TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! SMALL AIRLINES REJECT KANSAS CITY NEW AIRPORT TERM SHEET!!! COMMITTEE MEETING CANCELLED AHEAD OF $90-MILLION EMERGENCY SHORT-TERM LOAN TALK AT CITY HALL!!!
Today City Hall responds to our TKC BLOG COMMUNITY FIRST NEWS about more financial difficulty at the new airport.
Here's the word . . .
We have received 5 eligible Signatory Airlines, who represent 76.9% of the gross landed weight, have executed the Term Sheet.
As you may recall, the minimum number of carriers needed are three (3) current Signatory Airlines who together comprise of at least 60% of landed weight.
Airlines who have executed the Term Sheet to date are:
1. Alaska
2. Delta
3. United
4. Southwest
5. UPS
Take a look at the list of airlines flying out of KCI and note the big difference.
SMALL AIRLINES HAVE REJECTED NEW KCI TERMS AND WON'T COMMIT TO THIS BAD DEAL THAT FAVORS BIGGER MORE EXPENSIVE AIRLINE BRANDS!!!
It gets worse . . .
AHEAD OF TOMORROW'S $90-MILLION SHORT TERM LOAN D-DAY . . . THE AIRPORT COMMITTEE IS SILENCED!!!
An important City Hall admission . . .
Reality . . .
This deal isn't want Kansas City voters were promised. KCMO is putting forward big bucks to give a competitive advantage to bigger airlines and ultimately push out smaller competitors who many believe are the future of the industry and provide cheaper fares for local travelers.
Developing . . .
Fix is in. Just have a drink with the pilots at the new bar.
ReplyDeleteJolie is landing this one for the big win. She's bringing it in hot. Get ready for big fun.
DeleteI guess it's nice to know how KCMo went broke. It'll be great for trivia when this deal if finally done and they start locking people up.
DeleteJolie Runs.
ReplyDeleteJolie Wins.
UPS?!?!? Where is American? I thought the new terminal came with a promise of NEW service, not losing the service we have before we even dig a hole!
ReplyDeleteMaybe UPS is there because soon that will be the only way we can airship ourselves somewhere.
Just got this post in my inbox and I have to say I'm disappointed in TKC yet again. This is a great day for Kansas City and something that we should be celebrating and not criticizing.
ReplyDeleteWhen we talk about the airport, we have to talk about stakeholders and who has the most invested in our future. It's not a bad thing that the smaller airlines don't like what we're doing. They come and go but if you look at the big guys, that's our future! And clearly they see KC is making progress.
The new airport shows us that we have momentum in our city and EVERYONE should be glad this project is moving forward.
Guess Sly called one of his consultants in New york.
Delete11:52 that’s funny right there! Hahahahaha!
ReplyDeleteThe Rock Island Trail and Airport both looking like the pathetic pork messes they are. When you don't start with integrity and talent, it doesn't get better.
ReplyDeleteSanders is in the slammer. Sly made a mess of things with Troy. Notice how our regional planning entity is hiding on the matters. How did they let this happen? And Johnson County, what must they think of this cluster.
Yes! It's the momentum! And of course the big guys! Celebrate! The stakeholders and vestors!
ReplyDeleteAnd the super models will be at the grand opening.
ReplyDeleteKCMO momentum has lost an engine and is in a downward spiral.
ReplyDeleteTKC should wear the fact that Go4KC is disappointed in TKC yet again as a badge of honor.
Didn’t we already give them 40 million? Now it’s 130 million total?
ReplyDeleteGo4KC keeps talking about "we". Must have a mouse in his pocket.
ReplyDeleteMore like a gerbil in his asshole.
DeleteWhy are we giving some of the wealthiest people on earth money again?
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I thought dummocucks where against these kinds of things?
Gopher Casey @11:52 since only the "Big Bois" are important what do TWA, Braniff and PanAm have to say about the "new (50 year old) KCI design"?
ReplyDeleteThey were okay with the original.
