Kansas City's latest Citizen Satisfaction Survey reveals drastic declines in the public's raiting of city services despite the upbeat spin of a press conference today.

Today's spin on the results from City Hall is straight up newspeak and it's frightening that Kansas City leaders would be so disingenuous regarding the result of this Mayor's tenure in office.
Here's the stat that today's presser seemed to tout:
Since 2005: Quality of customer service from city employees (+5%)
However . . . Take a closer look:
Since Last Year and noted in the report: Quality of customer service from city employees (-5.7%)
That's right . . .
MAYOR SLY'S ADMINISTRATION IS TOUTING A STAT THAT ACTUALLY DROPPED SIGNIFICANTLY SINCE LAST YEAR AND MADE THE MOST PROGRESS UNDER FORMER MAYOR FUNKY'S TENURE!!!
It's beyond spin . . . The PR campaign comes dangerously close to outright lying.
Rather than reading City Hall happy news and a PDF cartoon giving Mayor Sly a High 5 which reveal that 75.2% rate KC as excellent or good place to live.
Drilling down to just the executive summary of this year's Citizen Satisfaction Survey reveals some serious declines.
Buried in news reports is this fact . . .
"Areas that saw sharp declines include ambulance service, public transportation, swimming pools, youth athletic programs, illegal dumping and the overall quality of water utilities."
Sadly, today City Hall was content to deliver nothing but cynical spin rather than relay accurate information . . . And of course, the typical empty promises for improvement don't seem as urgent and campaigns for recent tax spikes under Mayor Sly's tenure.

ReplyDeleteI would live in a loft in downtown KC, but it seems that such a thing is just way too politically incorrect to risk it. I fear I would become the target of political character assasination by the likes of people like Tony and his diciples. I can't afford to become the target of a smear campaign, which is what happens the moment you associate yourself with any downtown (not just KC).

ReplyDeleteSly James also said that he was trying to help citizens accept a police station (East Patrol). If it were just a matter of acceptance that issue could have been resolved long before they declared "done deal." You see what happens when City people make declarations? They outright lie.
I'm certainly unhappy in Kansas City. As soon as I'm able I'm moving the fuck out!

ReplyDeleteI've lived in KCMo for 54 years and worked in KCMo for 36 of those years. I've never been surveyed regarding city services and I've never heard of anyone I know (family, neighbors, co-workers, fellow church members, etc.) ever being surveyed regarding city services. So, does anyone know who they survey or how they select and contact the people they survey?
ReplyDeleteI don't trust the survey information any more than I trust anything else the city hall crooks tell the public. They'r liars and cheats and only interested in serving themselves and their cronies.
