TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! WEAK KANSAS CITY COUNCIL WORKS MOSTLY ON USELESS AND PR DRIVEN LOCAL LEGISLATION!!!

Let's look at the accomplishments of Kansas City's Council as of late . . .

- The Council is consumed by helping the Mayor's office outmaneuver Councilman Sharp when it comes to Scott Wagner's controversial, lame and PR driven daytime curfew.

- A DESPICABLE SPECIAL TAXING DISTRICT FOR THE DOWNTOWN TOY TRAIN IS THE WORST TOURIST TRAP IDEA FROM THE CITY COUNCIL SINCE P&L DISTRICT THAT HAS BEEN DAMAGING THIS TOWN'S BUDGET FOR YEARS!!!

- And let's not forget a silly sign ordinance that earned a lot of publicity but is mostly unnoticed by the locals . . .

Objectively, Kansas City's Council is nothing more than a bunch of bowling partners for Mayor Sly.

Recently, a KANSAS CITY INSIDER evaluated the current Council during a conversation with TKC:

"This Council is the worst we've ever had in recent memory and almost completely devoid of any original ideas," The Insider noted. "They're working on these 'feel-good' ordinances and ignoring more important stuff like working for a compromise on public safety or addressing the murder rate."

More . . .

"The Mayor is selling Council Members on the idea that these do-nothing ordinances will help their career but it NEVER works out that way."

And a bit of a look at the future . .

"I can tell you right now that all of these Council people will be facing a challenge on public safety when election time comes around and frivolous ordinances like what they've passed recently won't help to keep them in office."

For the record, this Kansas City Insider has A LOT of experience in elected office and has helped shape the local political scene . . . And while Kansas City Council Members my not want to hear the veteran advice . . . It's clear that voters from across Kansas City aren't seeing much leadership on any important topic from an exceptionally weak Council.

DEVELOPING . . .

  1. I have lived in many cities in my 30+ years on this planet. I have never seen a city with so much to offer, but so little opportunity to make things happen. The city makes rules so it is almost impossible to start a business out of your home, and jobs are impossible to find unless you want to drive across state lines and work in corporate kansamerica. I am so sick of driving to Kansas just to work.

  2. Read Tony's post below.

If the City Council wants to address the murder rate, then they can arm themselves like the rest of us.

Other than that, the police, the mayor, the city council, no one is going to change the African American culture of violence.

    So forget the murder rate.

By the way, forget defending yourself UNLESS you are in your home.

Even with phone records, phone recordings, several witnesses, visible wounds, first person accounts, google maps with a time line and a claim of self defense, if you shoot a thug in the street in self defense, your going to jail.

So maybe the City Council, the Police and the Mayor should all stay home with their guns drawn, that will keep THEM out of jail and keep THEM from becoming a statistic, so maybe THAT is doing a little for diminishing the murder numbers.

  3. One way to ensure the violence never ends is to have really really really really really really shitty schools.

  4. The Streetcar proposal is far from a 'do nothing' ordinance. It is a huge project... for better or for worse.

Not one member of the Council stands out but Sharp its a sad commentary when your big ordinance is taking signs out of the right of way . Being a rubber stamp for the Mayor will cause them all problems .

  7. I hope they have a full time Bowling League to go to when they are all out of jobs.

  8. I am really surprized at Scott Taylor being a Rubber Stamp he is better than that.

  9. Er, uhm...I hate to be a wise ass but the next city elections for council and mayor are three years away. A lifetime politically.

  10. There's never been any accountability in KCMO government, either at the elected, appointed, or employee level. And there are no real performance standards, strategies, supervision, managment by walking around, or consequences for lack of results or even consistently poor performance.
Some folks do a great job because that's how they feel about themselves, but they're treated just like the duds doing nothing right next to them.
Instead of having a service organization that prides itself on providing excellent services to residents, the electeds "lead" the way with their self-importance, working with their friends and insiders, being cowed by the racial extrotionists, making believe that they have no responsiblities for the performance of city government, and introducing frivolous nonsense as they do almost every week.
And without any vision or strategy there are no priorities, so whoever yells the loundest, makes the most threats or promises, or has the best inside track gets the attention and the money.
    A city that works.
    Just not for you.

