TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! LET'S REMEMBER THE TOP 5 REASONS THE KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN TOY TRAIN IS UN-AMERICAN!!!

In the public discourse Memorial Day is mostly about mindless cheerleading for a collection of mostly misguided foreign policy decisions and that's cool.
Go Team!

However, what might be more productive is to examine some of the Democratic principles that are often touted by chicken hawks who send young people to die in faraway lands but are rarely put into practice . . . Especially in this town.
Don't worry . . . I wasn't planning on making any new friends today.
Anyhoo . . .
Because Democracy is more important than MISTAKING MILITARISM WITH PATRIOTISM . . . Consider this . . .
CHECK THE TOP FIVE WAYS THE KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN TOY TRAIN IS UNDEMOCRATIC AND UN-AMERICAN!!!
1. The measly, nearly secret and smallish vote that will decide the fate of The Downtown Streetcar is a disgrace to Kansas City and Democracy - Less than 603 voters CAREFULLY SELECTED by local politicos will determine a HUGE BILL that this town will be forced to pay long after all those phony promises about increased revenue are revealed as lies.
2. Only Kansas City politicos, special interests and consultants will benefit from this Downtown Toy Train - This is a power play by the Kansas City oligarchy supported only by a couple of dimwit amateur urban planners. There is no public consensus about this project because politicos only want a small crowd voting and private companies rule this election . . . In much the same way that Halliburton gave everybody the heebie-jeebies during the Iraq crusade.
3. The Downtown Toy Train Doesn't Solve Any Problem - It's not a transit concern because most people could easily walk the distance. It's not a "starter line" and no plans are in the works to link up with it . . . The project is nothing more than another local "white elephant" to feed with taxpayer cash.
4. Tourist Schemes From City Hall ALWAYS Turn Out Bad - Check the last 20 years and just about every City Hall development project has been a let down. There's no pro sports team that was promised at The Sprint Center. The P&L District bleeds money. Union Station is nothing more than glorified office space. The Mayor and City Council are looking on FOOLISHLY OPTIMISTIC when the record of local politicos to develop successful projects is abysmal. Maybe this isn't completely undemocratic but it does follow the same story line as most wars waged by politicos and their empty promises that end up costing countless lives.
5. Politicos Making The Downtown Toy Train A Priority Lose Focus Of Local Neighborhoods - After BILLIONS worth of investment the so-called "Downtown Renaissance" still has failed to materialize. Like it or not, it won't be delivered by train. Meanwhile, KC neighborhoods are paying the price for this folly and betrayal of local voters.
For these reasons and many more . . . On Memorial Day . . . It's important to remember that The Downtown Toy Train is nothing but a scam perpetrated by local elitists, asking for more sacrifice in the name of a project that does nothing less than betray democratic ideals.
DEVELOPING . . .
And because TKC honors Memorial Day . . . Here's a playlist to honor the occasion.
Hopefully, more posts later . . . STAY TUNED!!!
u totally need to take a break.
ReplyDeleteI like it because Cordish does not.
ReplyDeleteGood Words Tony, Good Words.
ReplyDeleteTo bad the insane and the power hungry won't read it.
Don't like it here, asshole? Tuck your laptop under your arm and swim south this time.
ReplyDeleteTony as a liberal is uncomfortable with patriotism on Memorial Day, because he essentially wants to make America a different country than it is.
ReplyDeleteAnother quote from "The Tyranny of Cliches".
This from George Orwell.
"Those who abjure’ violence,” George Orwell wrote, “can only do so because others are committing violence on their behalf.” This insight, hardly original to Orwell, is the fundamental, irrefutable fact of all civilizations at any time in history. —
Those folks who have done violence for you in wars past and present, some good some bad, are Veterans all over America and now currently serving and spilling blood on foreign soil.
Fuck the Toy Train. Thanks to all you kids suckin it up for all of us fat guys sitting here bitching about a little heat and not enough ice in our sodas.
Come hame safe from those wars, good and bad you guys!
