TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! CITY COUNCIL OPPOSITION TO SHOCKING KANSAS CITY "STRONG MAYOR" EFFORT!!!

Kansas City is soon to undergo a major change to our charter and upheaval at City Hall.

Just a few days ago KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS broke news of the impending "strong mayor" form of government effort that's soon to get underway.

And now . . .

IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE "STRONG MAYOR" STORY BREAKING FIRST ON TKC . . . SOME MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL ARE FINALLY STANDING IN OPEN OPPOSITION TO MAYOR SLY!!!

This is a drastic reversal given that the Mayor is bowling buddies with the Council even if he dominates them and they usually serve as his rubber stamp.

A TRUSTED KANSAS CITY INSIDER offers insight into the opposition:

"You know how they're going to sell this one, don't you Tony? It's really just a referendum on the Council. Right now people are fed up with the Council and they wouldn't mind stripping power away from these representatives that have lost touch with neighborhoods in this city. Sure, people will vote for this because they like the Mayor. But it's also a way to strike back at a City Council that has been one of Kansas City's worst."

For this reason and so many more, we're FINALLY hearing grumbling from City Council regarding Mayor Sly's strong arm tactics on this topic and many others.

And so, the lackadaisical and rubber stamp legislative behavior by the Council has earned them nothing but a knife in the back from supporters of Mayor Sly who want to garner even more power. Sadly, this tactic does nothing but disenfranchise and alienate neighborhoods even further. However, voters seem to adore Mayor Sly and have voted for all of his tax increases. Sadly, it might be too late for City Council to stand up against the Mayor given their submission that has been mostly a disservice to voters.

DEVELOPING . . .

  1. They need to be paid off. Not all the rewards can go to Cindy.

  2. We should do away with At-Large council seats and replace them with more, smaller districts. The Mayor should be the only vote on council who can claim a city-wide election.

  3. 7:16 would keep things focused on the neighborhoods and take some of the power away from the big givers who fund the at large races

  4. We think anything that diverts focus to the neighborhoods is a bad idea, so STFU and bend over and pick up that soap.

  5. Sly wants more power and not peace.

Hilarious given that L42 has done more for KC's neighborhoods than all of the East side ministers and Midtown HAs, and Northland "gimme gimme" howlers combined. And way, way, way more than any of the knee-jerk anti-union goons who bitch about them without really understanding shit.

No organization has worked harder or advocated more to provide excellent service to ALL neighborhoods in KC.

  7. Good for the council! They need to keep that NIGGER in check.

Neighborhoods are not built on faster internet access and computer gaming capabilities for fire stations. You are confused and corrupt again. Sorry, that reality thing really bites!

    Mr. Tony,
It is about damn time this council exerted a presence. This council has been so focused on presenting a united, getting along front that NOTHING has been done for our neighborhoods. Mayor Sly has bullied everyone into complete silence. Why, hell, we don't know who is on his staff, what in the world do they do and who is in his "kitchen cabinet"
A complete lock down on information is not the way a community driven government works on the local level.
Mr. Tony, why is our the council members scared to ask questions of this Mayor? His steely stare does not belie the fact that he does not control the essence of life. Lord have mercy, he can't control his weight or his son.
Tonight we will have another meeting of the overly large committee to decide what, if anything, to do about local control of our KCPD. This bulgy group was engineered to fail. Obfuscation is working for this mayor... and NO ONE ELSE.
I admire the Superintendent of Raytown Schools who basically told Missy Circo and the Mayor to go to hell when both wanted to raid the Winchester TIF. One of far too few leaders in our city who know when right is right and wrong is pure wrong.
And that damn streetcar to no where..

Mr. Tony, how is this guy different from the megalomaniac Funkhouser?
whoo whee, time to hang the laundry.

  10. I'm opposed to it on principle, but since it would REALLY piss off N-word douchebag, let's do it!

  11. Of course the clowncil opposes it. It threatens their fiefdom and patronage. It's a good idea since it's a lot easier to hold one person accountable than an entire collection of dunces, which is what we have now.

  12. Cleaver set the Mayor up with the best of both world's and they want to change it?

    Mayor gets:
    Veto power

Control over council via committee assignments.

    Chooses Board and Commission members.

    Chooses Pro Tem

City Manager as scapegoat for everything.

Gets to vote on every issue.

    Strong Mayor gets:

    Veto Power.

Votes only to break a tie.

    Chooses City Manager.

    Choses Boards and Commission members.

Council chooses President vs a Pro Tem.

Council President assigns committee positions for council.

  13. Mayor Gets:

Cushy high paying "super lawyer" position with Posinelli at the conclusion of his Mayoral term.

  14. Why cant anything function properly in KCMO. There is always some issue, and all I see is a bunch of Democrats in disarray.

  15. 10:54, if you want to see Republicans in disarray, look at any city of the bible belt. Don't be a two party fucktard. It's a system set up so that no matter who wins, we lose. You play right into it.

  16. 10:06 used to be a lotion of somekind and with this posting, I imagine it still is. This inglorious poster can kiss my ass and then, proceed to dislodge it's mother from the whorehouse, where she is, no doubt, safely ensconced.

  17. Shame on all these people. They have done nothing for the city. Only themselves.

  18. I don't think any of them ever bowled a 300.

Let's change to partisan elections so we can identify these politicians by party and make them take some responsibility.

  22. I prefer an Alderman form of government or even self-governing at this point. This City has run amuck under the leadership of Sly-dog.

  23. So how is putting the PD under this group a good thing?

  24. Well 3:52, pretending to be straight doesn't work very well in your case either...
