TKC BREAKING NEWS AND THE SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! MISSOURI STATE REP. BRANDON ELLINGTON EARNS AN OUTPOURING OF KANSAS CITY SUPPORT!!!

This afternoon at Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center there as outpouring of support for Missouri 41st District State Representative Brandon Ellington that was unprecedented.

AN ENTHUSIASTIC CROWD OF AT LEAST 400 TURNED OUT TO SHOW THEIR SUPPORT FOR BRANDON ELLINGTON!!!

I've followed local politics for awhile now and this much is clear to anybody with an understanding of the process . . . MISSOURI STATE REPS ALMOST NEVER DRAW THE KIND OF CROWD THAT SHOWED UP TO SUPPORT STATE REP. ELLINGTON TODAY!!!

The community center lot was filled to capacity . . . People filed in from across the street to attend the event.

In the auditorium it was standing room only for an inauguration event that included two marching groups.

Mr. Ellington was swamped with supporters but I managed to get a photo of him during a moment of reflection at the invocation of the event.

Leaders from across the spectrum of Kansas City showed up to support Mr. Ellington, I was really impressed with the remarks of Bruce Watkins Board Member Sonny Gibson for his remarks about a new generation of leadership in Kansas City.

Former Kansas City Council member Sharon Sanders Brooks was in the crowd and on the guest list in order to show support.

Rep. Kiki Curls formerly held the seat the Mr. Ellington is taking over, her recommendation was critical in earning a place for Mr. Ellington.

Here's a shot of Freedom Inc. leader and former Kansas City Council Member Carol Coe and her son Douglas speaking and congratulating State Rep. Ellington.

Carol Coe's remarks focused on the challenges of modern day parenting and a great deal of respect for State Rep. Ellington's family.

And for me, the best moment of the event was the crowd giving a standing ovation for Ms. E.

Anyone who knows State Rep. Ellington realizes the amazing confidence and support he draws from his faith and family and Ms. E. has been instrumental in helping her son and the community look to new leadership.

THIS WAS AN IMPORTANT MOMENT FOR MO STATE REP. ELLINGTON AND HIS CONSTITUENTS BECAUSE IT SHOWS A CRITICAL MASS SUPPORTING NEW LEADERSHIP THAT DOESN'T OWE ANY POLITICAL DEBTS TO THE OLD GUARD!!!

Rep. Ellington has been volunteering in his community and working tirelessly FOR YEARS in order to get a chance at political office. Achieving success was a product of reaching out and earning the respect of constituents and so many others who noticed his hard work.

It seemed to be the hope of everyone in the crowd that State Rep. Ellington represents a real departure from special interests and a focus on leaders who come from a background of community volunteering not just pure politics.

State Rep. Ellington has already accomplished a great deal with just a small group of supporters as he began his political journey. Remarks during the event seemed to hope that this larger group of constituents would help him accomplish even more . . .

And, this AMAZING KANSAS CITY EVENT, where mainstream media was not even present has inspired tonight's playlist . . .

As always, thank you for reading and have a safe and fun weekend.

  1. Nice event. Don't let the haters convince you otherwise.

  2. Ms. Ellington was thoughtful enough to send me an invitation, even though my support was nominal.

I wanted to do more than just talk about the violence problem here on TKC. So, I gave what modest support I could to this idealistic young man. Its nice to know that it was appreciated. I hope that he is just the vanguard of a new generation of leaders for the people of Kansas City.

  3. I have immense respect for Brandon, who I find to be a level-headed, thoughtful young man, despite the frequently outrageous and vitreolic attacks perpetrated by his mother on Facebook. Frankly, she scares me--and not in that shake-up-the-status-quo, good kind of way.

  8. Ellington has a real chance to have an impact on Jeff City and the community east of Troost. But he has to be sure that HE leads the old crew like Curls, Coe, and Sanders Brooks, and not the other way around. They've done way too much damage to the black community along with folks like Gwen Grant, Tindal, and the rest of the duds.
Time to move on and up.

