Kansas City Mayor Sly James Style Over Substance?!?! Will Neighborhood Outreach Curb Homicide Spike 2017?!?!
Mayor Sly James spent yesterday afternoon knocking on doors and talking to South Kansas City about crime and killings on a nearby trail. This was a welcomed and brief respite from his ongoing development agenda that has consistently given legislative priority to the Downtown Hotel, The Streetcar Extension And The New Single-Terminal Airport -- All items that have the weight of ordinances backing them up whilst yesterday's stroll was only backed by TV news cameras.
But rather than rage on City Hall legislation that very few people understand . . . Let's put the question to our blog community . . .
GIVEN CITY HALL DEVELOPMENT AGENDA PRIORITIES: IS MAYOR SLY'S STROLL AGAINST CRIME JUST ANOTHER PUBLICITY STUNT OR WILL IT HELP CURB SO MANY LOCAL KILLINGS???
The afternoon anti-crime walk raises more questions than answers . . . Is this the new plan? How will it help? And is public info about crime valuable without legislative action to back it up???
To be fair, a recent park curfew signals some effort to take a spate of local murders seriously but it seems that the measure was mostly window-dressing aimed at hassling hobos in front of City Hall not the Southland.
And the reality is that the real debate this week is about the airport and everything else is just a warm up to a battle over BILLIONS worth of revenue.

You decide . . .
OF COURSE it's just a publicity stunt. If Sly were serious he would be talking about putting more police on the streets and putting pressure on judges to hand out tougher sentences. But he's not, he's just putting himself on the news to make it seem like he cares about crime. Nothing substantial, no new plan, just more cheap talk.
ReplyDeleteIt's the power of positive thinking, it's the power to have charisma work to your advantage in every circumstance. Let the public look at this sideshow and think the mayor is serious. In the meantime, it's all about paying back donors and recruiting new ones. That is the Kansas City shuffle, misdirection and then attack.
DeleteAt least Sly is doing something now, if we're going to have 150 murders in Kansas City I at least want to know that the Mayor is out there talking to people about it. It may not be much but it's a good place to start.
DeleteNo. This late to the party charm offensive does absolutely nothing. Wake me up when this obese ambulance chaser does anything but dance on his strings.
DeleteI appreciate the mayor, he is doing the right thing here. @4:58 Dean has it right. The scene of the Indian Creek Trail killings is the best place to start and at least it shows him working with police which is different and better than last year.
ReplyDeleteI hope we have a very violent July 4th weekend. I would like to be near 80 by next Wednesday. May lots of thugs kill each other then next several days. We need more vigils.
ReplyDeleteLike a good lawyer, Tony asks a question that he already knows the answer to.
ReplyDeleteFuck no it won't help.
Just flat-out running outta shit to run up the flagpole, huh,Botello .
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteIt's nice the mayor is showing some concern, but this is his job to clean up the crime in the city, it seems he is all talk, there needs to be some action.
I really don't think he is qualified to run the city, and cutting police was a huge mistake.
Charisma? Style?
ReplyDeleteSly?
You have to be joking.
More like self-serving D-list celebrity baloney and television face time at the hands of the usual clueless local "reporter" hacks.
If Sly wants to visit neighborhoods where the great majority of the KCMO murders are taking place, he should head accompany the cops in East Patrol at 2:00am on a Saturday night and head for College Avenue and Benton Boulevard.
No television crews or reporters.
No press releases.
This is worse than a stunt. It's an insult to the families of the people who have been murdered on the trail and even more for the families of the 60+ victims of all the other KCMO homicides so far this year.
And all for the ego and ambition of one person.
And all the trail victims were white, so it's surprising the revs and the other usual east side suspects aren't already out protesting.
What a sad excuse for a city government.
How nice of Burns & McDouch to loan us their yard ape for a while
ReplyDeleteAnd now ladies and gentlemen, back by popular demand....the amazing and charismatic MR. SLIE JAMES!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHe's still working thanks to the smiling and backstabbing KCMO populace.
