Local Waiter Serves Up The Secret Ingredient In Kansas City’s Most Successful Restaurants

Kansas City, Missouri, June 21st, 2011- Restaurant guests often leave praising the incredible meals, but complaining about the lackluster service that accompanied them. One local waiter is presenting a solution to this problem.

Kansas City has a reputation as an incubator for great restaurants. From James Beard Award-winning chefs to bartenders on the cutting edge of cocktail innovation, Kansas City is recognized for its exceptional restaurant scene. In this competitive environment many restaurants struggle to keep their guests satisfied and returning- those that succeed know that exceptional food and beverages alone will not keep their guests coming back. The most successful restaurants are committed to ensuring that the service provided in their dining rooms is just as excellent as their other offerings.

The economic downturn forced restaurants to make some difficult choices. Their guests were seeking greater value for their entertainment and dining dollars. To provide this value, many restaurants were forced to cut back significantly on the amount of training they provided to their staff. This has resulted in servers who were not adequately trained on how to provide guests with the level of service they had grown to expect. The outcome has been a growing dissatisfaction among restaurant guests that is magnified by social networking and restaurant review sites. As this trend progresses, even top-tier local restaurants are finding it difficult to hire servers with the skills and knowledge necessary to maintain their standards.

Recognizing the critical impact this can have on a guest’s dining experience and the survival of restaurants, a local waiter has developed a solution. David Hayden wrote his first book, Tips2: Tips For Improving Your Tips, to help servers learn the skills they need and restaurants gain the tools to affordably train their staff. The book is based on Hayden’s sixteen years of hospitality experience at some of the city’s most successful restaurants. He takes the techniques used by exceptional servers and explains them in a way that can be applied by servers of any experience level at any type of restaurant. With this book, he hopes to raise the level of service to match the quality of the cuisine offered by the city’s finest restaurants.

  2. Like the mainstream media, Tony must have tired of covering East side murders.

But covering a book release by a waiter who's target audience is other waiters? Really Tony?

If you were going to go THAT lame you could have just posted another story on local power player Terry Riley.

  4. Tony overwrites most of his blog posts, including that one. If its longer than a page, I skip it all, whether he changes colors or not.

he's taught me to write fewer lines and cut out the personal bullshit.
