NO LUCK OF THE IRISH AMID KANSAS CITY P&L DISTRICT FAIL!!!

This impending FAIL for a corner venue @ The P&L District is another sign that the whole place is a PERMANENT LOSER!!!

At Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant in the Power & Light District . . . Its landlord filed suit earlier this month, saying it owes $608,856 in back rent and other charges and is now in breach of its lease.

Riddle me this . . .

THEY CLAIM THE SPRINT CENTER IS THE #1 CONCERT VENUE IN THE NATION, YET A BAR & RESTAURANT RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET CAN'T MAKE IT WORK?!?!?!

If Ragland Road is a FAIL then all of the P&L District is doomed . . . They have the best location that KC spend hundreds of millions to set up, yet they can't pay the bills.

So much Kansas City's Downtown Renaissance that won't even support a heavily subsidized Irish bar.

  1. glad you're so happy about all the struggles in this town, tony. why don't you enlighten us and tell us what city out there is really doing an outstanding job and that you would rather live? better yet, why don't you move there? you call everyone out for being a d-bag and you are the biggest d-bag I can think of in this city. natch.

  2. The bar owner ever consider Sprint Center has bars, Quick Trips, and other things that might dip into his potential sales?

  3. That's why we should have built a baseball stadium. A much better downtown anchor that would have brought residents and not just visitors.

  4. He should change his concept. Rename it Everyones Favorite Post Show Stop or something. Get rid of the irish theme that there probably did most of the damage.

But I thought they had real Irish folks running the place.
That kind of authenticity was gonna bring them rubes in droves.

  6. Prolly if they made it NASCAR themed and had tattooed skaag waitresses in bikinis it'd be in the black today.

  7. 5:24 PM-Dallas is doing very well.

Lots of Mexicans there too. Lots!

I don't know if Tony would like it there, but I'm sure considering it.

  8. Sorry, @ 5:24 - good suggestion, but I still like KC, failures and all. I think we're gonna be OK. KC proud!

  9. spyke is right. Dallas is doing their rehab much better than KC.

    This news sucks.

  10. @6:08pm - It does suck. That's what we get for letting Cordish come in to renovate our Downtown. It should have been local people, not greedy out of towners leading the way.

  14. I live 4 blocks away. Hubby and I went down after they opened and ordered 2 fish and chips and 2 heinekens without viewing menu. 2 more heinekens and we had a $70 tab. that's why they closed. We eat at bristol regularly but are not going to pay lobster prices for fried fish.

  15. Tony, Greg Hall think syou're wrong. He says P&L is Jumpin' for the sake of Jumpin'.

  16. Terrible 'JAZZ' there the other night. Won't go back.
IT'D BE OK IF IT WAS AUTHENTIC.

  17. I thought Pat "I turned my back on the Bishop" O'Neill promoted this place?

  18. Fuck you Jeff Roe. Tell the bishop that you are rich enough already.

  19. Cordish. Owned and operated venues are succeeding and subsidized by KC tax dollars. Venues not owned by Cordish are failing. I would not spend one dime in the P & L district.

  20. Bice Bistro, Famous Daves, Ted Montana, Peachtree, Chef Burger, Savvy etc... The businesses in the Power and Light District are falling like flies.

Shame on Kansas City elected officials.

  21. The Willises should find this article interesting.A restaurant in a prime location directly across from the Sprint Center was charged basically the same rent as the local owned Peachtree. Located upstairs at a disadvantage with 50 per cent less space.

Cordish and the City of Kansas City are Predatory Leassors.

  23. What a great opportunity for Sly James and the new City Council to clean up the Power and Light District.

I forgot Cordish, controls the administration by contributing large campaign donations to KC City Council.

  24. Tramp stamps and tap out t-shirts...really thats why most people dont go there. It is a trash magnet on friday and sat nite.

  25. only an idiot looking for trouble would go there its a crime and criminal draw.

  26. Mayor James in south Kansas City defended Mayor Barnes and her Power & Light District. He dismissed and activist who questioned him at a public meeting about the use of general revenues to pay for the bonds on the P&L district. Sly was nervious during his response and got real defensive. But hard to denie that the P&L is costing over 15 million a year of general tax monies, just to pay the private investors. Failed policy hardly equates to the Mayors reference to a failed camping trip he took

  27. 1:51 I feel bad for Ragland Road I know from experience that Cordish inflates tenants invoices with excessive other charges.

  28. I don't expect much from Sly James I view him as business as usual.