ReplyDeleteIt is all show. Yes the murders along the Indian Creek Trail are tragic but all the murders are tragic. The Mayor's economic policies of just focusing on downtown are the root cause. Check the zip codes of most murders, is the city focusing on economic development in those areas?
ReplyDeleteAll Murders Matter
ReplyDelete6:52 the murders along Indian Creek Trail are not just "Tragic". They are premeditated, black on white hate crimes, inspired by the inflammatory and incendiary rhetoric, movies, lies, exaggerations, half truths and demonization of whites, by the Main Stream Media, Hollywood, politicians, "Community Activists", "Resisters", College Professors, late night talk show comedians and especially Progressives.
ReplyDeleteWeez zhowin da public da mayorz got hiz zhit togedder. He'z out dere sayin'
ReplyDeleteHey folkz howz ya doin mez Sly Jamez da bezt Mayor in da univerze, n not only day i'z world clazz too!
6:30 & 7:18 you're both correct
ReplyDeleteWhat a fraud Sly is to walk door tot door with cameras and then report no one has any fear regarding the killings on the trail. What a lie! When both members of the association report concern and fear from the locals regarding the killings.
What facts regarding the murders of these white men along the trail are the police hiding from the taxpayers of KC? Is this a hate crime? It appears white men were the targets.
Why lie Sly?

Hey chuck...you better run...the MSM and the progressive left is coming, and you know there is nothing you can do when the whip comes down.
ReplyDeleteBlah. Blah. Yackety yak. Ooooooh, soooooo booooooring.
DeleteMayor James is taking a play out of the Governor's playbook
ReplyDeleteTKC is simply highlighting the politico/media partnership which is a PR Circus!
ReplyDeleteJames is a corrupt crony capitalist who absentmindedly forgot about things as basic as public safety and municipal infrastructure while desperately working to enrich his corporate backers.
One of his bloated staff consultants likely suggested the need to fabricate some positive PR, thus they call the colluding compliant local media to stage a door-to-door walking campaign.
Remember, this is the same guy who just got back from Miami the other day. What was he doing in Miami? Not paying attention to KCMO while a few more residents got killed, and a few more water mains erupted...that's what!
KC should hire a professional independent City Manager, eliminate the Mayor's position, and concentrate on basic city services.
Call 321-2277 anytime night or day.
ReplyDeleteChuck Hater talking shit again. Yawn.
ReplyDeleteYou can not stop homicides in KC until you stop nurturing the mindset that has murder as an acceptable solution to conflict. The huge percentage of these murders are about ginned up or cracked up ass holes that don't like how their cousins look at thier daughters, over who owes who what or some shit that happened over someone hogging the white meat in a bucket of chicken. When you have an entire political party pandering to the culture and attitude that encourages folks not to assimilate into a civil society you are going to have problems. When you make excuses for thug behavior you are gong to have crime. When you put convicted criminals in prisons and then bitch and whine that to many criminals of such and such ethnic group are in jail you solve nothing. When you honestly believe that you reduce crime by walking around with your thumbs up your ass and knocking on doors like the fucking Welcome Wagon you are fucking nuts!
ReplyDeletePR and snow jobs do not resolve culturally embedded conduct that is rewarded day in and day out by those who don't grasp the grave error in ignoring unacceptable behaviors and calling it an acceptable ethnic difference. It is time for people to either meet the minimum standards of humanity or pay the damn price.
Wow! The troof^^ 10:01!
ReplyDeleteDecent peeps of all stripes concur.
Peace the F--K out!
10:01 hit the nail on the head.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should push pause on the Quentin Lucas for mayor train. We just had a BigLaw mayor and does anyone think he did that great of a job?
ReplyDeleteMaybe it is time for someone who did something else. Say what you will about the Funk but at least he brought in a unique skillset. James seems to be only about rewarding the large clients who gave him billable hours.
Put that yard ape in a tree at the killing parks. Birds eye view. Maybe though him a couple banana's and wait for the killer to come into the park. He can scare him off with his bullhorn.
ReplyDeleteWorst KC mayor ever.
