TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY AD HOC GROUP AGAINST CRIME SEARCHES FOR NEW LEADER!!!
For decades, Former Kansas City Councilman Alvin Brooks has been a stalwart in the fight against Kansas City violence, crime and homicide.
He worked to establish the Ad Hoc Grop Against Crime and still works tirelessly to support the organization.
However, Mr. Brooks is now in his mid-80s and he is helping the group look for a new leader.
This is where it gets interesting . . .
THE SEARCH TO REPLACE MR. BROOKS HAS BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL SO FAR DESPITE SOME RATHER IMPRESSIVE CANDIDATES!!!
Moreover . . .
WORD IS: FORMER COUNCILMAN TERRY RILEY WANTS THE JOB BUT HAS BEEN OVERLOOKED BY A FEW MEMBERS OF THE GROUP BECAUSE OF LONG STANDING POLITICAL BEEF!!!
The criticism of Mr. Riley . . .
* He isn't a regular presence at prayer vigils.
* His legislative record as a Councilman skews toward development and not public safety.
* Again, some of this stuff represents a discord among Eastside political factions.
In support of Mr. Riley several INFLUENTIAL members of the community believe he would be a PERFECT leader for Ad Hoc for these reasons and many more . . .
* There is not any former or current elected official on the Eastside who equals Mr. Riley in maintaining a vast array of longstanding and diverse political connections.
* Mr. Riley is one of the last remaining Kansas City Councilmen who "walked his district" in order to create ground level contact with his constituents.
* In his early 40s, Mr. Riley would bring both an equal level of youth and practical experience to the group that many accuse of using old school and ineffective tactics.
TKC NOTE . . . If Ad Hoc was smart they would not only give Mr. Riley a greater bit of consideration but also think about giving Alonzo Washington a call in a much needed attempt to mend fences.
Still . . . The search continues and nobody will ever really be able to replace Mr. Brooks.
The best we can hope for is that this longstanding group dedicated to fighting crime will find some way to make a smooth transition with new leadership geared toward professionally navigating an increasingly complex and divisive Kansas City political and social landscape.
DEVELOPING . . .
Did you put in an application TKC?
ReplyDeleteRiley is a crook himself!
ReplyDeleteOh, I mean his interests skewed toward development, not public safety.
BEAR CALLLLLLLL
Alonzo is the man ... well, sorta.
ReplyDeleteNobody can mobilize a community like Terry Riley. They would be smart to make that choice.
ReplyDeleteDevelopment doesn't help public safety? Anyone who believes that should just quit now. Terry is a good choice.
ReplyDeleteAd hoc was started in 1977 to address crime and homicides in the black community and 2012 is on track to be one of the worst years in a long time.
ReplyDeleteVigils AFTER murders is not fighting crime and shaking down clueless white folks, intimidated councilmembers, and clueless intimidated corporations for your own personal financail benefit is just what it seems. Brooks IS ad Hoc and talking about replacing him is like finding a new horse to pull the buggy long after the car has been invented.
The swells will give him a dinner, a proclamation, and maybe a watch, and the young people in the black community will celebrate that yet another of the old "I marched with Martin" crowd has gotten out of the way so some folks who may really have community service at heart can rise to the occasion.
If the "funders" of this charade will just make it clear that there won't be any more money in it, there won't be anyone knocking down the door to become the successor.
Certainly not Riley.
Vigils make fake ministers feel important. They also get to spend some quality time with bereaved female relatives who put out easier and write checks to the "church" later.
ReplyDeleteIf Riley does this, does it mean that he cannot help his client sell us adulterated liquid and call it "water?" If yes ....
ReplyDeleteHire his ass now!

ReplyDeleteIf you do you stealin wearing a coat and tie they call you a business man or Mr. Romney -- not a crook.
Alvin Brooks has been a stalwart in the fight against Kansas City violence, crime and homicide.
ReplyDeleteIs this statement a JOKE? Based on results, leaving that position open will achieve about the same results. Well, I guess there's always Alonzo, now that schmendrick gest results!
Ad hoc should hire Alonzo and 90% of their budget could go to a helicopter with his logo on it. That stops murders! Right?
ReplyDeleteAlvin never had a problem committing crimes against his marriage. So maybe Terry is the right guy for the job.
ReplyDeleteIf Ad Hoc doesn't hire him, with his drive, smarts and connections Riley could always start his own parallel organization and show them how it's done.
ReplyDelete"There is not any former or current elected official on the Eastside who equals Mr. Riley in maintaining a vast array of longstanding and diverse political connections."
ReplyDeleteIs that what we are calling that? "Diverse political connections".
What a hoot.
Look, Alonzo, like his methods or not, actually makes a real effort to bring criminals to justice. Yes I know some of his videos and his approach can leave him vulnerable to some criticism, but he busts his ass to get teh African American community to stop "Snitchin" and put violent criminals in jail.
Who the fuck else is putting themselves out there on a daily basis, callin the police, getting tips, stirring up shit and actually trying to find killers?
It ain't like Hercule Poirot is searching under garbage cans on Prospect for finger prints.
