Lets actually fix the problem and forcibly commit anyone diagnosed with a mental illness who does not take their medication. What exactly is the reason for ignoring a weapon that he took with the obvious intent of using? How and when did it jam? If it jammed on the scene, then it was used, just perhaps not successfully. I suppose this information will be available at some point, but I doubt it jammed on the first round. In any case the Ar is not to be ignored any more than you assholes would ignore a carload of gangbangers in your neighborhood each carrying an Ar-15 with a drum mag.

In regard to those against concealed weapons carry: Even though the guy was wearing body armor, someone shooting back could still have made a profound difference in the outcome. It still hurts like a bitch to get shot while wearing body armor, and depending on the range and caliber, a torso shot could still temporarily incapacitated the wearer. This could be long enough to grant the opportunity for a person to either incapacitate him further, or at least disarm him.
Showing some resistance would have severely interfered with the shooter's process as one reason why he selected a movie theater is because it was such a soft target. Taking his attention away from his task at hand, if even for a second is totally worth it, if it saves just one life.
People are responsible for keeping themselves safe. This boils down to making good decisions, avoiding trouble, and being prepared if trouble is unavoidable.
The moment people let the government take away one freedom because they are scared, freedoms you are not scared of are will be the next to go. Giving up any Liberty for security is what leads inevitably to a government that will invade personal lives and trample future rights like dominoes fall. This is a price that freedom comes with, uncertainty, not just you waving a flag along a parade route. We sacrifice alot, but I would not want to silence a gunshot in order to hear a roar of government dictating orders. J.O.
