TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS LEGGIO AND MESH ADDED TO KANSAS CITY HOMICIDE COUNT!!!

Along with the rest of the nation, Kansas City has endured a tragic homicide spike during 2015 noted on this blog FIRST and then confirmed by The New York Times.

Although there have been valiant efforts to combat the trend, our blog community brings a tragic reminder this morning that should help put recent news in perspective.

To wit . . .

IN THE NEXT MAJOR UPDATE OF KANSAS CITY HOMICIDE STATS . . . FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS LARRY LEGGIO AND JOHN MESH WILL BE ADDED TO THE RISING NUMBER OF LOCAL MURDERS!!!

Arson along with 2nd degree murder charges yesterday necessitate the update to the KCMO murder count.

Kansas City now lists 85 murders so far in 2015 compared with 64 at this time last year.

The numbers are now in line with 86 homicides at this time in 2013, 88 at or around this date in 2012 and 86 again near this calendar mark in 2011.

The tragic alleged murders of Leggio & Mesh remind us that the impact of rising local murders can quickly extend beyond the urban core and participants in high risk lifestyles despite the innocence of the victims in much the same way that Kansas City has also suffered a horrific loss of more than a dozen children to gunfire related killings.

More violence and local murder indicates an increasing disrespect for the value of life in Kansas City where so many innocent people are caught in the crossfire and become unwilling casualties in an ongoing killing spree that continues to destroy families, neighborhoods and communities across demographic lines.

  1. There was some confusion about the murder charges in the comments yesterday, thanks for straightening it out TKC.

Think about providing the data for murders per 100,000 residents. I have a feeling those numbers are getting up there again and could put us in a higher crime class right up there with NYC and other much bigger metro areas.

  2. So we murder a few babies (OK ... quite a few) and firemen. Shit happens. Still, we're a great barbecue town, and how about those Royals? And we gots tattooed hipster chicks that can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch.

  3. Jesus you sick fuck, Tony, don't cheer too much for two dead firemen counted as homicide victim. You got issues, kid. Cheering when their deaths were ruled a homicide, then bragging about all the other homicide stats? That's fucked in the head.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I don't think it's cheering, a lot of people still don't know that it was murder but that's what it was.

    ReplyDelete
  5. So what you are saying, Tony, is that there isn't really a spike in the homicide rate when data is compared over the last several years, and that 2014 was an anomaly.

    Thanks for the information.

Oh, by the way, you were early with the non-news that the cause of the fire was under investigation. But you were hours behind everybody else in reporting that charges had been filed.

Want non-news and wild speculation first? Want the real news last? You can get them at the same place -- Tony's Kansas City.

  6. ^^^^^^^^
Is that why you're reading? Every day and all day?

  7. Capital murder charges in order?

  8. Is that what you do every day and all day, 11:18? Worry about other people's reading habits? If so, stop being such a hypocrite and heed your own advice: GET A LIFE!!!

Sad fact is, this blog is good for a laugh or two as some poor wannabe who can't get a job in journalism continues to bang away in his mother's basement.

It is also a pretty good one-stop shop to get links to stories written by real journalists -- even on news that the wannabe tries to fool maybe only you into thinking he was "first."

And I do see how people like you who don't think very deeply just love the "anti-everything" screeds off the top of his head. After all, Donald Trump still sits high in the polls.

But as far as reading this blog every day, all day? Don't worry your feeble brain about it. People like you who actually dumb enough to take this blog seriously number very few.

  9. I'm not sure they can make a murder 2. Manslaughter is a more likely result.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Charges have already been filed. Two counts of Murder 2, or felony murder since the deaths occurred during the commission of a felony, and first degree arson.

They can always be amended, of course, but there is no way they will be amended down to manslaughter.

  11. Local Govt Spin Doctor10/28/15, 12:37 PM

Of course KCPD would add the firefighter's case to the homicide count since ATF closed the case and identified a subject. It will help bring the solved rate up, especially since there are two bodies and one suspect = two solved homicides.

  12. Uh, spin doctor? If a person is killed by another person within the city limits of your town, it is counted as a homicide, regardless of who investigates and closes the case.

Is that so hard to understand?

  13. What sound does an italian fire truck with a flat tire make? Dago Wop Wop Wop

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm pretty sure the firefighters were killed because NIGGERS CHEWED THROUGH THE WIRES.

I read it here so it must be true

    ReplyDelete
  15. So if that was murder, how many murders did George Bush and Dick Cheney cause in Baghdad? If those are murders, then obviously murder is no longer defined as premeditated killing. I suppose car accident deaths resulting from defective equipment are also murder?

In todays media, words are meaningless. Like the word HERO. It no longer means someone exercises valor in selflssly saving others. Now you are a hero if you are just a casuality in the line of duty. Hell, lets give EVERYBODY the Congressional Medal of Honor! Like we give little kids medals for PARTICIPATION, even if they don't win! And high school kids DIPLOMAS just for showing up, even if they still can't read.

  16. @11:46 It will not be manslaughter if the lady set fire to the building to collect insurance proceeds. I could see manslaughter charges if it was an accidental fire caused by negligence.

  17. Nail salon?

Sounds like Cindy Circo must be involved in this debacle.

  18. I say again, capital charges - She set the fire intentionally she knew firefighters would come. She needs to face real consequences for her actions.

  19. Sad to see the simpletons on this blog playing lawyer, please leave the work to the professionals.

  20. Lots of weirdos in these comments, what's important is that we not forget that there were two public employees killed in this blast and that's why we need to account for the blaze and make sure there is justice.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 3:58 what if it was just an accident? Or does someone have to burn because a firefighter burned?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes, you are right, the state probably can prove murder 2.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 4:07 if they can first prove arson, then yes.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Isn't that true, 3:35?

They don't know the evidence, they don't even know the elements of each crime, yet they are going to sit here and pretend they know what charges can be filed.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 1:47 It is a homicide when it is officially labelled a homicide and not a second before. If there is the remotest possibility a person accidentally wrapped himself in chains, dragged himself behind a car, shot himself and fell of a bridge by accident it will not be a homicide until it is proven.
