TKC EXCLUSIVE& BREAKING NEWS!!! FORMER KANSAS CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE CAUSES FACEBOOK CONTROVERSY WITH A "COP KILLING" QUOTE!!!
Let's start this off with a bit of good news . . . A few people might not know that Kansas City Queen of Talk Radio Darla Jaye has a "MAXED OUT" Facebook account which is more active than most national news sites . . . It's just another example of her DEVOTED local following.
Now . . . Let's talk about the controversy . . .
Did you know that 5th District At-Large Write-In Candidate Mahlon Davis Jr. earned more votes than ANY OTHER WRITE-IN last election . . . At least any other write-in during the modern era.
Mr. Davis was also a prominent opponent arguing against the Kansas City E-Tax. Politically, he is one of the strongest minority Conservative voices in Kansas City Proper.
But a statement about cops being killed has him in hot water with other die-hard Conservatives . . . Check it:
Looking over the argument, the offending line seems to be:
"Why are people more sad when cops get killed by somebody, when cops kill innocent people every day and nobody says anything . . . And again a cop getting killed to me is a sign of the times and where this country is headed where people do not respect authority anymore."
The argument continues and Mr. Davis DOES NOT advocate the killing of ANYBODY but simply points out his perception of disparity while noting his argument is not based on race and applies to poor whites as well. Mr. Davis writes:
"Again it is sad when anybody innocent gets killed but cops have gotting away with MURDER scott free and nobody says anything."
Mr. Davis even cites an example in his argument and notes a recent New York Club Shooting of an innocent man on the day of his wedding.
Regarding the quote, in rebuttal a TKC TIPSTER writes:
"The guy makes me sick simply for the fact he was in the running for city council and would have had somewhat of an influence over the police department, but has a clear disdain for cops. Maybe I am being too sensitive on this but for fuck's sake....."
From my perspective, what I find interesting is that from both Conservative and Liberal viewpoints there is a problem of perception against police officers on Kansas City's Eastside and Southeast Side . . . Like it or not, that is an important problem to address as the KCPD attempts to forge community cooperation as the only viable method to stop so much local, violent crime.

It was a reasonably good question... to ask why we make such a big deal when public servants get killed versus 'ordinary' citizens.
ReplyDeleteTo say cops kill innocents all the time... well that was unfortunate that he said that for it took the focus away from his real point.
But we've all heard that police are quick to exonerate officers if they remotely follow police procedure. We also know that instead of shooting to kill crazies, there are less fatal ways to get control of them. Wing them, use non fatal means. Get a negotiator. Police don't have much patience for that.
IF theyre any good with their weapons, they should be able to wing a guy with a knife and if that doesn't work THEN go for the heart shot. But cops have a policy that apparently means if your'e going to shoot, shoot to kill.
I think we who pay the bills probably think they're a bit too military for the community standard.
And as to crying more tears for dead cops as opposed to dead public works workers, well, thats a legit question. Police and fire put themselves on pedastals because its good PR to do so. And they bring out all the flags and white gloves and make quite a spectacle...one you don't see when a turd herder dies in a trench cavein--also serving the public.

ReplyDeleteI am conservative. Very much so. I also tend to want to understand what people MEAN not so much what they SAY. Statements can be misstatements, unintentional, toungue-tied, or simply vague. Sometimes the words distract from that a person means and is trying to say.
ReplyDeleteI think I understand that the guy means. Innocents are killed in fast police car chases. And innocents (actors or even bystanders) are sometimes killed in police shooting incidents. These are facts.
And most of us hold police, fire, rescue, military people in very high regard because they are generally "the good guys" and because they risk their lives - to some extent - every minute they are on duty.
So with a little thought and effort, I get what he's saying. the death of a truly innocent victim usually usually does not get the same fanfare and community "love" as the death of a policeman.
If this analysis is correct, then he did a poor job putting his thoughts in writing.