In our involvement in foreign wars over the last 100 years we have seen success and failure, but the one constant promised by Churchill still rings true, it is blood, tears, toil and sweat .
That crucible borne by those veterans of our freshly remembered past and those young men and women who risk their lives today, should be honored and revered, no matter our political differences and personal preferences.
God Bless America, God Bless You and Your Families this Memorial Day.
“I am concerned for the security of our great Nation; not so much because of any threat from without, but because of the insidious forces working from within.” General Douglas MacArthur
ReplyDeleteThis continent belongs to the Amerindians. Just because we stole it, by hook & crook, & conquest does not make it ours.
ReplyDeleteWe write special laws discriminating against non-Christian, non-Anglo & non-heterosexual people & then pat ourselves on the back for our belief in freedom & justice.
On this Memorial Day, I honor our soldiers & thank them for their service, but I'm going to include Cornstalk, too.
Well said Chuck!!!!
ReplyDeleteI know three registered voters for this and they're all voting NO. Anyway we can get a list of the people voting in this thing?! Corruption charges?!
ReplyDeleteActually, Byron, if you want to play that game, go back 50,000 to 60,000 years and you'll find all people of all races are related. We originated in Africa and migrated from there.
ReplyDeleteSo we're all one people in origin. And all people have a birthright claim to every part of the world.
The greater shame is that we shoved the Indian aside to had the country over to mud ducks.
ReplyDeleteMaybe those who vote are opposed to it, too....
ReplyDeleteHasn't government always operated like this? Nothing shocking. And, oh, BTW: democracy is a sham.
ReplyDeleteTKC, you have points to be made, but when you claim the election is nearly secret and includes hand-picked voters, you are so far off base it renders the rest of your post questionable.
ReplyDeleteThe election was publicized by the city as required by law. It was also publicized through publicly-posted meetings, flyers and direct mail. Every registered voter living within the boundaries of the taxing district is eligible to vote. They only have to request a ballot and return it. Not too difficult, IF you care enough to vote.
The fact that so few people requested ballots is not the fault of the streetcar proponents, nor is it a surprise. Voter turnout in KC is abysmally low; check out local school board elections.
This election is governed by state and local laws and has been run above board. I don't know who your anti-streetcar source is, but they don't have their facts straight.
Shut up Russ Johnson.
ReplyDeleteThis vote was totally secret. You are just another City Hall boster who believes their crap. You either have "money in the game" or mistakenly believe all of their lies.
Nobody knows who picked up ballots. My experience tells me that people who oppose something are usually more motivated to act than those who support something.
ReplyDeleteIn this holiday weekend it's nice to see tony exercise what has become standard American practice: to question the patriotism of anyone or anything you disagree with. Enjoy your holiday, douche bag.
Tony, you used to actually kind of have a cool website. Well, not really, but you're liberal lame ass just dissed on veterans on Memorial Day. My dad flew over 100 combat missions in Viet Nam. Stop drinking the Kool Aid. I'm done with your sight. You even act like people are trying to shut you down. You don't get enough hits idiot.
ReplyDeleteHere's a hint: Tony wants you to leave.
ReplyDeleteHere's a hint: Tony is a stupid wop that thinks he is tough
ReplyDeleteIdiots, the ballots weren't "picked up" by anyone. They were mailed to registered voters upon the voters' request.
ReplyDeleteThe vote is not "totally secret" as a few morons, like the commenter above claim. It was widely publicized. Bitch all you want but the facts are on the side of the streetcar project.
the facts?
ReplyDeletethe fact that it's an Obama rip off?
shut it.
Of course its a starter line: all the work on Main street between downtown and the Plaza...streetcar compatible.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, KC already submitted a grant for federal funds to perform the alternatives analysis necessary to build the extension to UMKC.
What's great about KC's layout is one streetcar spine and crosstown buses would be a game changer for KC transit. The core would be one of the best served cities of its size in the nation with minimal investment.
Add a couple MAX-style commuter routes from the Northland, Lee's Summit and east Jackson Co.and viola, KC has regional transit.
