Amid a recent spate of homicides on local trails and a woman butchered and dead in her car at Waldo Park, MSM reported that the new KCMO Summer curfew was a response to this uptick in violence.
Not really.
Here's a passage from a memo sent our way which sheds light on the real motivations of Mayor & Council . . .
“The FAA like their building and they want to stay downtown,” the report claimed, “but they are concerned about the homeless encampment in Ilus Davis Park, currently in Kansas City it is not illegal to sleep overnight in the park.”
Accordingly . . .
THE KANSAS CITY PARKS & TRAILS CURFEW IS MOSTLY FOCUSED ON KICKING THE SLEEPING HOBOS OUT OF DOWNTOWN AND THAT'S THE ONLY REAL ENFORCEMENT THAT 12TH & OAK WILL PROVIDE!!!
Law enforcement insiders confirm that the first move following the legislation was downtown cleanup and not any additional protection at KCMO parks or trails beyond the uptick in patrols after a spate of Indian Creek Trail murders.
And so . . .
This move is exceptionally cruel given that City Hall doesn't provide any additional capacity to shelters with this crackdown.
And . . . This crackdown confirms our contention that the homeless crisis inside the loop and throughout Midtown continues to worsen.

have to be fair to the council and the mayor. These folks are very dangerous and they make a nice park seem like a wasteland. I agree there should be more shelter capacity but not in a public park.

ReplyDeleteThat park is a mess. Defecation, prostitution and drugs constantly in public. They harass women walking by and nothing is done about it. Every once and a while they hose it down, but they all come back minutes later.

Most are not from Missouri. A census is needed on who is here from where. Prison release? Surveys on that? Drug Addicts? Helping before homelessness. How bad is heroin?

ReplyDeleteI agree with 6:03. Find out who they really are and where they come from. Been to Lawrence Kansas lately? They have as many homeless as kcmo. They are real blunt about asking for money. I don't even go there anymore. It sucks when you can't walk down Mass. Without getting hit up for money 3 or 4 times by them. Lawrence sucks.

DeleteReal talk: I was homeless for a while but I was luckier than most I had a car. I would park my car indifferent Walmart parking lots and that's where I'd sleep for the night. I found it a lot safer then trying to sleep at Park at a park and sleep or just about anywhere else. That was a bad bad time in my life I'm on my feet now. I just want everyone to know that easier than you think to become homeless all I had to do was get sick. Don't have any family. And once you go down man keep going down faster and faster and faster cuz you don't have any money. And when you don't have any money family or friends and you're sick.
