THE LAST MINUTE COMPLAINTS OF AN ANGRY MOB OF WHITE PEOPLE FROM WALDO/BROOKSIDE DIDN'T REALLY MAKE MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE IN THE WAY THAT NEW KANSAS CITY COUNCIL DISTRICTS HAVE TAKEN SHAPE!!!
The map recommended by the Redistricting Committee i.e. Steve Glorioso and John Fairfield et. al., passed just now.
What have we learned?
Well . . . This fight was over before it started . . .
Staying involved in KC politics is much better than showing up at the last minute . . .
The Vote was 11-1 with only Councilman Sharp objecting . . .
Unrelated . . .
It really was a shame to see so many white people come out and try to take away the voting rights of minorities in Kansas City.
We hear that Mayor Sly's outburst was kind of epic during the discussion!!! He basically said it didn't really matter.
So, until the next census . . . Kansas City is going to look like this when it comes to voting.
Outcomes:
4th District Now Crosses The River into the Northland. A very smart TKC TIPSTER says this could be a chance to "change the culture" of the Midtown classically liberal and Democrat section of KC.
South KC reaches further into 4th . . . They claim they'll lose influence to the Ward Parkway Crowd . . . But c'mon, did they have much influence anyway?!?!?
Best of all . . .
AFRICAN-AMERICAN VOTES IN THE 3RD DISTRICT ARE NOW PROTECTED UNTIL THE NEXT CENSUS!!!

ReplyDeleteThere is no possible map that would result in the election of even one decent council person. Maybe we need smaller districts.

ReplyDeleteTook about 6 months for the Mayor to witness the Sharp crap we have come to expect in the current and future 6th District. Sharp is a bully and he would burn the City down over racial divisions if it benefited him.
ReplyDeleteThe voters in the 3rd Dostrict aren't at all protected from the folks they should be the most afraid of and who they have been taken advantage of for decades: people like Clinton Adams, Gwen Grant, the revs, and all the rest of the grifters who've made good livings through intimidation and extortion.

ReplyDeleteI feel badly for Waldo and Brookside. Sharp cares nothing about any of the sixth west of 71 highway. There's no way he's going to have any interest in Waldo and Brookside.

ReplyDelete@8:49, Sharp can't run in the next election, so the worst he can do is anoint a successor (probably some loser like Bonnaye Mims, Jason Holsman, or Michael Brown). After leaving the City Council, Sharp will be working his connections that he has been serving while on the council (commercial interests over neighborhood interests), possibly in a paid position to lobby the city for taxpayer giveaways (TIF, CID) and to coordinate "leveraged" funding of trophy projects to line the pockets of developers, contractors, consultants, and other City Hall apparatchiks (projects which invariably degrade quality of life for people who live nearby).

ReplyDeleteSharp should be done. The Mayor should not allow someone who has created so much division to be chairperson of a committee. John Sharp has proven he doesn't put Kansas City ahead of his on personal interests.

ReplyDeleteEven Scott Taylor abandoned John Sharp on this issue, continuing the icy relationship in the Sixth between the in-district and the at-large council members that started when Taylor's wife held the at-large seat.