I have also heard a rumor that UPS is investigating maybe going to New Century Airport in Gardner to avoid this deal with Kansas City. Supposed to have been some talks about such. The runways would need to be lengthen but cheaper proposal than the KCI deal. Amazon also looking at New Century I hear through the grapevine.
ReplyDeleteSo they got three airlines that carry 60% of the load as required by law.
ReplyDeleteWhat's your fucking point, Tony? If any. Just trying and failing to make something out of nothing?
The major disagreement among the airlines has been the baggage system cost/division.
ReplyDeleteUPS is a cargo airline and doesn't even operate at the passenger terminal.
Maybe Klein should go back to the public works department where he came from.
There's plenty of work heading up the pothole fixing brigade.
Something he might at least know a little about.
And for @12:01 pm:
What does JoCo think about this? What do the 85% of residents of the entire metro who DON'T live in KCMO think about this?
KCMO is a nation-wide joke.
Total ripoff from day one with these buffoons in charge. Plus you don't make deals when your desperate to cover your own ass and mistakes.
ReplyDeleteSo much negativity is hard to believe if it was coming from any other group. KC is moving forward without you and I'm glad that none of you have much influence over this process that's made up of people who want to do the right thing.
ReplyDeleteSuck a dick, queer.
DeleteUPS has one, and occasionally two, cargo flights a day out of KCI and they do not use the terminal. They use to and may still offer de-icing services to specific airlines. If they did decide to go to IXD (New Century) the runways are adequate as they can land 747's and the huge air force carriers there, so no renovation needed. There would need to be hanger space available and converted to storage, mechanical and sorting space, not a big problem. UPS uses MD-11's and 767's to service the Kansas City and surrounding area. That would be a big win for the Johnson County airport authority.
ReplyDelete^^^ Ah I see lying, covering up, and ripping off citizens is doing the right thing okay.
ReplyDelete^^^^ hahahahaha!.......... hahahahahahaha!
ReplyDelete^^^ That was for GoferKC not 1:10
ReplyDeleteWhat we're really talking about here is progress and who is helping Kansas City move forward. What I see here is a lot of negativity a lot of people who may not live within our city limits contributing to unfair criticism of our leaders who are trying to do their very best. I am happy that the next mayor of Kansas City is going to be one who supports this airport project and who wants us to have the front door to our city look the best that it can possibly be.
ReplyDeleteFor those who criticize I just have one simple question: What have you done for Kansas City?
How have you helped push the city forward and keep the momentum that we have achieved with the streetcar the new hotel and now a new airport?
I can guess that the answer from most of you is that you opposed everything that Kansas City is doing to make this is the best destination in the United States.
Maybe you should consider moving somewhere else where you are happier.
But make no mistake the airport is a go. KC is on a roll. And we ar building a better future for our residents who have folded to support these projects.
Hope they're not paying you by the word. Or maybe you're charging for all of the talking points that you reuse. SHAME ON YOU!
DeleteI thought gopher at 11:52 was a parody, but he mentioned momentum, so I guess it's the real gopher.
ReplyDelete@1:20 PM
ReplyDeleteROFLMAO... You win the grand prize for Idiot of the Year
Idiot of the Year is being to kind and generous.
ReplyDelete@1:20PM For those who criticize I just have one simple question: What have you done for Kansas City?
ReplyDeleteA hell of a lot more then you have asshole
The longer this goes on the more I realize we don't need a new airport and this is just a product they're pushing because they feel like they need to build something...anything.
ReplyDeleteThis is the same reason we're on the hook for a $130 million streetcar to nowhere
I take exception with the statement that this deal isn't what KC voters were promised. There were many opposed who promised that this was EXACTLY what would happen if City Hall was given a blank check without a plan.
ReplyDelete@1:20 it's simple - this is my Home Town, and I am heartsick at watching the neglect and destruction that the City Government has wreaked on it under the Barnes and James Administrations.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to produce Progress, do maintenance to restore the livability of this City, and stop the destruction of the financial base that is needed to provide the services that the resident taxpayers (that you work for) need.
That is true progress, not the flash and glitter veneer that is being spread around like rouge on a fifty year old Streetwalker.
