TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! Kansas City Compliance Coordinator For The ADA Settlement Will Be Former Council Dude Russ Johnson Assistant Meg Conger

Here's a bit of important news in a long standing topic concerning Kansas City.

Remember that the City of KCMO recently entered into a settlement agreement over our town's failure to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Now . . . Coming in to compliance is a challenge that faces this town.

Recently, TKC TIPSTERS learned that City Council Dude Russ Johnson's assistant Meg Conger won the job for ADA Coordinator.

Formerly, Ms. Conger was a KC Parks & Rec Board Member. She's also an active Northland political mover and shaker.

This is an important gig so, when we heard about the job that was just created we contacted Councilman Johnson's office . . . Why? Because unlike most City Hall phone lines, like him or not, this Northland Councilman has one of the few offices that returns calls.

Ms. Conger didn't say much to confirm the job that she'll be starting around May 7th. However, she did offer this:

"There is a lot to be done. This is a great opportunity and I look forward to working with a really motivated group of people who are all focused on making Kansas City more accessible for all of our residents."

Ms. Conger was surprised that anybody cared about her new job but she's being way too humble. Given Mayor Sly's proposed infrastructure improvements and Kansas City's limited budget . . . This job is at the center of a great many upcoming developments for KC.

  1. Of course, KC had a ADA coordinator who had the respect of virtually everyone except Funky and Mrs Funky, someone who knew the job inside and out. So now this important position is a political reward that might end up costing us lots of tax money. Oh, hooray.

  2. A patronage job in City Hall no way . Must be a rumor. Not in SlyDog house

  3. Mayor Sly said where the white woman at?

  4. Prairie Village?

  5. What does it pay?

  6. 8:48, you're all wet. And misinformed. The new ADA coordinator is not going to cost the City tax dollars, they'll save them. I think its a good fit and a good pick. You might stoop to calling it patronage but the gal is qualified.

After an e-mail to Tony. He encouraged me to write this in his comment section,

Meg Conger has always been helpful and professional in my experience contacting her office. She has worked late into the evening houses helping my neighborhood address our issues. She will be an asset to the city in this new job.

  8. The other person is more qualified, but apparently didn't kiss the right asses.

  9. Wow, so a promotion went to a non-City employee- aids are contract. So, I personally know several city employees who were already qualified...hmmmmmmm. Guess it is hwo you know in old KCMO.

    ReplyDelete
  10. 5:21, just FYI, aides are in fact City employees, just a different classification. They get the same benefits and follow the same guidelines as other City employees. The primary difference between council aides and other employees is the aides have less job security.

So maybe the employees you know were qualified, but not as qualified as the employee who got the job. Did you see the applicants, interview them or read their resumes?

Also, some people consider council aides jobs to be plum jobs. Maybe this isn't a promotion; maybe it's a lateral move.

Just saying you're assuming a lot with little or no information.

  11. 5:08, sounds like your "friend" (or maybe it's really you) has some serious sour grapes over a well-qualified city employee who got a new position. Get over it.

  12. City does nothing for us disabled people and the mayor supports Mr. Silvey, who is hurting the state's visually impaired population.

  13. Don't give up yet, 6:56. Give Meg a chance. She's a good person and a hard worker.

    ReplyDelete
  14. So, where is the disabled parking for people at the federal courthouse? It's not her job, but it IS a huge problem.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh just really ****ing great the city can't comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
but they can waste soon to be millions on a toy train.

    ReplyDelete
  16. but at least the toy train will be ADA compliant.

  17. Meg is a competent, well qualified administrator. She knows the city and she knows how to get things done. This is one appointment that will benefit the city, and not just a little bit.

  19. 12:20, jealous much?

7:38 speaks the truth. I live in the 2nd District and our neighborhood and district have gotten to know Meg and the outstanding work she does. We'll miss her help in the Council office, but are equally certain she'll do a great job in the ADA position.
