TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! INTERCEPTED!!! KANSAS CITY SINGLE-TERMINAL CORPORATE CAMPAIGN: WHY A NEW AIRPORT MATTERS TO CERNER!!!

Thanks to AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS we've intercepted an important note from a top ranking local executive.

To wit . . .

CHECK THIS KANSAS CITY CAMPAIGN MEMO FROM TOP RANKING CERNER EXEC CLIFF TOUTING THE VIRTUES OF THE NEW SINGLE-TERMINAL AIRPORT THAT WILL BENEFIT HIS COMPANY!!!

Of course the corporate dude has the right to advocate for his interests but KCMO VOTERS SHOULDN'T BE EXPECTED TO PAY TO IMPROVE CERNER'S BOTTOM LINE.

Take a look at the memo and then consider the special interest politics and cowtown corporate oligarchy which CONTINUES to make the new airport proposal a questionable option for Kansas City voters.

Here's the text of the note transcribed to the best of our ability . . .

Why a new airport matters to Cerner

Fellow associates . . .

Earlier this week you received a message about a topic that is vitally important to both Cerner and the kansas City region’s continued growth . . . the construction of a new single terminal airport experience.

Our hundreds of associates who travel on a weekly basis are familiar with why we need a vastly better airport experience, and a new ‘front door’ to our region. Below are a few of the most compelling reasons:

- Cerner associates take more than 2,900 flights in and out of KCI every week, making Cerner on of the largest business users of the airport.

- Beyond the lack of amenities and dated experience that our frequent flyers experience every day, there are also structural limitation in the way the current airport is designed that prevent the airlines from expanding their service routes. For Cerner, this means our ability to get our associates out to client sites will continue to be limited by the current airport design. As Cerner continues to grow, this challenge will only get bigger.

- The current airport as built in the 1970s for a travel experience that is vastly different today. Post 9/11 security regulations forced the airport to improvise physical change that limit access to comfortable amenities once travelers are past their security checkpoints.

- The Kansas City Region’s ‘front door’ experience is sorely lacking for our clients, guests and potential associates who are coming into kansas City. For many, the airport terminal is the first impression they have of our our hometown.

- We pride ourselves in creating outstanding experience for our many Cerner guests, and that experience starts the moment they’re ‘wheels down’ in Kansas City. The current KCI experience doesn’t reflect the innovation, energy and culture that makes Kansas City such a great place to live, work and play.

- Most of Kansas City’s corporate and business community respect Cerner as a great example of the potential that our region holds to create new entrepreneurial enterprises that can grow our technology, science, manufacturing and service industries for the future. They are looking to Cerner for leadership on this key driver of the region’s future economic development and growth. We believe that the best way to lead is for the company and our associates to weigh in heavily in support of the new single terminal airport.

KCMO residents will have the opportunity to vote on this historic initiative on Tuesday, November 7. I encourage all of our associates to educate themselves about the ballot measure, and to vote for what you believe is in the best interests of Kansas City. Cerner will do its part to make it easy for you to get to the polls and cast your vote on November 7.

Thank you for your consideration of this very important issue. Please get back to your group executives or me with your questions or comments.

. . . cliff.

    1. Wrong. They've got a right too their freedom of speech too.

And in the end, the guy said to his employees, decide what you think is best for Kansas City. Face it, a lot of people don't like the old, ugly airport.

    2. Can somebody please tell me WTF is an "airport experience"? Is there some secret party going on at all of these new airports? Because I didn't know a airport was supposed to be a country club.

  3. Cerner and Obama Care go hand in hand T REXXING us up the ass.

Look, I get it that it is a KC Company, but fuck paying more for an airport we don't need, AND DON'T LIE TO US ABOUT HOW WE WONT PAY FOR IT!

