TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! PREPARE FOR MASSIVE KANSAS CITY RIFS!!! BROKE-ASS CITY HALL SOON TO ELIMINATE AS MANY AS 100-125 JOBS!!!
In Kansas City, Missouri our municipal government hasn't used the term "layoff" in quite some time.
Layoffs are politely referred to as RIFS . . . Reduction In Force.
To wit . . .
SEVERAL CITY HALL INSIDERS REVEAL THAT KANSAS CITY IS SOON TO ELIMINATE MORE THAN 100 JOBS FROM CITY HALL THANKS TO AN ONGOING BUDGET CRUNCH!!!
A few deets shared with us . . .
- Unions are holding onto workers, recent agreements protect City Hall union employees from getting RIF'd and away from the proposed 3% reduction in force.
- We've already noted the hiring and salary freeze that has only the most skilled dept. heads can get around.
- The cuts have to come from jobs paid out by the general fund . . . Obviously, they have crunched the numbers and our budget remains "structurally unbalanced" very much like City Manager Troy Schulte complained last year.
- Already, employees with political connections are scurrying to protect themselves from the upcoming RIFS.
Sadly, all of this contradicts so much happy talk related to city staff earlier in the year.
The 5% citizen satisfaction survey win was touted far and wide but I'm not sure that sentiment will hold up if the City is letting to a significant percentage of the work force.
We'll be hearing about these cuts in the mainstream media sometime soon. They're going to try to sell the effort as "right-sizing" or some kind of similar nonsense. In reality, KC insiders don't think that the right people will be cut and they lament these upcoming RIFS are really just an indication that City Hall is just starting to experience some negative consequences for a pattern of extravagant and misguided spending.
Developing . . .
But where to start, that's the most important question TKC.
ReplyDeleteOh but we have money for ball fields and fucking go no where trains
ReplyDeleteWhat looks like a recovery since 2008 is actually debris flying that hasn't yet found anyplace to land.
ReplyDeleteMost of them can probably find work at socks101 when that gets huge. Every guy in America is gonna want a pair to wear to next year's fantasy draft with the fellas.
ReplyDeleteSounds like an emergency to me, unlike the streetcar & the soccer park.
ReplyDeleteBond issue time!
ReplyDeleteSo that's why they want the police department?
With less people working downtown, that creates even less of a need for streetcar. This would be hilarious if it didn't affect so many people's job.
ReplyDeleteTold you so, KC, and the more streetcar tracks we build, the more jobs we lose. Police, fire, you're next.
WTF do you know Byron you don't even live here.

ReplyDeleteBring back Funkhouser!
ReplyDeleteTroy Schulte is a fat cunt. He is a fucking criminal just like all of the asshole elected officials at city hall. Why don't they start by eliminating that pussy pricks job.
ReplyDeleteBring back Squitiro!

ReplyDeleteMark who made something of himself
ReplyDeleteByron who is a gay lowlife chuck of shit
Anytime you eliminate bureaucrats it can not be a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteSo 100 to 125 blacks will be out of work. For blacks govmint jobs are the alpha and omaga. Short hours, dont have to work hard and its hard to fire anyone.
ReplyDeleteThese unemployed people can be hired and trained to the security the new streetcar will need.
ReplyDeleteSly James is an Oreo. He is a connected trial lawyer who happens to be black, so if anyone criticizes him, then they are racists. He took a page from the Democrat playbook. Put a Black in office and you end criticism. Like Obama, he did not grow up in the hood. Graduated high school from Bishop Hogan, Marine Corp, BA from Rockhurst and JD from Minnesota and both degrees were with honors and a resume good enough for him to joined Blackwell Sanders right out of law school. He made partner there because he was a good lawyer. Sounds like a nice middle class white kid who made his parents proud. Like Barack Obama, he does not give a shit about the life of the average Black person. Wake up brothers and sisters and do not vote for a man simply on the basis of his skin color. Crackers do that and it makes you look as stupid as any cracker.
What are his two pet projects? He is pushing hard for streetcar and a new terminal at KCI. Follow the money. A white mayor could not get away with this shit.
Go to a McDonalds or Harolds on Admiral blvd any morning between 8 and 9 u will see at least one city car and employees getting breakfast on the way to a meeting or a job site some driving miles off course to get breakfast, my boss makes me eat before I come to work
ReplyDeleteLaying off workers and no plan to deal with hugely underfunded pensions. What to do, oh lets build a streetcar line, a new airport and a 1,000 room hotel.
ReplyDeleteFunk wins in a major way! Love him or hate him, he was at least focused on making progress in Kansas City. It was his wife that was his demise.
ReplyDeleteWhen the Mayor and the Council tout a "ban the box" program to hire convicted felons only to realize that there are no jobs to be had... Then too, what happened to Silicon Prairie? What passes for leadership in this town is and will always be a joke!
The list of failed economic shams will continue to be more visible. It's right on time, too. Election season will be in full swing in 2014 and 2015. Hopefully, the citizens of this town are so fed up that their anger and resentment will force them to look for, vet and install qualified leadership. Better doesn't necessarily mean more degrees, PhD's, fraternal listings, committee's or the like. Better leadership means, people who are willing to put in the work, possess the skillset to deliver results and consider the needs of the citizens of this City; rather guessing.
It's actually good news that people at City Hall are losing their jobs. They rarely work anyway. The people who work at the City are extremely lazy. This will motivate them to get off their asses and appreciate the work that goes into finding a job. It's rough for everyone. Good ridden.
Nepotism probably got them their job in the first place. Let's see what "ol' Nepo" will do to replace the job... developing.