  11. Three years is not along time when you give the voters a screwing like they have. I dont think the fireman or the police will forget very soon

    ReplyDelete
  12. With enough signatures there could be recalls.

    ReplyDelete
  13. They are all clowns

    ReplyDelete
  14. Sly is leading them all down the path to destruction

    ReplyDelete
  15. I guess they think they can screw us and they think we will forget . NOT GOING TO FORGET

    ReplyDelete
  16. Both of the Scotts should be ashamed they have no record to go by except right of way signs

    ReplyDelete
  17. Kansas City is the hardest City to get Liquor license a building permit ,a repair permit to upgrade your house any of those causes so much red tape you give up . Why dont these great Councilmen fix that.

  18. Slydog gives the Council crumbs while he takes the cake.

  19. Yes, the current council is lame and a rubber stamp.

But must we hear, every single council term, from unnamed insiders how THIS is the "worst" council in memory? I remember folks saying this about every single council going back to the 1970s, whether it was true or not.

As far as I'm concerned, this council is nowhere near as bad as the last one. Have we forgotten the years of Deb Hermann, Sharon Sanders Brooks, and Mark Funkhouser so quickly?

And neither of them are so bad as the 1991-1995 Council. After all, THREE of that group's members WOUND UP IN JAIL.

This group may be lame and not-too-bright, and they're definitely about paying back their contributors and protecting elites, but none of them have (so far, as far as we know) taken clear-cut bribes!

  20. Good point but there term isnt over

  21. All of you should shut up about the Mayor and Council. When you gave them the E tax vote, it was all over for you.

Learn how the play the game, and not complaining.

  22. As a small business owner on Main Street, I can tell you there are a lot of people along Main Street who are fed up with Councilman Glover's hostility toward the community organization that provides where-the-rubber-hits-the-road services: Maincor.

    Grow up, Mr. Glover.

  23. Kay barnes, alvin brooks, terry riley, bonnie sue, chuck eddy, sandra "i live in lees summit" mcfadden weaver, john fairfield

    WORST COUNCIL EVER

This council is paying for all their developer handouts so kay could run for congress

  24. Sometimes, folks just don't know what the heck their talking about. Jermaine Reed is in with Alvin Brooks, John Miles, Urban Summit and all the unusual suspects. Wish crucifiction was still legal and accepted practice because I love to watch as their greedy hands are nailed to the cross. This is one of the worse... may not be the absolute worse but with all certainty, one of the worse Councils ever. And one of the most incompetent!!!! Who touts a political science degree and then knows absolutely nothing about protecting the interest of the people they serve (and there's clear, devastating examples at every turn), the good people are in trouble. Perhaps, the chief mirrors the tribe but that's no excuse for this group. I'm ashamed of Scott Wagner! What a real disappointment he turned out to be. Cindy Circo... didn't expect much. And Troy Schulte... the most reasonable out of the bunch and he's lined up with John Modest Miles! Un-f'ing-believable!

  25. Glover is one of the very worst. He is not even nice. Childish and vindictive, if you don't let him jabber on about his dumb ideas he will blackball you. What an asshole.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wagner moved to the no-vote Northeast to try to make a splash by showing up everywhere he could be seen, but he didn't accomplish anything. When his marketing strategy (and Henry Rizzo) told him to move north and he could run unopposed, Wagner ditched his "neighbors" in Northeast for an unopposed election to a puppet position as Henry's Boy.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 7:47 you are full of shit. Wagner moved to stay in the First District, which is the district he's settled in. Wagner's nobody's puppet, especially not Rizzo's.

Glover is a nasty piece of work who is a shitty lawyer and needs his council gig, especially after he blew his inheritance on running for mayor. Plus he smells really bad.