  4. his letter is the most persuasive thing i've seen.

nevertheless, i think that a remodel which includes better or even deluxe bathrooms behind security would answer half of people's complaints. the bathroom shortage has been engineered by city hall, of course.

another part of people's complaints would be solved by putting a second story of restaurant and retail space on terminal b.

as for ceos wanting to show off shiny new airports to recruits, well, a remodel could include some shiny stuff too. how about lots of plugs sith usb chargers and super strong internet?

  7. I'd like to know Mr. Illig's reasoning in declaring that eliminating half of the loading gates available at the Airport will increase the Airline's capacities. Doesn't he remember that the existing KCI was able to deal with L-1011s when the Airlines were flying those? The few ideas we've seen so far sure don't have that capacity.

And if he thinks KCI is "dungeon-like", have one of your flunkies make a call to City Hall and tell them to get on the Aviation Department's ass to get some of the "deferred" (ignored) maintenance done! You can afford to get action from City Hall, the rest of us cannot!

And are you folks really surprised that Cerner wants taxpayers to pay for something that benefits them? They've gotten three different Cities in the area to finance new Headquarters Buildings for the "billions and billions" of jobs they will be bringing to those towns. Now that the Pattersons are gone, how long do you think Cerner will last before being peddled off to someone else?

KCMO, KCKS, NKC - brace yourselves for the sound of air rushing into th place where Cerner used to be!

Perhaps a new airport is needed. But what we see here is hogs running to the slop trough to eat their fill at the taxpayer's expense.

"Won't cost the taxpayers a dime", is as baldfaced a lie as I've ever seen. I've seen the Mayor of Philadelpia 'splain why it was necessary to drop a bomb from a copter on a middle-class, black&white neighborhood.

This is just another bomb dropped on the middle-class. What's left of it anyway.

  9. Cities decide how to attract businesses to locate within their boundaries in one of two principal ways: there is the method of the old cities, the cities of the rust belt. That method entails taxing the hell out of residents and local business and then using the loot to buy the loyalty of a select few. The risks can be great. Sometimes businesses don't stay bought. Sometimes they fail.

The second method became popular in the South. With a small tax base from which to plunder, southern cities were forced to get creative. Instead of robbing the many to provide for the few, they reduced Costs and regulatory red tape for everyone. This model drove business to the South in record numbers. Unfortunately, much of the South took those early successes and tried to move to the rust belt model -- a model that benefits politically connected businesses.

You cannot blame Cerner from playing the game. They reside in a rust belt town.

  11. I find it hard to value the opinion of a company that has received the largest TIF package in history. While I appreciate the workforce you employ, you are NOT a civic partner and therefore you should have no voice in the matter. Just sit back and enjoy the infrastructure and services that the hard working taxpayers of Kansas City provide.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hey Cliff, if you don't like our airport, give back all the TIF money and move Cerner somewhere that has an airport that meets your standards, cocksucker. Take your faggot soccer team with you.

  17. Cliff, your fine letter deserves a response. There are many who agree with your contention that Kansas City could use a fresh, improved face to the world. Be that a new facility, or an upgrade, it would be good to have our alternatives well considered.

If your firm had a department conducting its affairs like the city executed on the airport, we are pretty sure they would no longer work at Cerner. This is not an issue in isolation, it is a pattern of arrogant slam fixes, worked behind the scenes and in private, never mind the public interest in options and alternatives, and the general notion of fair play and square deals.

We understand Burns and Mac has been a long term running partner to Cerner. You must understand we did not like their methods or those of their front men in pursuing the billion dollar plus fix.

You will get an improved airport, but proceeding on a fast track with the same team (the leadership of Kansas City Missouri) that is disqualified in the public's perspective is not in accord with the feelings of the public. Frankly the public is tired of corporate slam jobs, airport, streetcar. As you have entered the public octagon, and encouraged your people to vote, what are you voting on?, we are voting on integrity in governance, the right to see options and deliberately consider the issue, the importance of having the actual plan and design in clarity (we are pretty sure you wouldn't give the green light on building a building without understanding pretty much what you are getting).