ReplyDeleteTell your mama that Byron is breaking the rules. What do I have to know about it? A streetcar is not an emergency. A soccer park is not an emergency. Consistently failing at simple governance is a complete failure.
Never fear, we will have Street Cars, Gay Bars, Bike Paths, oh and a new airport for everyone so we can all commute back and forth to our new creative class jobs.
ReplyDeleteMove Shulte to the head of the line.....the fucking unemployment line. That fucking loser is more of a problem than anyone at City Hall, with the exception of Mayor Silverback.
ReplyDeleteByron, if anyone should be acquainted with complete failure, it's you. You see one every day when you look in the mirror.
ReplyDeletethe Funkhouser-Squitty duo back? for what? comic relief? Nah, we ain't that broke down.
ReplyDeletePerhaps Cindi Circi and Co did learn something from the MAST fuck up. Did they take note of the jobs going to fire-fighters and MAST personnel being shoved out of the moving ambulance? More jobs for the fire fighters.
ReplyDeleteThe same type of job maneuvering will come if KC takes over the running of the Police Department.
+ 2:38 PM @Byron - True statement. And the Mayor and Council have repeatedly failed. We are being governed by the most degenerate bunch of folks. Is it possible that it could get much worse?
ReplyDeleteAnd, they have the nerve to invite Local Control of police department and have little control over city business. I'm tired of hearing the statement, "Kansas City will be the only city without local control. Sounds like a good way to mentor police departments nationwide. Kansas City has one of the best police departments in the U. S. I'm ready to pack and get out of here if Local Control comes to town.
ReplyDeletedo tell, why is Burt Malone at the Health Department STILL employed by the city? ditto for Rex Archer.
ReplyDeleteMr. Tony,
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if any of your readers know just how many ex- council aides, ex-mayor aides and former outside contractors are currently on the city payroll?
Not one of these employees had to undergo an HR screening to get employed by their first city hall boss.
Luckily, Mark Funkhouser and his awful wife were too disliked to have any political pull to get any staff person on the city rolls. No Crispin Rea, No Joe Miller, No Blackwood, No Ed Wolfe and, oh dear... mercifully I forgot the rest of the motley crew.
Such a waste of our tax dollars. Just how many political spore are left?
At the beginning of the budget year, Schulte builds in smoke and mirrors in the form of efficiency and salary savings that he knows will not materialize.
ReplyDeleteThe mediocre people have taken buyouts and gotten the fuck out, leaving, with some exceptions, C- to D- grade personnel.
The politics will continue, the decent will leave, Gary O. will continue to connive, and Schulte will act as though he knows what he is doing.
I'm glad to be getting out of this train wreck of a city before it implodes.
ReplyDeleteSchulte and his 13 assistant city managers should be the first to go.
ReplyDelete"Best swimmers are the first off a sinking ship"............
ReplyDeleteThe assist city managers could not find work outside of city hall if their life depended on it.
1:12. Agreed. In fact one department director was recently fired from two different private sector jobs. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteWhy is councilman Wagner going to China on taxpayers?
