TKC SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! DOWNTOWN ECONOMIC REALITY CHECK: KANSAS CITY HOMELESS RIOT INFERNO SHUTS DOWN BEARDSLEY ROAD FOR ONE YEAR!!!

The American economy is often subject to endless partisan culture war debate just like every other facet of our increasingly divisive and divided culture. And so we turn to the reality of local streets to offer an accurate depiction of local life beyond the blathering of partisan hacks.

Better than any other info, the latest news on a swath of land near the bustling & speculative downtown real estate development boom offers some insight into the overall financial state of Kansas City.

Checkit:

"Neighbors -- We are sharing information regarding our beloved Beardsley Road as reported at the Westside North KC neighborhood meeting -- Beardsly Road is actually a bridge structure not a traditional road.

Per Public Works, a very large tire fire on May 11th caused massive amounts of damage. Two to three beams, maybe more, plus concrete piers. City of KCMO is working with several groups to evaluate damage and from there develop cost analysis and a timeline to fix. Now for the really bad part -- They are anticipating the road will be closed for at least one year."

And so . . .

TKC SUNDAY REALITY CHECK: A HOMELESS RIOT HAS SHUT DOWN AN IMPORTANT KANSAS CITY PATHWAY NEAR DOWNTOWN FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS YEAR AND POSSIBLY UNTIL THE NEXT ELECTION!!!

Remember . .

Our blog community was the FIRST to break news of this tragic struggle impacting a local impoverished community that exists in the shadows of luxury living space subsidized by taxpayers.

To recap: It was A HOBO RIOT IN THE MIDST OF A RAID TO DRIVE OUT SQUATTERS FROM UNDER THE BEARDSLEY ROAD BRIDGE given a recent surge in criminal activity reported among its population. Accordingly, a lot of TKC READERS noted an influx in displaced hobos following the purge as they quickly settled into other parts of Midtown.

After our blog community put the topic on blast, local officials were forced to address the street closure and the sketchy circumstances surrounding its shut down.

However, only a few very brave news outlets dug deeper and offered CONFIRMATION of the desperate circumstances under the bridge which facilitated the shut down.

As always, we invite other perspectives but here's the real news for Kansas City denizens in and around the loop . . .

DESPERATE POVERTY REMAINS PERVASIVE NEAR DOWNTOWN AS THE NUMBER OF HOMELESS CONTINUES TO EXPLODE IN KANSAS CITY!!!

So far the unfortunate situation is only noted among the more attentive ranks of the middle-class because aggressive panhandling has become so pervasive.

In the meantime, crime, drugs and a multitude of uncomfortable interactions confront any resident of Downtown KCMO out for a causal stroll. What's worse is that neither City Hall nor local authorities have offered much in the way of solutions or even the willingness to confront a KANSAS CITY HOMELESS CRISIS that our TKC BLOG COMMUNITY has called out FIRST.

  1. I think homeless or TKC's "hobo" is too much of a blanket term. Drill down and what you'll see is a lot of addicted drug users along with people who have severe mental health issues and no place to go for help. Obviously, there's probably a lot of crossover among these communities. What's worse is that the homeless living under Beardsly road comprise only one of many camps near downtown. There are no less than half a dozen. And all the while we keep giving millions to companies with their hands out rather than working to make our streets safer.

    1. Most of the entertainment districts are becoming uninhabitable and unlivable because of the homeless. On weeknights they outnumber the patrons in some bars. KC is becoming homeless city.

    2. Would like to see some of the new candidates talk about this issue instead of promising more garbage that we don't need for tourists.

  2. I guess the library can only take so many.

    1. ^^^^^ Good point. I like that the library doesn't mind handling some of the burden but as a city we either need to start building more shelters or get serious about developing policies that move them out.

^^^^ I think the second part of your point is more accurate.

The more shelters we build, the more homeless we get. To stop the problem we're going to have to confront it and, unfortunately, TKC is correct, you can't do anything about the homeless situation until you acknowledge it. Most elected officials struggle to do that.

Vagrants, that's what they are. Used to house them in institutions but that didn't sit well with the liberals. So now they panhandle. They don't seem to want to help themselves why should I want to help them. Im robbed every two weeks (taxes) to help Society. Most of the bums I've seen are abled body, it won't be $50K a year but for heaven's sake, get a job, contribute to society. This City has so many "victims". It's bullshit.

