The Plaza Teen Curfew starts tonight but it looks like the underlying issues that started the hot mess aren't even close to being solved.
Take a look at a recent statement from Alonzo Washington that might soon make their statements public:
"I got some calls from some the original so-called flash mobbers. They want to talk to the press about the broken promises from city leaders about Black youth having safe places to go during the summer. They also want to talk about the curfew. I am trying to talk them out of this. The Plaza is a social problem that Kansas City deserves. After years of not serving Black youth with safe social activities now the White power structure wants them to stay away from where they have fun. This is a perfect storm for chaos."
TKC Note . . . As long as it's before 9 in the PM: The Free Speech of local teens is protected. But they'll have to speak up to be heard over the street performers, the guy with the bagpipes and a more than a few cackling 40-something ladies who have had too much wine.

This holding the city hostage/ veiled threat angle he is trying to work shows that he lacks any maturity whatsoever. 3. White power structure? Like who, they mayor? The police chief? Those two are the very people who implemented the curfew despite relevant research that shows it's ineffectiveness!
4. As a logical person, I don't go hang out at places where I have no intention on spending money. A list of these places include bars, coffee shops and the plaza. In places such as these, people are welcome to spend as much time as they want hanging out provided that they purchase a good or service in exchange. I thought it was common knowledge that to do otherwise is rude at best.
Young urban youth (of any damn race!) have no business occupying public places such as these unsupervised at all hours of the night if they don't have any intention of patronizing the businesses. This is at least a symptom of poor parenting.
When will the discussion concerning responsibility and accountability super cede race baiting?
I think it's highly likely Alonzo just makes all this shit up just for self promotion. He never has facts and real people to back his his up. Just your basic garden variety scam artist trying to "be somebody".

At some point I guess the city can tell the business owners on the Plaza, that until ordo ad chao is restored, they will have to shut down.
Lets not forget, that last summer, the duly elected black mayor of our city, took evasive action and dove into the bushes in front of the Cheesecake Factory during a gun fight where people took rounds and there were casualties.

ReplyDeleteI took my two young children to barnes and noble on the plaza, at about noon, and we were subjected to a black man, with his tattooed girlfriend, accompanying him, grabbing his penis IN FRONT of us. His pants were halfway down his legs. I couldn't explain to my children why he was walking, holding his genital region while he walked. The most disgusting thing I've seen on the plaza.

ReplyDeleteThe Inner Harbor in Baltimore used to be a great place, as Chuck said, and is now not the place you'd want to take the family. It's also very heavily subsidized by the city and is run by the CORDISH operation.
And when we list all the cowards who are reguarly shaken down by Gwen Grant and the gang, don't leave out the business community, who buys lots of tables for the annual dinner and funds the very disruptive and selfish behavior that has caused so many of the problems in the KCPS and the east side. Buying protection from folks like this and then making believe you're making a contribution through the Chamber's Urban Core Initiative is hypocrisy at its worst!
