TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! COUNCIL LADY ALISSIA CANADY ADVOCATES FOR POLICE BODY CAMERAS IN DEBATE WITH KCPD AFTER SOCIAL MEDIA RUCKUS OVER BRUTAL POLICE SLAP THAT NEVER HAPPENED!!!
In a tense discussion in today's public safety meeting, KCMO 5th District council member Alissia Canady shared her concerns with a representative from the KCPD.
While her initial response to the social media sensation wasn't exactly accurate given the subsequent video proved no contact was made . . . She offered another perspective on the incident.
Council Lady Canady: "The opportunity going forward is . . . We need to figure out how to get (police) body cams so that there's not a question. I want to be able to 100% stand behind an officer when they say, 'this is what happened." When I have a constituent that says something else happened, you have a discrepancy. And that video as we've seen in this instance is what really helps support the closest version of what really occurred at the time."
The KCPD rep answered:
"Yes, there is video everywhere. Everybody has a camera on their phone. This city is blanketed with cameras. A lot of that was voted on by you folks. When you're a police officer, there's a camera in your car and I know I'm constantly being recorded . . . They (officers) know that we're constantly on camera."
Accordingly . . .
WOULD BODY CAMERAS BRING MORE ACCOUNTABILITY TO DEBATES OVER THE USE OF POLICE FORCE???

Body cameras can be turned off and easily manipulated. In other cities where they have been in place, they are by no means the last word after a violent incident.

The guy didn't touch her and the reason she hasn't come forward is because she was drunk as a skunk and falling all over the place. It would be a shame for everyone in KC to lose a great deal of privacy because of some Westport drunk lady.