1:20 The drum beat from the city is new-for-the-sake-of-new and the cost will be paid by the airlines. The reality is frequent travelers are the ones that will pay higher costs (past on by the airlines), less convenient travel (there is nothing in the proposed design that suggests comparable curb to gate travel time), more high priced restaurants (that no one really wants to use because they don't want to spend time at the airport), and no promise of more direct flights to/from Kansas City. Most of us that use the airport are not KCMO voters and have very few outlets to express our opinion other than forums like this one. Hence, the negativity.
ReplyDeleteThe small carriers like Alegiant, Iceland, and others are offering the most innovative flights and will force the large carriers to compete on price/routes. Remember when United dominated DEN? Flights to/from that airport were outrageous. Denver residents complained and complained. Who changed the landscape at DEN? Frontier. Yep, the small upstart airline that saw an opportunity.
The only positive I can think of is parking closer to the terminal via the large parking garage (not clear if this will replace economy parking or be more high priced garage parking like the ones currently offered).
If the airport authority wants to do something innovative, propose an airport with the LEAST amount of time spent there (we don't want restaurants and shops - we want to get to the airport 30 min before our flight without any worries), the most economical pricing (is refurbishing our existing airport the least expensive alternative), and the most direct flights (incentivizing competition will hopefully open the door to small carriers that disrupt, and more people flying). Airlines make their routing decisions almost ENTIRELY on the basis of passenger numbers. Higher prices are actually going to deter some travelers from flying.
I think the foregone conclusion is we will end up with a bright shinny airport with higher ticket prices, a huge TSA line that will force us to get to the airport an hour earlier, and fewer flight options (little guys leave and we are stuck with whatever SW, Delta, etc. will offer us). Visitors will have the same comments about MCI - "wow that airport is far away, why did they build it out there? It took me forever to get downtown/JoCo" - KC native then says "but isn't it new and shinny?" - visitor says "I guess")
I STAY HERE AND BITCH CONSTANTLY, GO4KC. WHEN I'M NOT BITCHING, I'M COMPLAINING. WHEN I'M NOT COMPLAINING, I'M LAUNCHING YET ANOTHER HARANGUE. I AM UNABLE TO OFFER ANY SOLUTIONS OR ALTERNATIVES, NOR AM I WILLING TO RUN FOR OFFICE OR SUPPORT ANY CANDIDATES. I LIKE THINGS EXACTLY AS THEY WERE IN 1972.
ReplyDeleteSome of you negative people just aren't getting it.
ReplyDeleteThe people of our city have voted for a new airport. That is what they want and they are getting it as quickly as possible.
The rest of us know this is a great day for KC and very few people are actually complaining but they are trying to spoil what is a victory for city hall and our leadership. That should not happen and that is why I think it's necessary to bring some perspective to this blog.
^^^^ 12th & Oak must be scared about this deal.
ReplyDeleteWhat have we done for KC? The citizens have paid their sky high taxes and do not even get basic services in return. In reality you, Go4KC, do not get it.
ReplyDeleteedgemoore are like date rapists
ReplyDeleteI hear that with the new airport garage if you get a rooftop parking spot you and friends can tailgate until an hour before departure.
ReplyDelete^^ Go4KC Your point is a small % of KCMO voters (an even smaller % of the entire metro area) voted for a proposal. That proposal, a new airport appears to have been based on false information (i.e. more flights, no higher costs, etc.) and done before any organized opposition/questions could be addressed.
ReplyDelete2:50 was on point. The users of the airport are going to pay for it (how much we don't know). There are no promises of more flights. I totally understand 2:50's point about competition. If just 4 airlines are signing this proposal, what does that say about competition at the airport. Worst case scenario is Southwest Airlines and Delta are the only major players. We all know that ticket prices will go up and we will get stuck with a bunch of connecting flights to get anyplace.
A great day for Kansas City would have been announcing that fliers only need to get to the airport 20 minutes before their flight and direct flights from KC to London, Beijing, Buenos Aires, Dubai, and Paris. An overpriced TGI Fridays, fountain in the airport concourse, and more expensive tickets for the privilege of spending more time at the airport is not a great day for Kansas City.
