    1. Frank takes shot at Dennis Waits but shoots himself. Frank can't just say Waits might have lied on sworn statements and should be removed, without having to face the same consequences for having done the same thing himself.

I say toss them both out of office.

  2. Denny has been one of the smart and professional legislators over the years but he has been complicit and supportive of the Mike Sanders decade of corruption in Jackson County. This is a non story made to sensationalize and shouldn't taint his decades of public service BUT there is a little bit of satisfaction to see guys like this feel the hot lights of scrutiny. There is no doubt that without everyone stroking the Sanders ego, like Denny has done, Jackson County would be a much better place for many, many people.

  3. How is it a non story? He didn't pay his taxes and the form that said he did was not accurate. Many would be thrown out of office for that offense.

  4. If he was never qualified to run for office, he ought to be disqualified from serving. The question then becomes what happens to all the votes he has made while he was in the legislature? If he was the deciding vote on any question, it could get sticky.

Note that a good faith belief that he did not owe taxes is immaterial. If he owed taxes, knowingly or not, he was not qualified for the office.

    1. All of which is equally true of Mr. White.

  5. Those who don't pay their taxes are usually financial morons, you keep your funds for a few more months in exchange for 30% interest and penalties. Yet it appears that this legislator, our current county executive and our former county executive are all in that category. Those who can't handle their finances bounce from one crisis to the next, wasting money and time. And you can guess that those who can't handle their own finances will handle county finances the same way.

  6. @ 7:22 Last I checked 9 Legislators to zero voted to move COMBAT out from under Frank's control. Also, Dennis Waits' tax issues don't absolve Frank White of corruption. It doesn't excuse Frank's perjury when he filed to be a candidate, his stealing from the COMBAT fund, and his misappropriation of other county money. Nor does it answer the questions of who, going through Mike Sanders and Ken McClain, bailed Frank out when he was about to be foreclosed on, and how is Frank paying this mystery person back for this gift/bribe.

If Dennis Waits needs to go, then so does Frank White.

    1. I wonder if the lazy Star is ever going to follow up on that. What they ought to do is sit down with the county auditor and see how Frank and Caleb Clifford have been cooking the county's books.

  7. Citizens of Jackson County Missouri. You can not trust anyone running for office in your county. It is up to the state legislature to put some teeth into this affidavit and attach criminal penalties, I suggest making it a felony.
Then the State auditor needs to take this form and complete the due diligence of actually checking State, County and City records to see if it is correct before the person gets on the ballot.
I could see a shitstorm of legislators and county and city officials digging deep to pay immediately. However if they have signed the form and it is not correct they have already perjured themselves and should be removed from the election or seat immediately by the attorney general.
Play by the rules or get out. It is now no wonder that the Royals tried to distance themselves from Frank, shows who the bad guy actually is.

  8. Turn the Combat money over to the KCMO PD. Let's use it to get more police on the street. It's a sham the way it is now. A slush fund for grifters. Give the money to the place where it might do some good.

  9. I'm not defending anyone, but this story has major errors. The form says "state INCOME tax, personal property tax, real estate tax . . ."

The lien shown on tv was for WITHHOLDING tax, which is not a tax on Mr. Wait's income, but on someone else's income.

If they are going to complain that SOME tax was unpaid, fine, but to say the form he signed was wrong is clearly in error.

  10. 10:44 is right. Not defending Waits. But the statute clearly says INCOME tax. Withholding tax (which falls under the umbrella of a "trust fund tax") is not considered income tax- there is plenty of case law and IRS regulations that confirm this distinction.

This appears to be a major oversight by the legislature in passing the statute. As most would agree that withholding money from SOMEONE ELSE'S check and then not turning it over is far more egregious than not paying your OWN income tax.

Denny has worse worries. He has a buddy who collected all the JaxCo Parks Department revenue from the publicly-funded softball diamonds and who received large commissions on unbid contracts for county employee benefits.

Drunken Mike Hendricks knew about all this for years, but he got the occasional 5th of booze and Drunken Mike did not write about it. Now with an aggressive partner on the County Corruption desk, Mike might just have trouble sitting on the story.
