Like it or not, anti-crime Activist Alonzo Washington is a Kansas City media resource and one of the most well connected and informed members of the community working to fight crime.
Read his latest post on Plaza Flash Mob Rioting and this dangerous Summer season. Here's the money quote:
"This is a very dangerous time in our city. City leaders have done nothing to deal with the problem. All they care about is keeping the Plaza safe. If these kids don't get a safe place to go a mini-riot is going to break out somewhere in the city. I know some of the players and they like that the press is hyping their event from last year. Gang sets live for this type of hype . . . In all of my meetings it looks like carnage is on the way because the press & city leaders are doing all of the wrong things to deal with this matter."
What's important here is that Mr. Washington isn't afraid to address the problem directly while so many politicos run for cover amid discussions of local activities, civic responsibility, loitering alternatives and ongoing Kansas City FAIL when it comes to making streets safe for everyone.
Alonzo is a good commuity advocate.

ReplyDeleteActually, there are a lot of SAFE places to go: the parks, atheletic fields, libraries, shopping areas, and, after 10:30pm, HOME.
ReplyDeleteThere are also some summer jobs for those young people who have worked hard in school and bring something to the game, and all sorts of churches and not-for-profit organizations who will certainly welcome the extra help.
So the parents can sit down with their children and discuss all the options, help them select what's most appropriate for them, and help the kids get through the summer.
If the little minority of thugs and thuggish wannabees want to try to make their own rule, the neighborhoods and th ecops will get involved and the result will likely be both unpleasant and expensive.
Maybe Alonzo can post some contact information so that some of these kids can intern for him for the summer.

Then, the very same thugs and parents of same, will shift responsibility to "Society", with red herrings, non sequiters, and the standard bullshit we all hear every summer.

The idea of these kids going to the Library is laughed at, by not only folks like me, but the very folks who are complaining about Rec Centers and "Places for youths to hang out".
We all know gaddamn good and well, NONE of these pukes are going to the Library, or cutting the lawn, or in ANY way attempting to do something productive.
After these stupid shitheels are arrested, they should be forced into the military. I know many of them will fail, but even the ones that fail, will learn some modicum of structure and social skills.
The military, the structure would at least give America the ability to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Its less expensive than putting them all in jail and offers the only real hope imo.

In his meetings, are these with those who claim to riot soon? If so, why isn't he offering them solutions and giving recommendations on where these gang bangers can go, instead of rioting the plaza? Alonzo, keep up your efforts, most Black Leaders, or people in position are not doing what they should do to address the problem, they are take opportunities at self-promotion and staying on the safeside of the issues. I don't agree with alot of the caving in to repeated(25years) band-aid solutions. Black Leadership has been gutless in addressing problems(poverty/jobs and disipline). That helps explain things a bit.
If young people are creating a disturbance, then they should be arrested by the police, fined and/or jailed. If they have no money to pay a fine, then the amount they owe can be paid by community service. There are plenty of streets to clean, parks to clean, garbage to be picked up, vacant lots to be cleaned and mowed. That will give juvenile delinquents something to do during the summer. Their parents should be given the same community service sentence if their children under 18 are arrested for taking part in public disturbances. This takes little inventiveness to solve, only balls.

It didn't make any sense to me either but there would be a lot of white folk to disturb and disrupt. Anyone else heard this?
