A rather shocking headline from the KC Biz Journal as we come to the conclusion of Black History Month:
Black Kansas City residents earn about half their white counterparts, Census reports
And despite so many attempts to make this "One KC" (or whatever) . . . Precious few efforts to address income disparity offer jobs or job training. For the most part, Kansas City people of every demographic are too polite to talk about money and racial disparity despite its obvious influence over local life.
Check out white vs black high school and college graduation rates. That is where 90% of the disparity comes in.

ReplyDeleteIt's about education disparity. Start there. A comparison of resident vs. resident isn't accurate. There are all kinds of factors like inheritance and professional status to consider.

Don't the ones that like to sleep in the Water Department trucks get paid well? If you take into account actual hours doing any kind of labor other that warming a truck seat while studying the inside of their eyelids they are making way more than most people.

I now earn $98,000/year doing a job that I love, and that I went to college for.
I don't feel one bit of guilt. I earned it.

ReplyDeleteIf people of color earned half what people without color earn for the same work done just as well, employers would only hire people of color, and people without color would be forced to work for less.

ReplyDeleteLook at the facts,crime who is committing most of it ? Then look at the Mayors statements race is a word not a problem. Culture is the problem change the culture and you will change the people. Quite getting rich trying to live off race. People live the way they are raised if you are raised with give me free hand outs and finding out how to get a free hand out that is the way you will live. Change this and you will change the people. White,Black or Hispanic. The Mayor is a race grabber living on what he can get the Blacks to believe and what he can get out of it. Change the people and change the country. Quite looking at race and start looking at how people live. If we don't change this we will never our city or country.