1:20: "For those who criticize I just have one simple question: What have you done for Kansas City?"
ReplyDeleteI pay my taxes, gopher. I even voted for the library tax to make up for the money libraries have lost because of KC's stealing their revenue for TIFs, etc. Now, how about clearing the streets and fixing potholes?
And if what we have now is "leaders who are trying to do their very best," then please! Don't try so hard.
I just checked out Google Earth & I'm left wondering why you call this the Kansas City International Airport & why the citizens of Kansas City are essentially paying for some one else's airport in some one else's town.
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to build a new airport at taxpayer's expense then why not build it in Kansas City?
^^^^Will you just shut the fuck up with your stupid thoughts If you were from around here asshole you would know why. Man you're a fucking retard. No wonder Chet beat your ass a lot.
ReplyDeleteFire the city manager.
ReplyDeleteHey Byron ya asshole the airport is in the city limits so shut up jackass.
ReplyDelete^^^ Your just as stupid as Go4KC aren't you.
ReplyDeletewhat a scam.
ReplyDeleteNo loan, no thanks!
Welcome to Killa' City folks. We'll be arriving at our gate in just a few minutes, and hope you had a wonderful trip. Good luck and thanks for flying with us.
ReplyDelete2:50 appreciate your comments. Agree with every word, sir.
ReplyDeleteGo4kc is a self parody surely??
Thanks,
-radish
In October 2017, when still helping sell the new single terminal at KCI, the Kansas City Star ran a story headlined, “Kansas City Council ordinance makes doubly sure no taxpayer money goes to KCI.”
ReplyDeleteThis promise was instrumental in securing citizen approval of the new terminal a month after the Star celebrated the passage of the ordinance. “Will the City use general fund dollars to finance the new terminal?” asks the Kansas City Aviation Department on its FAQ page. The answer is one-word long and definitive. “No.”
See! Everything is on the up and up!

180862 (Sub.) Dear Go,
ReplyDeleteThe "people," and I use the term loosely, here are a tiny tiny minority of Kansas City residents. Some aren't at all: chuck lives in Prairie Village and Stupor Dave lives...ahh, who cares where his trailer park is.
The rest may live in the city but are easily misled by all the municipal finance experts here.
And Tony, of course, who considers it his job to mislead, for whatever misguided reason.
If they had better ideas, they'd share them or run for office themselves. But neither will ever happen. Easier to whine endlessly for their Golden Snowplows, you know?
The "silent majority" here looks on the airport as a good investment.
In other words, don't waste your time. It's like trying to reason with two year olds.
@6:29
ReplyDeleteRipping the people of KCMO off is a good investment?
@6:29 probably works for some recently created "non profit" basically reliant on the taxpayer trough to live high on the hog.
ReplyDeleteLike the Streetcar Authority (KCSA) as example.
6:29: Pretty sure Chuck lives in Waldo, by why let facts get in the way of a good narrative?
ReplyDelete1:20 Kc is not on a roll. Sure it not a stage set for what some say is gambling others say looting and others call renaissance.
ReplyDeleteIt is a big deal that smaller airlines will not use it. Brand neutral and adaptability.
Design-Build. They have given you a general idea of what it may or may not look like, but that is it, that is how much time has been spent on the building and site, instead far more time on massaging the team's momentum of whatever the hell happens. The building evolves after toss the ripple of no return. Stop mis-representing the project. There never needed to be a 'single terminal airport'. There never needed to be a 'new' airport. There has always been a need for a 'consolidated TSA checkpoint' prior to most of the shops and food. The proposed new airport is not a single terminal, it has a runway terminal, a roadway terminal, and demolishing existing terminals allows the mill of prefabricated big-box airports to become suspiciously expensive in a shorter period of time. Money does not need to be spent on building new terminals, new gates, or new waiting areas.
What ever happened to this deal?
ReplyDeleteEdgemoor commits to financing that will save $90M on KCI

^^^ Maybe it meant it will save them $90 million and us taxpayers will be on the hook for it to get this farce going.
