TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY LOW INCOME HOUSING 'RENT CONTROL' THREATENS LANDLORDS IN 2019!!!

Housing in Kansas City confronts a systemic change in the works for 2019 that could transform the local real estate game forever.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY PROPERTY OWNERS WARN VOTERS AGAINST 'RENT CONTROL' LEGISLATION UNDERWAY IN 2019!!!

Accordingly . . .

THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS 'AFFORDABLE HOUSING' EFFORT THREATEN THOUSANDS OF LOCAL SCUMBAGS AND SLUMLORDS!!!

Hence . . .

UPCOMING VOTES ENDANGER THE KCMO LOW INCOME HOUSING MARKET WITH HIGHLY POLITICIZED AND FAR-REACHING CITY HALL LEASING REGULATION!!!

We previewed this 2018 housing crisis hot mess that's only getting worse when as our blog community is now FIRST to present this local journalism breakthrough. A good portion of the effort is actually hidden in plain view in Councilman Scott Wagner's affordable housing tax along with the work of Councilman Quinton Lucas to establish a housing trust. Moreover, the response from middle-class Kansas City and pundits has been generally supportive -- Probably because they don't realize rent control does more harm than good, even on the low-end.

As always, we credit KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS for this tidbit which offers a glimpse at how candidates for Mayor are looking to please both po'folk and progressive voters with historic regulation that will push private property owners out of the real estate game.

Egro, here's the word . . .

"Kansas City has never seen anything as dangerous as the Housing Trust devised by Councilman Lucas or Councilman Wagner's Housing Sales Tax ordinance authorizing "affordable housing programming" which are both just clandestine attempts to mandate rent control for low income housing.

"In other cities Housing Trusts have imposed the same regulation which they've justified under "programming" language and it has bankrupted or forced a sale from anyone who owns smaller properties. Even worse, they know exactly what they're doing. They're basically putting all low income housing under government control and placing incredible restrictions on landlords.

"I don't own property but working with City Hall I can see the negative impact of these efforts will have upon KC because so many people have made their living through smaller, modest real estate and now that line of work will essentially be driven out of business in the name of "affordable housing" that is almost completely subsidized by the government. This is a devastating prospect and what troubles me even more is that the media is letting these efforts move forward without any questions."

And so . . .

MIDDLE-CLASS SUPPORT FOR KANSAS CITY 'AFFORDABLE HOUSING' THREATENS TO MAKE LIFE EVEN HARDER ON LOW END PROPERTY OWNERS CRITICS CLAIM!!!

In conclusion . . .

INSIDERS WARN THAT 'HOUSING EQUITY' RHETORIC ACTUALLY WORKS AGAINST NEIGHBORHOODS BY MANDATING QUESTIONABLE GOVERNMENT CONTROL!!!

In essence, this local push for a federal housing takeover abandons any hope of grassroots improvements by the community and puts the fate of the urban core housing in the hands of the Feds which is always a risky proposition.

There's still a lot to debate on this topic but our TKC blog community offers this BREAKING NEWS FIRST whilst other newsies present only the cleaned up version of how the KCMO housing crisis has been exploited by KCMO mayoral hopefuls.

  1. More government cheese. Who doesn't love that. It's the way of the world, not use fighting it. Maybe it will actually improve the local housing stock which is pretty damn skimpy.

    1. To a large extent, a lot of these regulations already exist and they're standard in other cities. The smaller renters sometimes need to be taken out of the game if we can improve the situation for lower income people.

    2. When you hear a mayoral candidate talk about affordable housing. They really just want socialism. THAT is the new reality TKC.

  5. What's galling is that Q & Wagner will just lie through their teeth when they talk about this. They both want a blank check with taxpayer funds and nobody wants to call them out on it because they have their politics right. Not voting for either one of the for mayor.

  6. Turning the the east side into one big housing project. That's what the city council wants to do next year.

  7. I hope that all of the Cordish developers and all of that so-called high end real estate speculators realize that their properties are next. Rent control has a funny way of getting out of control before people realize its negative impact.

  16. Affordable housing tax huh? City hall just finds anything they can to shake people down for change. Next up, a voting tax where you pay to vote. Hey how about a tax on trees in your yard to pay someone for remova of leaves who has a friend on city council. How about flush meters on your toilet to pay for a per flush tax to fund the billions for water projects. Tax tax tax more more more MLK MLK MLK more taxes! The kcmo general fund if the biggest teet of these people to suckle from.

Tax and handouts it’s the Kansas City shuffle of the city hall hustle. Go on quinton take a bow. You too mr mayor, go on with yo bad self.

Actually, if you take a good look at the "voting" public in KCMO you'll find that:
About a third of them have insider deals with city hall and vote to benefit themselves. Yet another tax is a small price to pay when you regularly get a nice payback or even employment from your vote.
A third have no clue about what's going on and rarely vote in city elections.
A third consists of people over 65 years old who think they fondly remember the good old days when they could take the streetcar to EBT downtown and think their city and the important people running it are just wonderful.
All the folks at 12th and Oak need to do is grease the skids for group number one and count on enough lapsed memory and nostalgia from group number three, and pretty much anything will pass.
And they will be elected and re-elected.
    It never changes.

  20. Just make sure of one thing. If you are ever around anyone on the current city council keep one hand on your wallet at all times.

  21. The landlords aren’t the problem, the city is making them look bad to institute a policy that allows them to take money from them, sLIE is an evil scam artist willing to sacrifice anybody for a dime

  22. If I was a slumlord in the ghetto, I would burn my property down and collect the insurance money before I would let the city government places their restrictions on me.

  23. KC council, making poverty even harder since 1991.

  24. @11:59, if you were a slumlord in the Ghetto, you'd be a Black Preacher, and wouldn't have to burn your own property down, just tell any member of your Congregation/Rent-A-Mob to do it for you.
