Kansas City police said the driver hit a pole and tried to run from the scene. Authorities said he was taken into custody on several traffic violations.

Jonathan R.G. Carpenter, the Drexel, Mo., police chief who arrested early Wednesday, is accused of pointing a loaded gun while he was intoxicated at his girlfriend's son and trying to avoid arrest, court records say. Carpenter, 39, was off duty when authorities say he got into an argument with the woman's son and pulled out a gun.

JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. -- Police agencies in Johnson County are taking a new approach to address a steady spike in the number of calls involving someone with mental health issues. "Tony Gonzalez is the greatest tight end in the history of the National Football League and one of the greatest Chiefs of all time," Hunt said.