I love reading her facebook status when she pinpoints the major issues concerning elected officials. I am waiting for her to drop the bomb on Airick West when she asks him where is the money that he set up for his money laundering fake business that he ran out of 1211 McGee. There was so many cars, people everywhere. I saw them in wheel chairs, walkers it was very moving to see how Brandon Ellington, has touched his community. We have waited for a very long time for his type of leadership, faith, and willingness to over over the good old boys & girls groups. I saw Craig Bland President of Freedom not looking to happy with the large turnout, I quess this blows his plan to have somone run against Brandon in the upcoming elections. This community is standing up as Carol Coe mentioned for this young man cause he is standing up for them.

Wonderful event, if you ask why was it history being made, then you are a lost cause. Brandon,we love you and make that call and we will be in JC. Thank you for thinking of the citizens here in Kcmo. To show the caliber of the kind of man you are you didn't have to a KCMO Swearing In for all of us to be able to come and take part of. The program was exciting & interesting, The young kids loved performing and being there. We need a couple more like you that cares about community. Even KIKI was surpised by the large turnout. God bless you and your family.

No seriously. Lost cause or not, I'm kind of like the other commenter that asked it as well. What history was made here? Saying we're a lost cause because we don't know translates to "I don't have a good answer for that." Seriously, please enlighten us.

  45. Okay to "Jerk Off" and everyone else that thinks I'm being a "hater"...

I have nothing against Brandon. I asked a simple question about historical significance and got a horrible answer. Also, to 5:49 (aka Jerk Off), my "Quaker ass" was making a comment in response to "5:21" aka "the person who stated history was made because a young BLACK MAN was elected to State Representative".

ps--still waiting on a relevant answer for the historical significance part. So far it seems no one has that information and would prefer to refer to me as a "Quaker ass" or a "hater".

And FYI, before we start drawing those lines in the sand, I am a college educated black man. I don't refer to myself as African-American because that only furthers the cultural divide in our society. When is everyone going to realize that?

I would suppose you are referring to me. As I said earlier, I have nothing against Brandon. Frankly, I hope he does well. The community could use some new leadership so long as he doesn't fall into the old ways of the usual grifters we hear about over and over. And how am I "hating" or posting "worthless comments"? I asked a simple question regarding historical significance (along with another commenter), and neither of us have been provided with a solid answer. I really thought that there was maybe something I had missed in the news about this kid that for whatever reason set him apart from the rest and subsequently "made history".

Judging by your defensiveness and resorts to name-calling, I must have been wrong. There's my answer I guess...

    ReplyDelete
  52. 10:56 P.M. Mr.Ellington, is not a "kid" he is a man. Mr.Ellington, has earned his respect and it a well known fact that you do know this cause like your worthless post you do know him or atleast you think you do. Be a man and post your real government given name.

    ReplyDelete
  53. 11:16--

When you're as old as me, everyone is a kid. Funny you should ask that I "be a man" and post my "government given name" under your anonymous tag.

Once again, no answers, just defensiveness. Your apparent undying support of this MAN would be more credible if you were able to easily post facts that support your beliefs.

Oddly enough, though I've posted nothing to discredit Brandon, you've chosen to go on the defensive. Brandon, it would do you much good to separate yourself from these types of folks if you wish to bring the community together in the future...

