Amateur urban planners are celebrating plans for an EPIC County Club Plaza makeover at the expense of Johnson County and the details are titillating for the uninitiated.
The plan approved and headed toward the council for 2019 . . .
- Demolish the Capital Grille.
- Remove hundreds of spaces of parking.
- Tear town TKC's favorite space age KCMO tunnel.
- Most likely shut down or dramatically downsize the Cinemark Theater.
- Narrow Jefferson St. and slow down suburbanite cars that typically move at about 50 mph betwixt pedestrian traffic.
And so . . .

Here's the word from both our blog community and 12th & Oak watchers . . .
"It's not that tearing down the western edge of the Plaza is a bad idea. It's just that doing it for a fading retailer probably isn't going to work. Now if they said they were putting more mixed use office space in, that might be exciting. But with the economy looking tougher next year and more merchants & restaurants overall leaving the Plaza . . . All of this seems like bad theater for Nordstrom's to get a better deal oat Oak Park."
Of course we'll wait and see whilst listening to the hobo veteran play his makeshift electric guitar outside of this location.
