Shawnee Mission families with unpaid lunch debt will face collection agency more often

Unpaid lunch balances have risen to $16,500 since Shawnee Mission started guaranteeing students a full meal at school, even when their accounts are empty. Board members will reconsider the policy in April. Following a sharp increase in unpaid lunch debt, the Shawnee Mission school board has tweaked its meal policy to hold parents more accountable.

  3. WTF SMSD? You start giving food away to kids that don't have lunch money and what did you expect? Once one group gets free stuff then those that have the money quit paying, they want free stuff too. Just like socialism. Isn't that what you are teaching in school? Sure seems like it.
    Also look at the role model the district is. Legislature offers you the money you've been suing to get and you decide it isn't enough. You are never satisfied. New luxury HQ's. All new school buildings. Teachers making super good money. And no matter what you give taxpayers the middle finger and say "That is not enough". Go screw yourselves.

  5. 8:55 makes to much sense. Will never happen. It did work for us when I was a kid. After 4th grade we made our own lunch, under Moms supervision.
