Call this throwing good money after bad in Kansas City . . .
KC considers issuing debt for streetcar expansion studies
Deets:
"On May 7, an ordinance was introduced seeking the Kansas City Council’s approval to issue no more than $10 million in special obligation bonds that would be used to pay for preliminary engineering and design studies needed to plan the streetcar system's proposed second phase."
Amid a spree of Spring/Summer violence and homicide it's once again important to see Kansas City priorities of Mayor and council that put the toy train above every other priority in this town. And, if you were wondering, THIS is why Kansas City might be on track to end up like Detroit.
Are you fucking kidding me? I can't wait to move out of this corrupt town
ReplyDeleteKC is worse than Detroit. At least they made cars at some point. All we make is PR.
ReplyDeleteHideous ripoff
ReplyDeleteDancing with the Devil
Debts keep piling up.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, Sly and Russ and David and Matt will pay those bills, right?
Shame on KC. We're selling out the future.
ReplyDeleteThe Cocksuckers responsible for, and participatory in this shit should be put against a sturdy wall and shot.
ReplyDeleteTo death.
In public.
Televised.
Then, seize all their assets - to the last dime.
Seize any company complicit in this criminal enterprise as well, and liquidate it.
Enough of this corruption without consequence.
ReplyDeleteIts all lies to push through an agenda of the connected. You know how they lied their ass off about the stimulus and how it would bring jobs that never came? Well, a toy train would look really cool, but cmon you really think its going to bring jobs like they want you to think?
The city that is REALLY on the move is Denver and their rail they are working on. Its going to be amazing. That city is thriving. KCMO needs to fix some problems first.
Denver Facing Mile-High Money Problems
ReplyDeleteApril 23
Denver had it really good for the last 10 years with three new sports stadiums, a $4 billion airport, and a revitalized downtown. But today, it's more of a bust than a boom.
Sorry to rain on your parade 6:46.
ReplyDeleteNothing personal or anything.
@545, pull the trigger and move to Johnson County.
ReplyDeleteNot saying it's you, but there is way to much complaining and too little moving out of KC.
I think Tony's clan just likes to complain.
wow. some 4th grade understanding of government here.
ReplyDeleteplus the old false dichotomies.
look up when denver started building light rail, how long the intitial phase was, and whats happened since...
Is this the $10 million in borrowing that is being repaid as INTEREST ONLY by using PIAC funds specifically designated for repairing streets and other infrastructure in neighborhoods?
ReplyDeleteBorrowing money and not even able to pay back the principal, even by stealing funds for the most basic of neighborhood services?
Looks like the cupboard is pretty close to bare.
Actually, for most of the creative millenials and hipster supporters of the streetcar fiasco, even a fourth grade understanding of local government finance would be an enormous improvement.
ReplyDeleteBut when instant gratification is the order of the day, you think current fads will last forever, and you have no responsiblities for how anything turns out or who pays for it, priorities and even arithmetic are easy to ignore.
In five years there won't be anyone who remembers that they were big supporters of this disaster.
All of this trolly and Airport shit going down without approval of the tax payers and no one thinks this government is corrupt or out of control? It is time to take back the power, put a leash on the city commission and establish some God Damn accountability in KC. What the hell is wrong with you people allowing shit to get to this state, anyway?
ReplyDeleteIF the people vote the streetcars down that's $10 million that's shot to hell.
ReplyDeleteWonder why streetcar people are in such a big hurry. You would think they would Want to see how the starter line does before spending anymore money. Or are they afraid of how the starter line will do?
ReplyDeleteHow many cops could you put on the street for 10 million?
ReplyDelete832 nails it. The vote goes down and this is 10million plus interest down the shitter
ReplyDeleteDon't have any information about this topic, and even if I did I'd ignore it unless it reinforced my previously held opinion.
ReplyDeleteI'm a white suburban midwestern man. Knowing things is for assholes!
The airport money is use-it-or lose it money. The streetcar is voluntary folly.
ReplyDeleteStudy what?
ReplyDeleteMaybe there's still time for this mess to fall apart and dissapear.
And the band played on!
ReplyDeleteThe dirty little secret in all this is that the original transportation district doesn't come close to paying for the construction, acquisition, operations, and maintenance of the original Main Street line.
ReplyDeleteSo MORE tax money from a larger area is necessary.
Trick the voters, pass the expanded districts, and promise that no money will be collected unless Federal money is guaranteed. Then start collecting the tax with the promise that the feds are about to pony up.
Whcih shell is the pea under this week?
"Don't have any information about this topic, and even if I did I'd ignore it unless it reinforced my previously held opinion."
ReplyDelete10:01: We've noticed that, Mensa boy. Are you into dissing your soon-to-be former constituents with all this "suburban" shit? The northland is suburban last I checked.
