KANSAS CITY AIRPORT "ADULT DISCUSSION" OF SINGLE-TERMINAL PLAN CONTINUES AS CITY HALL FALLS OFF THE RADAR!!!

Amid critical pubic outcry and backlash from media pundits regarding plans for a single-terminal airport, Kansas City Mayor Sly James urged residents to engage in an "adult discussion" on the future of KCI. Mayor Sly then formed a committee to study the single-terminal proposal. Sadly, since that time, the public has heard VIRTUALLY NOTHING from the voices at City Hall who initially touted the project.
Still the discussion continues . . .
Recently, The Show-Me Daily blog noted that even the most optimistic projections for the airport would lose MILLIONS.
And then . . .
With absolutely no fanfare . . . Columnist Dave Helling picked up the post and added his own math.
And now Show-Me Daily ups the ante with more insight regarding fee raising at the proposed new airport amid the single-terminal plan . . .
Money quote:
"Given MCI’s current contracting model, the airport is responsible for terminal debt and needs to either raise fees on airlines or sell $40 million more in hot dogs."
Even worse . . . Higher fees could impact the number of travelers.
Worst of all . . . A spike in airport fees could tank the airports bond rating and make any project that much more expensive.
Policy wonk talk aside . . .
Here's what stands out:
AN "ADULT DISCUSSION" OF THE KANSAS CITY SINGLE-TERMINAL AIRPORT PROPOSAL IS TAKING PLACE AND MAYOR SLY AND CITY HALL ARE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND!!!
The Show-Me Daily Blog, Helling, Friends Of KCI, SaveKCI.org and the Citizens Association have all been pouring over the project in great detail BUT the first movers on this topic have simply dropped out of the discussion.
An insider notes: "Johnson and VanLoh don't show up to events, the advisory group kicks out opponents, and the mayor says anyone who disagrees with a new terminal is misinformed."
And so . . . After a few PR hits and a bit of criticism it's important to get a good look at City Hall pouting and going silent as locals take up the "adult discussion" offer.
Developing . . .
Sly doesn't like it when people disagree.
ReplyDeletePeople who disagree with politicians are always wrong. Just look at the fools who thought Detroit might go broke.
ReplyDeleteSo maybe a strip club at the airport?
ReplyDeleteFINALLY, somebody in KC has a development idea that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteI swear to God almighty, I will not vote for a single incumbent in Kansas City and I will do what ever it takes to convince others to do the same... these are shameless political welfare recipients taking our money and looking down their noses at us ... this party needs to end with some hard line leaders willing to roll up their sleeves and undo the shit these people have caused
ReplyDeleteMaybe joco should build a terminal at New Century airport, move SW there and just abandon KCI!
ReplyDeleteLet me guess the plan is to name it Sylvester James International Airport.
ReplyDeleteThey were busy having a dinner with the KC Chamber while discussing who will receive the airport contracts.
ReplyDeleteWith oil at $107 per barrel no doubt we are going to need this with a bright future of cheap fuel, happy motoring, and bargain rate jet travel approaching rapidly.
ReplyDeleteBoth the Toy Train and this are nothing but tax bombs set to go off long after the current crew has pocketed their cut and exercised it's exit strategy.
ReplyDeleteI am the Wolverine. No charge for the prostate exam.
ReplyDeleteYou might want to relax a bit.
They might take in $40 million selling hotdogs if the darn food vendors were ever open. Most the time I have been in a terminal, day or night, the food vendors and shops have been closed.
ReplyDeleteThese nitwits aren't imaginative and creative enough to figure out how to re purpose two terminals? Gawd help us all.
ReplyDeleteI was skeptical at first but I'm quickly warming to the Funkhouser rule: one term and out on your ass!
