KU MED HOT SPOT TEACHABLE MOMENT: RAMPANT DEVELOPMENT THWARTED BY DEADLY VIOLENCE AND CRIME!!!
The past 48 hours have been the most deadly and dangerous in KU Med campus history.
A nearby 28-hour standoff concluded today wherein the administration and police worked diligently to achieve a media blackout.
And this morning a horrific murder/suicide sent bullets flying at the hospital entrance.
The narrative following the tragic day in KU Med history mostly focuses patient care, employee resolve and most of the hype that appears in their commercials.
Conservative Jack Cashill offers the most provocative perspective lamenting KU Med Center advocacy against gun rights.
However, here's a takeaway that impacts all of the metro in one way or another . . .
AS KU MED ENCROACHES ON SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOODS, THEIR BOOMING DEVELOPMENT HASN'T STOPPED INCREASING CRIME NEAR THEIR CAMPUS THAT HAS NOW RESULTED IN A HORRIFIC MURDER SCENE ON THEIR FRONT DOORSTEP!!!
From the streetcar to new hotels and even corporate campuses established in the Southland, we've seen the same scenario emerge throughout KCMO . . .
Development and economic hype hasn't helped cut down on the quotient of local crime and tragic fatalities that are more common than most realize.
Over the past few years the nearby 39th Street corridor has seen an uptick in assaults and biz robberies that they struggle to address. While the KU Med Center boom brings new money, it also provides fertile ground for real estate slap fighting and opportunistic criminals.
And so, deadly domestic drama today isn't an outlier but rather a symptom of development hype that still confronts the same problem as the rest of the KC Metro: Deadly crime at their front door which thwarts so much hype regarding so-called progress.