  3. Actually, most KCMO elected officials don't struggle to address the homeless or other issues of importance to people who actually live and work in the city.
    They simply ignore them.
There's no campaign money or political careerism in addressing safe neighborhoods, reasonable utility bills, common sense planning and zoning, issues of homelessness, well-maintained streets, or most of the other issues that actually affect the quality of life in the city.
Why screw around with thing like this when there are foreign trips to be taken, developers to subsidize, ribbons to cut, airport projects to screw up, marches to run to the front of, and all the other antics that Sly and the gang try to make believe are what city government is about?
And the next round of "leadership" coming to 12th and Oak isn't a bit different.

  4. Beardsley is the most perfect homeless camp location in the city. No one lives nearby, it's a short commute to downtown, it has (had) a roof.
So they fucked it up all on their own.
It like burning your own neighborhood during a riot.
    Nothing ever changes.

  5. Homeless are bad bad news, this is evidence. Chaos and futility. I see on an average drive theres pan handlers everywhere in all parts. The large scale colonies are like mad max, waldos homeless colonies were pimping out young girls and ofcourse stealing everything in sight.

  6. road repair will take probably a year... everything in this town takes a year... incentive analysis report, new plans for airport, etc etc

  7. sLIE is putting it off on the new mayor, he can’t spend any of his developer money on a bridge that us commoners need to use, what were you people thinking?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I know that road well. When I would drive on it you can see the walking paths to the side to see where they come out of the woodwork. It was common to see six or seven of them sitting on the side of the road drinking or being intoxicated out of their mind on whatever drug. Yes yes not all are the same and there are probably a couple homeless whonare good people who fell on bad times. I would say not more than 10% if that are saveable.

The ones who burned the tires shutting down their own roof and habitable structure are the psychos you need to look out for. I’ll never forget how many rode the street car. Hell, one time the street car had to stop on main by Anton’s because one was having an overdose on something and the medics and police had to come carry him out off the street car.

Oh and the library...shit they have couches and chairs with TVs and headsets there. So they come and just watch cable news all day. Since many homeless are sex offenders they also have easy access to the internet there to shop online for victims, but the social justice warriors in KC will tell you that’s just diversity and progress.

They also linger at the river market district as their campground is close by the river but they are all about to be pushed out with the new development. No idea where they will go. I’ve volunteered before at weekend soup kitchens and it taught me many of these homeless guys are dickheads. They actually feel entitled.

At least KC is not as bad as San Francisco where they actually have a major problem with feces in the streets along with syringes laying around. If you don’t know about it look it up. Get this though, the same progressive mindset of SF is also in the minds of KCMO leadership and up and coming mayoral candidates. It’s sick and it’s a cancer upon our culture.

So if you are one of the bums sitting at the downtown library reading this post that set tires on fire....screw you. You should have jumped in the fire and stayed in it. Now the entire city has to reroute their travels because of you and your dickhead friends.

  10. All very good true statements and Slie definitely does not want to address the problem. Slie's agenda item is to drive the homeless, blight, and anything that stains downtown away from downtown. His hope is the downtown high wage earners do not have to deal with crime, drugs and a multitude of uncomfortable interactions while out for a causal stroll.
Slie wants to push the problem out on somebody else.

  11. There's too many homeless because mommy's safespace in the basement is no more for the bum brats. She got wise to the b.s. leech lifesyle/crap users coming around gobbling her groceries/no steady job/ protest marches instead of working/porch pirating her porch, and more!

The paid puppets and punks for Soros will be recruiting the desperate, un-domiciled for the POTUS event this week. Hey, they get a few Big Macs and get some drank to last a whole day and a half.

  12. Everybody is still wanting to meet somebody who cashed in Soro's bucks? Please post a video of a deposit receipt?

  13. That's the only thing I don't like about KC. You can't stop at ANY intersection during rush hour without at least three homeless people staring at you and asking for money. I feel sorry for them, honestly. But they are putting themselves in danger in traffic and making this city a lot less friendly for tourists.

  14. Stop calling them homeless. They're bums.

    ReplyDelete
  15. True, "hobo" is inaccurate.

    Please use "bum" or "homeless."

  16. They could be helped, but there is no political will to do so.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 5:49 You are stupid! They panhandle in front of dozens of stores with help wanted signs. NEVER give thin a penny!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hobos will be the army of the revolution.

We're just waiting for the tipping point.

    ReplyDelete
  19. There's 200 bridges in the metro with that much damage. Will they blame that on the homeless too?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Many of the homeless are not even from Kansas City. Many have mental issues requiring medicine and treatment. Some just want to do drugs and steal. No more handouts. We all know someone who lives check to check and they make it work and these people can also if they use existing social services.
