CELEBRATE!!! KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR RIDERSHIP NUMBERS SPRING FORWARD FOLLOWING WINTER PLUNGE!!!

Boasting from toy train advocates deserves a bit of skepticism . . .

KCStreetcar: March #kcstreetcar ridership numbers are in...a 46% increase from Feb. #RideKC

The streetcar claims 183,005 ryders in March 2017 by way of their counting methodology that has been widely criticized given that UNLIKELY local data outpaces bigger, better places like Seattle, Washington D.C. and Dallas.

Still . . .

THE BIG 12 FAILED TO BOOST THE KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR NUMBERS PAST LAST YEAR'S HIGHS!!!

The highlight of the streetcar in 2016 . . .

Total Ridership for August 2016 - 204,251
Total Ridership for July 2016 - 233,683

And so, one of the biggest crowds Kansas City will see this year mostly avoided the streetcar and didn't enjoy new connections to Union Station or the City Market as much as Summer crowds last year celebrated the novelty of the ride.

Sadly, so far only TKC and our blog community has offered critical analysis of these local facts while the rest of MSM is content to cheer on this effort that's earning consistently lower returns despite a great deal of hype.

  1. Everyone expected the winter drop off but they didn't think it would be that bad.

January was even worse, if I was with the streetcar I wouldn't have focused on the February numbers because of the warmer weather.

When it was really cold, we didn't really need a streetcar.

  2. If you really believe their numbers.

  3. "When it was really cold, we didn't really need a streetcar."

Ummmm. When do we ever, given the fact we have the MAX, ever really "need a streetcar?"

  5. 8:11, how does that affect your bowling?

  6. Kansas City needs a streetcar like a fish needs a bicycle.

  7. Remember Super Dave said it was a scam, by the way, what's our number of visitors this year to KC, 30 million?

  8. Hipsters need their streetcar. They're too good to ride the Max bus.

  9. Big 12 games and NCAA Regional games.

  10. KC Streetcar = Total scam.

Those numbers are nothing but fakery. We're don't have more people than Seattle's line.

  11. I think that some time should be put into checking on some of the other cities and their ratios of bus to rail riders. visitor to citizen use and even destinations. I think that there are, some glaring inconsistencies in rider statistics. It is fun but it is also under mining some other very needed projects.

  12. My friend and I were laughing about the number of visitors claimed by City Hall, and we wonder about their sources. Say that we get 24 million visitors a year - that's 2 million per month, or 64.500 per day. Really? Really? Has anyone noticed this huge number milling around downtown or the Plaza? Me neither.

  13. If th NBA had done whatever KC wanted and sent us a pro ball team we would be able to pack that toy train. I know it doesn't make any sense, but that is how KC logic works!!! If you think I'm bullshtting just wait until you try to make sense out of today's vote.

  14. If you believe any number about anything that comes out of City Hall, you must be one stupid motherfucker. Sure, more trolley riders than Seattle. More tourists than Paris. The grifters are riding that pony all the way to the fucking bank.

What's the main characteristic of downtown Kansas City on a weekday during business hours? There's nobody there. You might have to drive six blocks to count 30 people on the sidewalks.

  15. This town had an NBA team. They left because of lack of interest. That was when tickets were "affordable".

This town won't pay for the NBA.

  16. I dare to ask what the vision of Kansas City's future is on the comment board. It looks like everyone hates everything. So what SHOULD be done if you were in charge?
How would you build tax revenues? How do you attract talent from around the world? How do you build in sustainability and resiliency into the city?
Better yet, what are 3 things the city should do to make it a vibrant metropolis?

  17. Those numbers are so bogus they are laughtfulable!

  18. The trolley is for tourist on the weekend. When are those freeloaders going to start too pay?
