In fairness, there weren't many Native Americans around to complain about this Kansas City controversial art display because white people killed them all . . . Also, this was just as much about the gun featured in this bit of local art in bad taste.
STILL, "ACCUSATIONS OF RACISM" CAME FROM MOSTLY WHITE PEOPLE AGAINST OTHER WHITE PEOPLE AS KANSAS CITY LIBERALS FALL DEEPER INTO THE POLITICALLY CORRECT ABYSS!!!
In fact, throughout this entire controversy, I'm not sure anybody ever asked a Native American . . . Or even a Mexican (which is closer to a Native than most would like to acknowledge) what they thought about the controversy.

ReplyDeleteThe great decimation of the native population occurred by accident after Vesspuci mapped the East Coast. The natives had no defenses against the many viruses which the Europeans had built up antibodies against.
As much as 80% of the population was decimated by these diseases. The America which the Pilgrims found was vastly different from the Age Exploration.
Those freedom of religion Pilgrims were saved by the natives. And to show their gratitude they began slaughtering them and offering bounties on dead Indians. Of course they were equal opportunity murderers as they began to crucify Presbyterians too.

I have a friend who grew up in West, Texas outside of Waco. He said that one very noticeable cultural difference he sees when comparing West Virginians' & Texans' attitude toward Native Americans is that their is no racial hatred of them here. Many here have some Shawnee or Cherokee blood & are proud of this, even disappointed when DNA testing proves that there is no native DNA present in them (contradicting family history.) He speculated that the difference simply represented the difference in the way the Shawnee & Cherokee behaved as opposed to the Comanche & Apache. The Cherokee were willing to assimilate completely. It wasn't accepted. The Shawnee simply wanted Illinois, Indiana & Ohio for the Shawnee Nation.

The first atrocity was committed by a man named Greathouse who lured some of them across the river (Point Pleasant, WV) with promises of alcohol. At the height of the party, the white men fell upon them, killing all & mutilating their bodies (even cutting a baby from a woman's body & scalping the baby.) Thus started this chapter of the Indian Wars ending with Cornstalk telling his warriors that if they wanted to continue to fight, then they should first kill their women & children, as an act of mercy, then fight to the last man. He surrendered himself to the whites who then shot & killed him trough his cell door. Eventually the Shawnee were driven to Missouri, where you know the rest of the tale (leaving only a small community of bi-racial isolates in the few hills on the Ohio side of the river across from Ashland, KY. One of my great grandfathers was one of these.)
