Brittany Green and Brett Kreikemeier brought their two dogs with them to visit relatives in Lee's Summit for the holidays. But the couple's 1-year-old lab mix, Daisy, ran away on Dec. 23 when they think a train spooked her and caused her to run off. "Every single night I was crying," Green said.

Along Ward Parkway near 60th Street, a small frozen pond serves as a makeshift ice skating rink as temperatures dance near and even below 0 degrees. "We were just playing on the ice having some fun," 10-year-old Henry Zwillenberg said. "We live right down the street so perfect spot," his brother Jackson said.
