TKC SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! COSTLY JACKSON COUNTY COMBAT FIGHT CONTINUES!!!

Nothing is final when it comes to local government and despite a debate spanning two years, the future of the largest Kansas City anti-crime program is still in question.

To wit . . .

THE FIGHT OVER JACKSON COUNTY COMBAT PERSISTS AND THREATENS TO COST TAXPAYERS EVEN MORE CASH!!!

Remember, at the outset of the month a judge finally gave the Prosecutor's office control of COMBAT.

This was a HUGE deal because COMBAT isn't just another balloon vigil effort. The Anti-Crime Sales Tax is akin to a branch of JaxCo government and it's funded to the tune of nearly 20-MILLION bucks every year.

To be fair to Team Frank, here's another look at their statement after the decision came down . . .

"THE COUNTY EXECUTIVE has said from the beginning, the most important issue is not who oversees COMBAT, but to ensure COMBAT achieves its mission of creating a strong, safe community. His concern and focus will remain on the unacceptable levels of violence and drug use in our community despite the amount of taxpayer dollars that have been spent to curb it. Regardless of this or any subsequent rulings, the County Executive will remain committed to doing everything in his power to address these truly life and death issues.”

Now . . .

JACKSON COUNTY INSIDERS WARN: TEAM FRANK PURSUING HIS COMBAT CASE COULD COST TAXPAYERS AT LEAST ANOTHER $100K ON A LOSING FIGHT!!!

The Exec said he would hold off comment on the COMBAT battle until he had "an opportunity to consult with the attorney’s hired by the County Counselor" but behind the scenes there's still more talk of audit hi-jinks among the Legislature, obstruction from key staffers and even really surprising talk like CALEB AS THE NEW COUNTY COUNSELOR?!?!?! WTF?!?!

Consider this post the FIRST word of more fighting on the way as the Courthouse remains in turmoil.

  1. Glad TKC wrote this one finally. When you look at combat, Frank White has defied the legislature, the prosecutor and now it looks like he's second guessing the judge. At some point he's just going to have to move on and understand that he lost this one.

    1. If voters were smart, they've find a way to end this tax once and for all.

    2. Just remember that while all this political garbage is going on, the jail is still costing Jackson County millions and the legislature is going to raise taxes by at last $50 a year on nearly every local home in order to make up the money.

  2. It just goes to show what lies are constantly coming out of the courthouse and White's mouth, as well as others.
WHO controls COMBAT's $20 million is ALL that's important to these folks, because it gives that person a huge slush fund to look after their friends, relatives, campaign contributors, the usual suspect grifters, and anyone else they think might be able to help them out.
$20 million spent year after year and the impact on either drugs or violence has been ZERO.
And there's so much money sloshing around that the program ends up funding picnics and yard signs because they just can't find enough ways to turn it into thin air.
A previous poster is right. This badly abused joke of a sales tax should be repealed.

  3. Most logical move would be to promote Vincent Ortega to lead the taxpayer funded Combat office.

  7. The county could throw $50 million at crime problems and it would have no affect unless the address the real problem @12:56 identified.

This is all a people problem and will not change until they solve the people problem but nobody wants to address this at the county and city level.

I installed two-way mirrors in his pad in Brentwood, and he come to the door in a dress.

  13. This is ridiculous. Another six figure$ to outside lawyers!!!! Frank White's pride is costing us too much. If he wants to waste his money, I don't care. But this is our money!!!! Does he owe these lawyers a favor like he owes Mike Sanders and Ken McClain?

  14. I've heard the Caleb Clifford becoming county counselor rumors. That alone will have me voting for that charter change. Steve Nixon should have been fired years ago. The only travesty worse than his still being county counselor is that Frank White would give it a moments thought to put Clifford in that position.

  15. Caleb has never practiced law. He’d be a disaster. He likes to pretend he got experience in the prosecutors office but his most important job was walking the therapy dog.

  16. @6:50, so you're saying he has better qualifications than Jean Peters Baker, right?
