TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! JACKSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE FRANK WHITE STAYS LOSING CONTROL OF COMBAT ANTI-DRUG TAX!!! PROSECUTOR JEAN PETERS BAKER TAKES CONTROL & PROMISES NEW DIRECTOR!!!

Exec Frank White loses an important Courthouse battle whilst all the bored weekend newsies struggle to come up with stupid baseball analogies.

More to the point . . .

EXEC FRANK WHITE SUFFERS AN IMPORTANT DEFEAT THAT WILL LEAVE HIS OFFICE WITH AN EVEN MORE LIMITED CAPACITY TO KEEP JOSTLING MONEY AROUND TO PAY FOR EXPENSIVE TRUCKS FOR STAFFERS!!!

Caleb's Chevy Colorado was probably one of the greatest signs that the Courthouse is mostly just a viper pit with no real hope of reform.

Again, just to fill in the blanks for those who don't know . . .

COMBAT is bigger than just an anti-violence program - The tax is budgeted at tens of millions of dollars and it's basically another branch of County government.

The debate on this effort has been one of the most bitter betwixt Exec White and the Legislature. Mean Jean had to publicly school the Exec on the judicial system as Team Frank persisted.

As charter changes loom . . . The power of the Exec office has dwindled even further with COMBAT going back to the Prosecutor's office . . . For better and worse, Frank White is becoming nothing more than a figurehead.

Last insult to injury . . .

Local crime and drugs continue to proliferate and none of these political games have helped to make local streets safer.

Here's the official word with a few TKC highlights . . .

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker's statement on judge's ruling on COMBAT

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker released today the following statement after a Jackson County judge late Friday ruled in a civil action involving the Jackson County Legislature and the Jackson County Executive regarding oversight of COMBAT.

From Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker:

I am pleased with the Court's ruling, placing COMBAT back under the Jackson County Prosecutor. I will begin immediately to undertake the work necessary to restore trust in this important tax.

A lack of certainty in recent months has been difficult for COMBAT administration, grantees and the public. But we welcome this ruling and anticipate more productive times ahead in achieving a crucial COMBAT mission, -- building a safer Jackson County for every resident.

I will oversee this program in a straightforward and transparent manner. My office has already undertaken the process of retaining a thorough financial audit of COMBAT funds and I have also requested a performance audit by the State Auditor of Missouri. She has agreed to make such an audit a priority.

Finally, I will initiate immediately the process to begin a search for a new Executive Director. The position has been vacant for more than a year. We will soon announce a selection committee to review and interview candidates, the first step in this process.

Ruling in COMBAT civil case

Update from the County Exec threatens a lawsuit:

“The County Executive will not be commenting on the latest decision regarding COMBAT until he has an opportunity to consult with the attorney’s hired by the County Counselor to handle this matter, which will likely be next week. However, as he has said from the beginning, the most important issue is not who oversees COMBAT, but to ensure COMBAT achieves its mission of creating a strong, safe community. His concern and focus will remain on the unacceptable levels of violence and drug use in our community despite the amount of taxpayer dollars that have been spent to curb it. Regardless of this or any subsequent rulings, the County Executive will remain committed to doing everything in his power to address these truly life and death issues.”

  1. What a mess.

Didn't think this thing would ever get decided but now that it's done. I can only hope that we can continue to get those consulting contracts out to the community so that we can all get paid to vote for the Midterms!

    2. Looks like the fall should be fun for Jackson County. You'll have another round of fights and more losses by Frank & co. He's really not good at this and still doesn't realize that he has to work with the legislature. Teamwork has always been his weakest attribute.

  2. Really just scratching the surface here TKC.

This thing can get way worse for Frank in a hurry.

Now jean is armed with the combat files and she'll see exactly what was happening there. With any luck we'll have a new executive by the end of the year.

  3. Just a brief request here, can the a$$hole who always talks about "petersucker" get a new frigging line already. He's been repeating that garbage for like three years. It's not that I'm offended by the insult, it's just lame and sad that the dude doesn't have anything better to do than troll a blog with the same dumbass insult. Live a little, branch out!

  7. With a search for a new "executive director" the usual suspect grifters are already mobilizing and Jean's phone is ringing off the hook.
Let's guess a fair number of the calls are coming from places of God.
COMBAT has been a ridiculous and completely unaccountable $20 million/year slush fund for many many years and there are lot of folks whose snouts have been in that trough the whole time.
Before any audits concern themselves with what's happened in the past, EVERY contract and expenditure CURRENTLY in place should be reviewed by an objective third-party.
And please have the guts to contrast actual performance with empty promises and cancel nonperforming "organizations".
COMBAT was supposed to address drug issues and treatment and a lot of the current criminal activity is caused by exactly that problem.
    No picnics.
    No yard signs.
    No town hall meetings.
If you just can't figure out a constructive way to spend all that money work with some actual agencies to get it where it can do some good.
The police would be a good start.
    The names may change.
The priorities and process will not.

Prisoners have not had a hot meal in over a year.

Since Tony has the facility to delete comments, he has, in fact, taken responsibility for all comments that are not deleted.

    So be it!

I don't think Tony should be calling this woman a Petersucker. It's childish & just makes men look stupid.

The "right" to call this woman names is not what the first amendment is about.

    1. ^^^^^^^^^ Bullshit.

John Adams constantly called George Washington a "Mutton Head" in print. It's a shame to think that today's politicians are so sensitive. The founders would puke if they could see us today.

But the county is so corrupt they don't have a leg to stand on and all of you county workers who troll this site have much bigger problems than what gets said on a blog.

  22. I think the Examiner does the best job of covering Jackson County. They don't update frequently but they do have very comprehensive articles that you don't see in The KC Star.

As for name calling against Jean, it is childish and stupid but it's not cyber-bullying. She is an elected official and she actually has a very thick skin about the petty stuff like that. She was served as a great prosecutor and helped to put a lot of criminals away.

What we see from the people who support Frank is desperation. Now that Jean has control of COMBAT, the Frank White is administration is going to be asked some questions about where the money went. I look forward to the answers and I think this blog might be around longer than Frank White as executive. Look how many people are on it late at night.

We need to hold our government accountable. They are using our tax money to finance insane stuff like trucks and so many legal bills. I think Jean will do a good job of cleaning up the county. She should have the support of every voter!
