Team Frank doesn't have the money to fix the elevators because they have been too busy shifting around cash to fund staff. The Legislature is still cutting him off and so the majority of his time has been spent making sure his team is paid. Building maintenance has, obviously, been put on the back burner. We're talking about a really old structure here that needs constant repair . . . What we're seeing is a consequence of neglect and mismanagement from the Executive's office."

And so . . .

INSIDERS ADVOCATE FOR MORE ATTENTION TO WORKPLACE SAFETY AT THE JACKSON COUNTY COURTHOUSE!!!

The building has always been a bit of a death trap and the subject of some record-breaking lawsuits over the hazards present in the structure . . . Now, under the tenure of Exec Frank White it seems the situation is growing worse.

Developing . . .

    1. Welcome to the future, the elevators don't work. Property taxes are slow and incorrect. And the jail is still a mess. Looks like Frank can't maintain his own building, forget about his other job duties.

    2. City Hall is worse. The elevators are slow as hell and take at least 10 minutes to travel a few floors. Last week the lines were 10 deep and security doesn't like people taking the stairs.

  3. I can confirm this one for you T, only two out of six elevators working this morning. Feel sorry for court staff who have to slog it up the stairs today.

  6. Not sure I'm buying the OSHA reason. Anybody...ANYBODY can file an OSHA complaint. Current employee, past employees, the janitors, the lawyers, the general public there to conduct business, jurors, parents and teachers escorting kids on a field trip, anybody. If you see, hear or experience something unsafe you can report it to OSHA.

    And it's anonymous.

  8. Secrecy rules the courthouse. They need to shut the place down and get it fixed. Shame on management for letting the building get this bad.

You should also know that the smell of mold after the flooding in the basement is apparent. I'm sure that's a lot of misery waiting to happen too.

  20. My business is owed money for services provided in helping to clean up after the water main break back in February. The invoice is now at 54 days outstanding. I am being told Iwon't get [aid until the county insurance company pays on the claim. But I was told by the maintenance staff that I would be paid from their budget and they would get the money back from the insurance company. This is not fair to county vendors. So I have cut off credit to jackson County for any more purchases until this past due invoice is paid.

  21. Make the insurance company aware of this. Most at least all the ones I dealt with in the past require yearly inspection on all working elevators. Plus in Missouri the Missouri Elevator Safety Act be registered with the Division of Fire Safety and be inspected annually by a Missouri state licensed inspector. As part of the inspection process, each elevator must to be tested annually according to the A17.1 code by a person qualified to perform such tests and who is employed or under contract by the owner. This test shall be witnessed by the state licensed inspector. The rules are contained in the Missouri Elevator Safety Act, which was enacted in 1994 and placed statutory enforcement responsibility with the Division of Fire Safety, Office of the State Fire Marshal.
    Division of Fire Safety

    Jefferson City, MO 65101-4421
    Phone: (573) 526-3660
    Email: elevator@dfs.dps.mo.gov

Now everybody needs to start calling everyday and flood this office with complaints.

What caused the problem at the courthouse?