I am a white middle class man that resides in the northland and myself, neighbors, friends & associates voted for him, hands down Mr.Ellington won the northland during his recent city council run. It appears that you may be a member of the old drifters that has kept the minority community in bondage, we understand why you are trying so hard to discredit ,tarnish Mr.Ellington's latest accomplishments. Congradulations Honorable Brandon Ellington our newly sworn in State Representative . Everyone is still talking about Saturdays Swearing In event. I arrived at 1:45 pm the parking ,along with Swope Medical. I was excited to see so many people come to support you. I had to walk 4 blocks but it was worth it. Many of us have never witnessed a swearing in so it was history in the making for us common folks ;) the drill teams, they were proud to be there and I over heard several of them speak of having respect for you,the slideshow had many of us wiping our eyes, from the 1st speaker to the last they were all speaking from their hearts, all of the poets were excellent,Paseo Choir was also great but the young lady that sung I Believe sung from her heart. I loved this event and so did everyone cause when the MC asked us if we needed a break the audience shouted no let's keep it going. No one left the room,no walking around we were glued to our seats. The young men that were in the room no one in this city has ever drawn this type of crowd to a political event. No it just wasn't black people it was nationalites. It was a wonderful event, I can't say it enough. Thank you Brandon for thinking about your community . We did leave inspired. God bless you Brandon & your family.

Besides the occasional n-word comment that some idiot likes to toss out there, there hasn't been a single thing said on this comment thread to discredit Brandon. But yet the lot of you are quick to his defense. Seems like about four years ago, I remember another untested, unproven leader whom many showed an undying support for. Many voted for him because of "historical significance".

That didn't work out too well for us either. Highest debt ever seen combined with one of the highest unemployment rates ever. Now that's historical...

KCTV-TV 5 reports tonight that political gadfly and former Kansas City councilwomen Carol Coe has been arrested for outstanding parking tickets. While relatively minor on its own, the news is the only the latest in a string of troubles. In the 1990s Coe lost her legal license in Missouri because of campaign finance scandals – making her a poster girl for the many corruption scandals that brought down city and state elected officials in the 1990s.

Remember the good times with Sharon Sanders Brooks.
Sharon Sanders Brooks was the only incumbent council member to lose an election last night. Her 3rd District seat was won by Jermaine Reed.

Let's not forget the good times we had with Brooks, who in March 2009 waved around a bra and panties during a Planning and Zoning Committee meeting while feigning shock that women would actually wear them in public.

  77. The swearing in ceremony for Mr. Brandon Ellington as State Representative for the Kansas City Missouri 41st District was an historical occasion. There was an over flow crowd present. This is an open door for new leadership and I am so thankful for that. Brandon has spoken things about public safety, poverty, crime, and the causes of crime. He has spoken about the importance of taking care of the East side of Troost, or the criminal element would spread to the West side of Troost and beyond. He has spoken about the budget (s) and the amount of money that is wasted. He spoke that the budget should not be treated like there is a"bucket" of money sitting on a table and whoever wants to come and dip in can do so. Brandon spoke about the importance of accountability, and the need to treat people with respect and do things that are real for our children, families and elders. Brandon has pulled groups and individuals together, and we have formed a solid unit to work on the blight, set in place reading rooms, and family resource centers, along with community gardens and developing model blocks. Ms. E. will continue giving leadership to these projects as we continue to move forward to further enhance the work and vision that was put in place by Brandon as he went about doing community service. We no longer look to those who have perpetrated and used people. This is a new day, under real leadership, and with God's help we will grow as we continue doing the work that needs to be done, to bring back neighborhoods, and allow people to dream again, work again, and feel they are somebody. Because they are. Everybody is somebody, and I am so proud to be a member of Voices of the people, and the team. Thank you Ms. E. and Brandon for the strong stand you take on truth and doing the right thing at the right time for the right reason. Some may not care for us, and that's ok, because we are not here to please people, but to do what we are called to do. We have followed protocol and met with those who are in "charge". Nothing else for us to do now except to stop talking about it , and just do it. Bless you!

  78. Ms. Coe spoke from her heart and I was so happy she spoke. Ms. Coe has a lot to offer, and she is a very brilliant person. I hope we will get to work with her in the future along with ALL others who are about the real not the phoney. No whining, no complaining, no blaming, and pointing fingers. We are not about that. We are positive, motivated, knowledgeable, professional, and well able. No more talking and meeting just to be meeting. Been there and do not plan to go any more except to meet with one or two people that have had heavy calanders, and we've had to move our time around. But once that is done we're ready to do what we need to do to get done what needs doing. Stop the violence, stop the killing.