Alonzo is the highest profile guy in the African American community who makes consistant efforts to bring killers to justice and stem the horrific tide of African American violence.
Alonzo is the best and most logical choice to take this position and light some fires under the asses of folks who talk the talk, but don't walk the walk.
Just my opinion.
By the way, 8:39 makes a brilliant comment in my opinion.
ReplyDeletealonzo and riley are both crooked so let them hire them and see how fast the money disappears
ReplyDeleteLet's hope it will be someone whose mind is in this century. All Alvin Brooks did was blame everything on racism.
ReplyDeleteWhy are young black men killing each other? Racism.
Why do most black people live in one area of Kansas City? Racism.
Why did we have the Plaza flash mob last summer? Racism.
Etc.
The 60s are over. Perhaps alvin Brooks will soon join them.
Whites are the only people who don't have the luxury of instinctively yelling RACISM!!!!! every time they are held accountable for the same crimes the race card folks keep up their sleeves.
ReplyDeleteAlonzo P. Jiggaboo is NOT qualified to head up anything. He couldn't make a decent sandwich, much less run an organization of any complexity whatsoever. He's a clueless grifter and nothing more. Riley might be alright but he'd sure bear watching ALL THE TIME..
ReplyDeleteWhy is Alvin leaving Ad Hoc? Racism.
ReplyDeleteTerry O'Riley?? Are they kidding?? This guy is king of the grifters. Remember his big contribution to the inner city... The Citadel? That was his largest success for his community. The Americam Water gig must not be panning out. Terry is always gifting, looking for the biggest handout.
ReplyDeleteCareful, folks. Riley is one of Tony's favored friends.
ReplyDeleteYou mean this guy O'Riley is not Irish? I voted for him over Arbanas because he was Irish.
ReplyDeleteDamn it!
Terry is a good man. If Ad Hoc was smart they would hire him and ignore so many people who never cared about preventing crime in KC.
ReplyDeleteHire both. Terry as business director and Alonzo to head actual investigations.
ReplyDeleteWhen you look behind the Al Brooks cardboard cutout, there's nothing there. That's all ad Hoc is; Brooks. He raises money through white guilt and spends it all on himself. There are no investigations or business to run. And it has NO impact on homicides or crime. You don't have to "replace" something that doesn't exist.
ReplyDeleteAnd there's already plenty of money thrown away on do-nothing groups like Aim4Peace.
Does it REALLY make a difference which NIGGER is hired? Not in the slightest. Whomever it is will, no doubt, have it's finger in the til and give away city money until it's gone. NIGGERS are thieves and the sooner humans figure it out, the better. Oh yeah, humans will never figure it out cause that would be RACIST.

ReplyDeleteLove the smog cloud over the Northland in Al Brooks' photo. Makes it look like we have mountains or something up there instead of just piles of turds....
ReplyDeleteHey 6:26, white trash says FUCK YOU!
ReplyDeleteI Suppose we must endure ANOTHER DAMN HONORARY DINNER FOR THAT JACKDAW BROOKS.
ReplyDeleteJesus, how damn annoying is this getting? Seems like we hold a dinner everytime the old philanderer farts.
Does this mean that Brooks will FINALLY go away?
@6/2/12 8:39 AM I couldn't agree more. We credit Mr. Brooks far too much for no results. With no evidence that his presence has helped derail crime or that there has been any impact particularly when you look at the results. We’ve had pretty consistent and increased (highest) murder rate (to-date). And his ineffectiveness is not because he's old; it is simply because he hasn't done any of the work. Unsuspecting white people are dangerous because they set the tone in their circle about who is and isn't great among African Americans; never actually interacting in the community to see for themselves. Meanwhile, these selected few “black leaders” ride the coattails of Martin pretending to be for the people they claim to serve; all the while bilking the system. Alvin Brooks is nothing more than an over glamourized welfare recipient. I hope he disappears sooner rather than later. 36 years is long enough. This organization needs to be dissolved.
ReplyDelete10:11, amen! And a big N-O on Riley.
ReplyDeleteTerry Riley will skim $$ off the top at Ad Hoc to pay his water bill.
ReplyDeleteTo everyone here who's heaped disrespect on Alvin Brooks.....shame on you.
ReplyDeleteCan one man solve the crime problems of KC?...no, of course not. Has he tried to be of service to the community, live and work in the community, be a role model (police officer, Council, Mayoral candidate, etc.) for younger generations?..Yes
As for Alonzo Washington, he burned his bridges a long time ago, and should be considered for nothing but the insane asylum. You don't vulgarly slander Mr. Brooks, Chief Forte, Mayor James, etc., and deserve anything but banishment.
TKC did the right thing in putting out this post, but should have omitted the part concerning the EXTREMELY RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL alonzo......good riddance.
I remember when Terry was in committee trying to save Wayne Cauthen's job. He almost put himself to sleep. Looking back, I'd rather have Wayne back. The city council should count their votes for a new manager.
ReplyDeleteGlad Cauthen is gone. He was horrible.
ReplyDeleteWill be glad when Brooks is gone. He is horrible.
