KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS SEND US FIRST WORD OF NEIGHBORHOOD ACTIVISTS ORGANIZING AGAINST THE PLAN TO RESTART DIGITAL BILLBOARD PROLIFERATION IN KANSAS CITY!!!

Here's an important communication that AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS wanted us all to see:

Digital Sign Ordinance 141042

Dear billboard blight supporters,

I have recently learned that (Councilman) Jim Glover has sponsored Ordinance #141042 that will allow a standard billboard to convert to digital. It will happen when the City condemns a billboard in one location and lets the owner of the billboard change a standard board to digital in another area with Council approval,

This relates to the billboard at 20th and Main where a developer wants to build a hotel. However, the billboard is blocking the view of the proposed hotel. I'm sure you have read about it . . .

The wonderful billboard ordinance the Council passed in 2007 prohibits digital billboards. Those that are now there are grandfathered in The law also says you can't replace a standard billboard with a digital.

This ordinance will be heard on Tues, Jan 6th at the City Plan Commission on the 26th floor of City Hall. The time has not been posted yet. Please be there if at all possible. It is scheduled to go before the Planning, Zoning and Economic Development Committee the next day, Wed Jan 7th at 1:30 on the 26th floor of City Hall . . .

  1. It was hard winning this in the first place, it's a shame that KC wants to revoke every progress that we've made so far.

  2. I was astounded when a new KC citizen asked, "Why is KC so dirty (trashy? Billboards were mentioned in my response, along with lack of leadership continuously expressing pride in who we are.

  7. Maybe the American taliban can put up one of its 'got Jeebus?" or "big gubmint is baaaaad except when it's making rules about your reproductive decisions!" billboards.

  8. This is actually a real bad deal, just like the City to sneak it in after the new year.

    Don't reelect any of them.

  9. As a consumer, I need electronic billboards to know exactly when One Direction has booked Arrowhead Stadium. It's important that I put the desire for young, attractive and successful young men in my niece and daughter's head so they forget about that little skateboard punk down the street.

  11. Glover getting some kind of political capital from the Hotel folks? Seriously, someone has tapped this goon and linin his trousers anymore. He used to be a pretty staunch neighborhoods guy. Yeah he leers at the females at the social functions he attends. Always has, always will. He's kind of a creeper. BUT, he was always considered a neighborhood friendly Council-person. These days, he's 180 degrees from that. Decisions like this, decisions against midtown neighborhoods, Northeast neighborhoods. Someone has definitely gotten to this guy. Not sure who, but he's definitely got some strings attached to his actions these days.