Ms.Ester, well written and received. Brandon support comes from strong people like yourself. Everyone knows that he carrys a strong dedicated following that shows up whenever he speaks in forums, canvessing, .Last Sat,spoke volume I spoke with someone counting heads and they said that over 800 folks entered the door and several cars gave up when the only parking left was sunfresh's parking lot.
I have two teenage sons 14 & 16 yrs, that I brought with me, they informed me that they met State Representative Brandon Ellington shooting hoops and he was keeping real, and he talked with them and everytime he seen them afterwards he would stop and check on them. When the 3 young boys stood and spoke about their lives since Brandon came into their lives, and when the oldest said thank you for helping me wanting to be a better person, tears rolled down several peoples faces, but when the youngest spoke up about how when he told Ms.E about how he was being left and how quickly she helped me solve his problems and gave him a position that he is very proud and works hard to keep and he thanked her but when te middle son spoke and thanked Brandon, for saving his brother's life and helping him wanting to change to live a better life. Priceless. Several men spoke on how they started taking their children with them because they saw Brandon twins with him all the time. So yes we are witnessing a changing off the guards.

Hello everyone I was the Tiger in Brandon's campaign. I also had the honor of being the first speaker of this beautiful event. What a joyful day Brandons swearing in was. The entire room was just busting with Happiness and Pride. I could just feel the Love & Respect everyone had for Brandon and his family. I had the honor of meeting Brandon at KKFI Radio Station while working on Jaws Of Justice. I told him then if he ever ran for office I would support him. As an Activist it's such an honor to see another Activist that takes his stand and then takes a seat. Brandon knows what it feels like to be the underdog and I am sure he will never forget it. My prayer for him is he will always keep an arms length away with his guard up always looking for the best interest for all. I also pray that when a vote becomes hard to make he will always do what's right, no matter what outside or inside forces have to say. Stand Tall Brandon As You Always Have!!! 81. Representative Ellington has been in community service many years. Yes he is a young man, that is wise far beyond his physical birth years. Quiet spirited, with a heart for service and a mind to work. Humble, yet strong and determined to do the right thing. Humble yet strong enough to recognize he has to give all "Praise to God". Not wearing his authority like it's a badge of pride, but walking in his calling in a quiet, disciplined way. The mark of a true leader is knowing how to follow. Follow the truth wherever it leads and being willing to deal in a positive way with the facts of that truth. I have known the Ellington family for 50+ years. Brandon comes from strong people. His mother has a heart to stand on principle even if everybody around her is saying something different. Ms. E does not change her mind or her position just because people don't agree with her. That too is the mark of a good leader. If you're going to war you want to know your commanding officer has his/her facts straight and won't get into the middle of a hot battle and change his/her mind, with no back up strategy or battle plan. I may not always agree with some of the people I have followed into battle, but I had enough professional respect and God give mother wit to know how to trust them. It saved my life and helped me to grow into the woman I am today. If all of you who support Brandon and Ms. E. will get out there and support the vision by getting people to run for public office to serve the people, and becoming a part of the community meetings to involve the youth and families, in political classes, learning how to discipline themselves by becomining a part of sometning much bigger than themselves, learning to love themselves, their God and each other, learning how to stand up for truth without compromise, and being willing to say they are proud to be a part of this revolution. Change is possible, yes change has begun. The only decision any of you need to make, is are you going to be an active participant or will you remain on the sidelines and watch the change happen hoping for crumbs from the table? You are too important to the human race to just be a spectator. Get in the fight!!!

No, that could also be considered ignorance and close-mindedness...

And please don't try to compare yourself to a military figure going into battle (commanding officer). That's an insult to the men and women who actually serve in our armed forces.