Kansas City knows there will be improvements or a new terminal, but the way this was rushed, pretended to be an emergency, played behind the scenes to the tune of a billion dollars plus, it sits poorly with the public. These are not fringe views, if you watched Steve Rose or Ruckus or Crosby Kemper Junior evaluate the situation their views were pretty much all in alignment, this was a fix, and the public hates it.

We thank Cerner for good integrity in governance, we expect the same integrity in the governance of our city and we have not seen it, a lot of parties have been diminished by events, and the Streetcar is coming along soon with many of the same issues. If you want to meet in person to discuss and forge a positive process, besides a bunch of front lawyers out of their depth rushing things through, then we would look forward to that.

Restoring integrity and good judgement is more important to us right now than rushing the airport without clarification.

Thank you for your letter, we listened to your views, we would like our perspective considered also. We hope Cerner takes a higher profile leadership role in our City.

  18. It's not innovative to build a single terminal like everyone else. What would be truly innovative would be a renovation plan that accomplishes the goals while keeping the unique accessibility and convenience we have now. Frankly the single terminal plan goes along with Sly's penis envy of other cities. Never has a KC mayor worn his inadequacies on his sleeve like Mayor Frosty.

  19. TKC, congratulations on upping your blog with serious, thoughtful commentary.

We don't like some of the unfiltered comments that often come through, but this thread is an example of worthwhile civil duscussion.

    Bravo!

  20. " structural limitation in the way the current airport is designed that prevent the airlines from expanding their service routes."

How the fuck are airlines to expand their service routes when the new terminal design REDUCES THE NUMBER OF GATES BY HALF? Do you think your "Associates" will just follow your idiotic directives? Good grief what an ass!

  21. 11:22, thanks for your cogent comment. The question of a new airport vs. an updated airport has been presented to the public by the city in a consistently dishonest and highhanded manner. It is frankly the same type of dishonesty that the city uses with respect to all big ticket elections. One gets the distinct impression that we taxpaying citizens are just the city's human ATM machines.

  22. At least half you need to understand that Cerner would pay the most money because they are the biggest users of the airport. So Illig is saying to his own employees, we are willing to pay more for a better experience for our own people and clients ... meanwhile he thinks it's in best economic interests of Kansas City. That sounds pretty rational to me...

  23. I agree with 9:55. He's right!

  24. Now that Brownback has fled the country Johnson County should build an airport on the Kansas side.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Actually, 12:29pm, I think reports show that Fort Leavenworth personnel are the heaviest users of the airport.
In any event, even the folks who use the facility most often are still a small minority of the total.
Illig's just trying to be another member of the "me too" crowd.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Highly paid Cerner employees might welcome a new glitzy airport and the company can afford to pay. But there are many citizens who also use the airport and they will be asked to pay with increased airfares.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Open Pod "A" that will relieve the crowding. Put in some new baggage handling equipment and build a few bathrooms on the departure side. Fixed. Oh yea tell the big boys to bring their own liquor, that is actually what this is all about. More space to lease to bars.

  28. Gray Back says, Kansas City is a class "C" airport. About the same level as a bus station. You're not "International"! You have no Customs Office or plant inspection. You assholes need a tent set up with foot basins and prayer rugs. Who the fuck goes to Kansas City except to get shot. In a black run city what white person wants to hang out in an airport, except to snag a quick BJ from a fat lipped blue gum during layovers.
Who the fuck can afford to fly except airline employees and corporations.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Cerner, it is your software that sells your progress, not the airport. Think of it this way, if we had a brand new and shiny airport, would that be the one thing that pushes you over the finish line? Nope.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm betting that Cerner will no longer be around in 2-5 years. They will either be bought out or just disappear. There is no guarantee that this one company will survive the next round of takeovers. With their fearless leader (Patterson) gone to that great office in the sky, I'm betting that the company will pick up and leave the metro area for greener pastures. That is, if they aren't bought out first. Any takers on this bet?
